I am sure I would have been happy with this grip if you had sent a NEW one (which is what I ordered) instead of a very well used and beat up one.

I would prefer the parts be sold separately, as will use the grip more than the battery holder. Although as fast as this camera goes thru batteries, the holder might be necessary.

This is perhaps the most well thought out accessory I have ever seen, for anything! I'll let you read about all the features somewhere else, but suffice to say that there is nothing gimmicky about this grip. The fit on the E-M5 could not be any better, and the build quality surpasses that of the camera itself. It changes the character of the camera dramatically if you use both parts, making the E-M5 much better for large lenses and portrait / event photography. If you program the camera to drain the grip battery first the lack of access to the camera battery is a non-issue. You would need to shoot over 1000 photo's in RAW to drain both batteries. I bought mine used with no problems. This is very well made, so buying used will not be a problem. Get one!

Overall, I like the two-part option of having the grip and battery/vertical hold separate, making this accessory quite versatile. The grip alone makes the camera much easier to hold and use over long periods of time - although the shutter release would have been better if it were at more of an angle. It also makes it inconvenient to replace the battery, because it must be removed to do so. The additional battery holder does the obvious, making vertical shots much more comfortable and adding battery life. Since the single battery life of the OM-D is relatively short, this is very valuable. While the grip and battery holder adds bulk, this is its purpose, making the very small OM-D much more comfortable to hold. This of course can be seen as a detriment, since most buy a camera of this type for it's small size. It seems well built, but with mostly plastic construction.

I hesitated buying this, because the reason I went into m43 is small size/low weight. Glad I got it, though. I like the modular design. The grip makes the camera much easier to hold without adding much weight. The strap is no longer in the way of the shutter button. The extra battery is great to have too when I travel. The EM-5's battery life is not great and with the battery grip, I can use the camera all day.

It gives the camera such improved handling and convenience that I haven't removed it since the the day I first mounted it...it will likely never be taken off! It's bulk and weight actually helps me steady my handheld shoots to reduce shake. Reminds me of the good old film SLRs fitted with the motor drive. It converts a mirror-less compact (Olympus' OM-D EM-5) into a convenient sized SLR. I LOVE IT!

When purchasing my OMD I didn't hesitate buying this battery grip. Both pieces live on my OMD everyday and I find it adds to the operation and function of the camera without making it heavy. I personally don't find it to be bulky or unyielding and it certainly adds a secure purchase to the camera. Additionally, I find it essential for the additional battery capacity. The single battery configuration just doesn't do it for me because of the short life span of the batteries. The build quality is rock-solid and identical to the build quality of the camera. The layout of the buttons and dials is well thought out and implemented. The are also fully customizable just as they are for the camera. Everything about this accessory is quality and well engineered. They even remember to include an tripod attachment. It's not perfect by all means. To recharge the battery in the camera, you'll have to remove the entire grip. Thankfully, Olympus did a great job designing the grip so it goes on and off quickly and easily. Buy this and another battery and don't look back! You'll enjoy the added capacity and customizability.

The most remarkable thing about this supporting battery grip is its innovative two-part design with two different types of grips for landscape (HLD-6G) and portrait (HLD-6P) shots. Attach to your camera only the HLD-6G and the bigger landscape grip offers much more grip. Adding the lower HLD-6 part (the HLD-6P) also difficult portrait shootings will be easy to handle with further dials and buttons. An additional battery (not included) can also be slotted into the lower grip (HLD-6P), extending overall battery life for longer shooting times.
The lower grip (HLD-6P) also includes an additional shutter release for greater comfort and speed when the camera is vertically upturned, and 2 additional dials and fn buttons for easy and fast adjustments are available in this position too. Both parts are also ergonomically designed for a firm natural grip, greatly improving the overall stability of the camera in your hand and the button lock switch prevents pushing any buttons unintentionally.
