Solid

I have RRS monopod head on this baby and it's great. Love it. I waited so long to get a monopod ... so expensive, I thought, but I'm glad I got this one even though it was more than $

A great find!!

This mono-pod costs more than others, and is worth every extra penny, nickel and dime!!! Light, sturdy, very easy to adjust, and durable.

LOVE IT, but

I travel extensively, that means I go to other parts of the world. For some reason I will also get asked what this tube like metal thing is that I carry around. I find it much easier to explain a TRIPOD, which has 3 legs instead of something that looks like a police-club. Tripods are always easy to go through Airport securities because they have the standard look. Monopods not so much. This is just my experience. In spite of all this, this is one of the best monopods out there, so just be ready to explain.

Versatile, Lightweight and functional!

I use the Gitzo monopod to shoot High School sports (specifically football). It is lightweight, very portable and easy to adjust.

Awesome / Super-Lightweight and STRONG!

I have been a monopod hater, until I started to go into crowded environments, and using the HEAVIER high end zooms on my DSLR (Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 II). I love the zoo and you need to be portable and compact. This IS the unit. I matched it with manfrotto Heads, because I already have a BUNCH of those on tripods. All these items work fantastic together.

Sturdy & portable!

This is a very sturdy, reasonably compact monopod which suits full size DSLR's with large glass. I bought it to use with my nikon D600 (with battery grip) and the 300mm F4 with 1.4 Teleconverter - mostly for sports and nature shots.... you could easily use this monopod with a 400mm 2.8 or even 500 2.8... the one thing I caution is that if you are not a large person, or not intending to use largish glass, this may be too much of a monopod for you... I"m a tall large guy and my hands 'just' manage to fully hold the monopod grip properly... its large, the pictures on the site make it look deceptively small for what it is ... it does fold reasonably small, but its not a small monopod because of its width... for example, my travel tripod is a Rollei 6x carbon fiber tripod... and its a bout the same width with 3 legs!! (albeit a little taller) than the Gitzo monopod! I'm pretty sure I will not need to buy a monopod ever again ... I use it with a Arca Swiss Z1 (SKU: AWMBZ1SPF) ballhead for easy on/off - but a ballhead is not really required for monopods... Its a great combo which I'm sure will serve me for years to come... one thing I swear by is that buy the best you can afford for your needs and it will serve and last you well ... buy cheap and you have to buy two or three times...

Best Monopod Ever Owned

Should've bought this monopod sooner, much better support than my previous one. Use this paired with my 5d mark iii and 70-200 2.8 IS most of the time. Folds in compact and very lightweight for travel.

What a monopod

Planning a trip to Hawaii and I need to pack light so I bought the Gitzo 5561 and I'm glad I did. Lightweight quick to open and easy to pack. I know it is pricey but it will last me a life time.
