Questions & Answers

Jack A : What battery charger do I use when I travel to England? This one is made for US usage only.KITTY G : For overseas travel, bring an adapter for various plugs. They can be purchased online.SAM T : You can buy adapters for electric plugs in a pack that works for most electric all over Europe. You find them at electronic stores at air ports and on line. It's a small pack and I take them with me where ever I travel. Hope this helps. Peace, SamDON D : Here's what Nikon says about it: Yes, Nikon Digital SLR cameras have an auto switching (from 100v to 240V 50hz/60hz) battery charger that will work in most countries around the world. A/C adapters have similar characteristics. Always check the specification plate on your other battery chargers or A/C adapters as third party products may not support dual voltage systems. We do not suggest the use of third party battery chargers and A/C adapters with Nikon equipment. Note that the cord included with the Nikon charger or A/C adapter is designed for 110 volt use only. A power cord suitable for the local power system should be obtained on arrival, most airport shops and computer suppliers will carry these items which are typically used for laptop conmputer power supply connections. Be sure that the new cord you buy fits the Nikon adapter you wish to use it with and that it is rated for the voltage in your new location. While not recommended, a simple plug adapter may be used, but caution should be taken as the cord Nikon supplies is not rated for the higher voltage and may heat or fail.ALEKSANDAR S : I think all you need is a plug adapter (from US plug to UK plug) Check on the back if the charger handles 230 Volts.STEVEN S : Jack...Charger will work fine in England. Just be sure to bring the appropriate electrical converter which will work there!
Shopper : is this for the d700?WILLIAM T : Yes. The Nikon D700 uses an EN-EL3e Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery.DINO C : Yes, I use this for the D700.. I have one that came with the unit and I always keep a back up when I travel... dcRICHARD B : I use this charger everyday and take it with me when traveling. It's reliable and easy to use.
Shopper : How do you know when it is finished charging? Does a green light come on?JIM B : It should blink red when charging and turn solid red when charged. JimRON C : No. An orange light blinks during charging. When the light stays on steady without blinking, the charge is complete. Also, outside sources have said that for charging L-ION batteries, allow the battery (if it gets warm) to cool down to room temperature before removing and using it. I charge EN-EL3e batteries on it for a Nikon D-300s and they do not get very warm, but I let them sit (if time allows) for about 30 minutes after the light is steady. Ron ClineSTEPHEN F : The light stops blinking. When you first put the battery in the connected, plugged in charger, the light blinks steadily. When charged, the blinking ceases and the light stays on giving constant light.WIGGER U : The light changes from blinking to constand shine.DAVID R : Hi, I have two of these and they both have a status light that will flash when charging a battery. When the battery is fully charged the light remains on constantly (the flashing stops), until the battery is removed.JOHN S : There is only an amber light which flashes while it is charging and is steady on when the battery is fully charged.DAVID T : A little light blinks until the battery is finished charging. When it is finished the light stops blinking and becomes a solid light.

Great product but I have a queston

I have had one since 2006 and it works wonderfully, but I'm about to take off for Ireland and want to know whether it works on 240V 50 Hz current. The label on the back is confusing, with one set of data (120V 60Hz) and then a second set of data in a box marked "Foreign" (100–240V 50–60 Hz). "Foreign" relative to where? and is it or is it not designed to operate over the wider range of voltages and frequencies?

It works fine with a D80

Why would Nikon sell/advertise this charger for the D80 if it did not work with it? This is a good charger, however if you leave your battery out too long and it becomes undercharged, this charger will blink 5 times (I think 4 but whatever) and not charge the battery. Luckily for me I have a special universal charger, and gave it a quick initial charge, and now the MH-18a is good to go. Take care of your batteries, and your batteries will take care of you.

In response to the person from Columbia, SC

To the person in Columbia, SC that gave the negative review. The MH-18a charger is the correct charger for your EN-EL3e battery. It sounds like your issue is the battery pack itself not the charger. I am a camera tech for a large photography company (200 plus traveling studios), we use this charger and battery combo in every studio. I have had a few of these batteries that have failed recently and they are doing this exact same thing. Charger blinks for a short time then goes back to a solid light. Of the three contact points on the battery pack, only two are actually "charge points". If you look at the battery you will see the contacts are labeled as + - and "S". The S contact is the center contact, it is NOT used for charging the battery.

Does not work with D80!

I was really anxious to receive my charger from Amazon to begin using my D80 again after not being able to find the original battery charger for months. After inserting the battery in the new charger, the charger blinked about 5 times then Immediately displayed a solid amber light. This happened every time I inserted the battery.I left the battery in the charger over night. STILL NOT CHARGED! I then noticed that the D80 battery has three chargeable points of contact but the charger itself only has two!!! Returning it today!!!!

Replacement and spare unit.

Cameras used on all my hunting activities. Other activities and home events. Chargers were purchased to replace original unit lost on a trip. One unit goes in the travel kit, the other one is a backup unit for home. I also carry an ACDC charger in my travel kit.

Arrived fast, just as advertised

I had lost my original charger and searched all over the web. I actually had purchased the same item from two other websites who after taking my money called me to state that they were not only out of stock, but that there was a nationwide recall and none are available. I had to wait over a week to get my $ back. So I was surprised to recieve this item in its original Nikon packaging and it works great. Thanks Adorama.

Spare for travel bag

Bought as "travel charger" for D80. Have cut the cord to make it lighter and more mobile. Would have preferred a wall wart or shorter cord.

Good replacement, [...]

Good replacement for the included charger with my Nikon. Lightweight, but a little bulky for travelling, but a definite must have when travelling.

Works great,

The Quick Charger MH-18a is smaller than the MH-18 it replaces, and is capable of charging the EN-EL3a, EN-EL3e, and EN-EL3 batteries.
