Questions & Answers

Shopper : Is the canon t5i brand new?RAY P : Nope: there's a T6i and even a t7i; they even came out with a T6s, which is sort of a high falutin T6i with 70D flavoring. Ah, but the T5i is a fine body, with a lot of improvements over previous models; my favorite improvement is the touch-screen focusing in video. If you buy any T model, be sure it is the i rendition, e.g., not the plain T5. And there is one more thing: the 6i and 7i are both 24 megapixel resolution; whereas the 5i is 18--that's a 33% improvement over previous models, so if you plan to go big on prints, the spend the extra bucks on a 6i. A good, used 70 D--a really nice body--is 20 mpx, and an amazing batch of new stuff. Bottom line: The Canon T5i is a very good body; no they're not new.HEIDI K : I purchased mine in 2013
DelRae B : which one? T5i or T6i I will not use the wi-fi I just want to take pictures of sports indoor and outside WOW WHICH ONE HELP ME ???PHILIP H B : I photograph my grandson in tennis with the t5i, use the ISO up and down where the lighting changes you must experiment a lot shot every thing change with the lighting. in doors you have to change everything with the type of ambulant light in building like florescent and mercury vapor. Just shoot and try. In side 800 to 1200 iso, out door you have to play with it all.JAMES F : either oneGABOR B : DelRae, If you can get a better price for the T5i, than just go for it. For picture taking there's no huge differences between the two. Also the lens choice is important, depending on what kind of pictures are you planning to do.RAY P : T5i is 18 mp; the T6i is 24. The T6i has improved autofocus. That should be enough to sway you. But let me throw a wrench into the works: Adorama has an E+ T3i for sale right now; If you have lenses, then I'd buy that and save for a new or used 70D, an amazing body. So much for clearing things up, right? Well, you asked!MAHESHWAR G : As I know, most of the feature remain same, T5i is 18 MP while T6i is 24 MP. But, if there is not much price difference, recommended to go to T6i.
shayla m : does this canon t5i have wireless so you can upload photos to iPhone?ANDREW R : The T5i does NOT have built-in WiFi.

My thoughts on the camera in general.

I love my T5i & the lens. I just need/want to get out and use it more to learn how to take advantage of all it's features. I already had a T3 and enjoy it but having the T5i it has become my backup/second camera and the T5i is my primary. Great camera & lens and at an amazing price!!!

Canon T5i

I have always loved Canon cameras for their quality and the lenses. I used Canon Ti series in film school and bought the T5i to use professionally. I own 2 of them.

My Favorite Rebel

There's something about the T5i that makes photography fun. 18mp sensor, 9 cross-type focus points, 5 fps, and an AF that's as good as any I've used. The extra lens reach I get with the T5i over my 6D makes it perfect for photographing Florida Keys wildlife.

Professional in Training

If you are starting out to be a professional or learn about photography the "Rebel" is the perfect camera to start out with. Then years later, upgrade to the "Mark" series. I'm not going to lecture you of why. It's just like the same reasons you don't marry the first person you like or kiss.

Great camera to learn on

I teach photography at the high school level and this camera has been great for my students. It is so flexible that the beginners can start on day one and be able to get some nice shots, but it also allows those that have more experience to shoot amazing pictures in manual mode and come up with some very creative and more complex images.

Great experience

I had a t3i before this but wanted that silent focus on the fly by touchscreen for video and this camera does that really well. The stm kit lens are so quiet .18-55 is lens was a great range to start with. I am told that they use magnets instead of gears but what ever it is ... Its Quiet. I do mostly wildlife but I have been learning about the wireless flash features it can be lots of fun and also very usefull in getting some shots where just 1 flash will not do.(dont flash the animals) The onboard mic works good when you are indoors and can bounce the sound around , The mic jack can come in handy with an external mic outside where dealing with wind and stuff.

What is the microphone jack size for this?

My friend and I use this camera for making youtube videos and the sound quality isn't the best so we would like to buy a microphone for it. However, the jack size isn't the standard 3.5 mm. Any help would be great!

Great camera!

This camera is just what I needed as a beginner photographer. It is easy to use, lightweight, and has amazing auto focus. After a long day it begins to say busy a lot, which is why I rated it at four stars. For its price, it is a great beginners camera, and maybe some pro.

A Great Source of Frustration

I have had many problems with this product. I will write an extensive review when I am certain the poor photographs I produce with this camera are a result of the camera and or myself. In the mean time, I would recommend moving up a grade rather than buying this camera. I think having the GPS is worth having and this model does not have it.

Good Camera

I bought this camera about one year ago. Great for making vlogs, taking video and photos of family, and making short films. Helped me on some projects as well. Some things that where an issue is the audio on the camera, it is kind off bad. I also had some lagging on the touchscreen. However, I do believe on a slim margin that some phones are still better than this camera. I think it is still a waste of money, and a waste of time to research this camera.

Fantastic all around camera

I bought my T5i about a month ago and so far I have been nothing but satisfied, I have had no problems with this camera at all. At first I was thinking about getting a second battery just for backup but the one included in the kit lasts quite a long time. I can take the camera out for a whole day of shooting and still have over half battery life still. The flip-out screen has come in handy on multiple occasions for low or high angle shots, and the fact that it is touch screen is even more of a bonus. The only downside I have noticed about this camera is the slow auto focus, when capturing photos the auto focus may take longer than it would take to just manually focus it on your own.

About Canon T5i

FEATURED REVIEWS

Cannon is my camera of choice!

By Kim

I have had my camera for 2 years now and love it! It's easy to use. My grandson who is 6 can even take great pics with this camera.

Totally in love with T5i & 18-135 STM

By Shaun I.

The 18-135 STM and the T5i make a very compelling combo. The results I'm getting are exactly what I've always hoped for in an SLR. The focusing is fast and deadly accurate. The images are sharp and vibrant. Colors are simply amazing. The image stabilization really works and does make a huge difference is difficult conditions. Add to all this, the amazing touch screen, fast and accurate live view, and great video capabilities. How can you go wrong with this combo?

CANON EOS T5I DSLR CAM W/18-55 STM LENS

If you’re the kind of person who orders a sandwich with “everything on it,” it stands to reason that you’ll want a camera capable of doing a little bit of everything, too. But the CANON EOS T5I DSLR CAM W/18-55 STM LENS offers a little more satisfaction than does your lunch: it offers years and years of photographic brilliance.

Product Highlights

  • Serious processing ensures that you capture brilliant shots every time. That’s thanks to the 18MP CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 image processor, which help produce the brilliant and crisp shots you’re constantly striving to achieve.
  • Full HD 1080p video at 30 and 24 fps allows you to take on just about any live event with the fervor of a legitimate cinematographer—or you can sit back and let the Canon Rebel t5i do all the work.
  • The viewfinding is premier here, thanks to the 3.0” Clear View II Vari-angle Touschscreen LCD. The 1,040k-dot resolution gives you the composition and predictability you need from an accurate viewfinder.

Can you find cameras more expensive than the Canon Rebel t5i? Certainly. But the real question is: why would you ever want to?

Learn about the CANON EOS T5I DSLR CAM W/18-55 STM LENS

“Affordable” isn’t usually this good. But few cameras are able to achieve the versatility, focusing power, and technical specs of the CANON EOS T5I DSLR CAM W/18-55 STM LENS—all while wrapping it up in a single photography system that even amateur photography enthusiasts can afford. Luckily, Canon did that for you in this case, offering the kinds of variables that make a camera versatile—and offering each of these variables at such a quality that you might not find yourself wanting to buy a new camera in, oh, ever.

But what are these variables of which we here at Adorama so enthusiastically speak? Let’s list them all one-by-one so you get a better idea of why the Canon Rebel t5i is such a boost to the toolbox of photography enthusiasts and professional photographers alike:

  • Image processing and sensing. It all starts here, after all, and the Canon Rebel t5i delivers where it counts. Featuring an 18MP CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 5-image processor, this camera has the power and speed to handle just about anything you want to throw at it—provided you aren’t literally throwing things at your camera, of course. From live events and sporting to low-lighting events like wedding receptions, this Canon-t5i can handle it all with the processing and speed to provide every image with the sharpness and crispness it deserves.
  • 14-bit Analog/Digital conversion and an ISO range from 100-12800 (expendable to 25600) don’t hurt, either. The Multi Shot Noise reduction allows you to handle both bright and low-light situations, giving you the versatility to take the Canon Rebel t5i with you no matter what the gig may be. And even if you don’t have an official “gig,” you can always bust out your Canon Rebel t5i for memorable pictures at parties, social events, concerts and more. That’s what the capability of handling both bright and low light brings to the table.
  • Full HD 1080p at 30 fps and 24fps means that you’re going to be able to shoot high-quality video. You can even shoot at 60 fps when shooting in the 720p HD category. The built-in stereo microphone picks up plenty of audio, but even if it isn’t, you can always use the manual audio level adjustment to properly sync the noise you’re picking up to the video recording you’re shooting. Oh, and the continuous autofocus makes sure that you don’t have to be a Hollywood cinematographer to take beautiful shots.
  • Scene Intelligent Auto Mode helps make adjustments on the fly, especially for those pesky night scenes that so few cameras seem to handle well. The advanced imaging features like Handheld Night Scene and HDR Backlight Control make it easy to pick up just about anything you want, even if the sun isn’t providing the lighting you were hoping for. That gives you a free range of options for shooting just about any event to which you can bring your camera.
  • Viewfinding is a breeze thanks to a 3.0” Clear View II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD. The 1,040k-dot resolution offers everything you need to accurately predict the shot you’re about to take, whether you’re framing a still shot or some spectacular video with this Canon EOS Rebel T5i DSLR.

With so many features to choose from, it’s hard for us at Adorama not to recommend the CANON EOS T5I DSLR CAM W/18-55 STM LENS as an ideal starter camera for someone who wants to start taking beautiful shots—every single time.

From the Manufacturer
The Canon EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens is an APS-C format digital SLR camera with an 18MP CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 image processor. It is combined with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for an effective range of wide-angle to standard focal length.

With 14-bit Analog/Digital conversion, an ISO range from 100-12800 (expandable to 25600) and Multi Shot Noise Reduction, the Rebel T5i offers sharp details, accurate colors and low-noise imaging in both bright and low-light shooting situations. Its 9-point all cross-type autofocus system provides fast focusing when shooting with the viewfinder and Hybrid CMOS AF increases autofocus speeds when shooting in Live View. The Rebel T5i can continuously shoot up to 5 fps.

A 3.0" Clear View II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD with 1,040k-dot resolution provides composition and playback viewing. Its tilt and swivel capability makes it easy to compose your shots at odd angles and a smudge-resistant coating keeps the monitor clear. Intuitive touchscreen operation includes Touch Autofocus.

Full HD 1080p at 30 fps and 24 fps is supported with Movie Servo for continuous autofocus during shooting. Manual exposure is provided in video mode and 60 fps is possible when shooting at 720p HD. A built-in stereo microphone with manual audio level adjustment is provided for quality audio recording with your videos.

Scene Intelligent Auto Mode automatically makes the optimal camera adjustments based on scene recognition and improved scene detection is particularly helpful when shooting night scenes. Advanced imaging features such as Handheld Night Scene and HDR Backlight Control make capturing difficult shots easy and seven Creative Filters add expressive touches to your images and can even be viewed in real time during Live View shooting.

The EOS Rebel T5i is compatible with the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses. It is paired here with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, which offers wide-angle to standard focal length shooting specifically designed for APS-C cameras. It is equivalent to a 28.8-88mm focal length in the 35mm format and its minimum focus distance is 9.8". This lens features Canon's Optical Image Stabilization system, providing 4-stops of compensation for blur caused by slow shutter speeds when shooting hand-held in low light or at longer focal lengths. An internal focusing system provides fast autofocus and with a Stepping Motor (STM) and six-group zoom system it supports the Rebel T5i's Movie Servo AF feature for smooth and quiet continuous autofocus during video recording. Manual focus override is possible. A high precision aspherical element reduces chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range for sharp imaging and Canon lens coatings provide accurate color balance and minimal ghosting and flare.
