So far I have enjoyed using the SP-100. The pictures are very sharp and the tele-zoom is very good. I purchased this primary for the video, and the two times I have used it it was very good, sharp picture and sound, and the focusing is good.

Wanted to upgrade from a small point and shoot. This fits the bill perfectly! So far it's easy to use with lots of features than can be used, or not. Lots of goodies to explore on this camera.

Use to shoot animals/birds - but have not had time yet. The size and extreme long lens good - also settings easy to achieve./ Not so good - I do HDR shooting and don't think can set this camera to take series of shots with change in setting for each.

The SP-100 camera is another great Olympus innovation. It gives a good balance between macro and high powered zoom ability. The picture quality is really good and the autofocus and image stabilization both work well and fast. It does a pretty fair job in low light especially in manual mode. The dot sight works well when in high zoom and can be "sighted in" via the wheel on the right side of the viewfinder. The only drawbacks so far that I've found after a week of pretty heavy use are the time consuming manual focus, and the fact that the battery has no locator on it and will fit in the slot 4 different ways (really!). I've been a fan and user of Olympus cameras since 1979 and still am even with the aforementioned oversight. All in all this camera is a lot of bang for the bucks! Thanks Oly!

Olympus has been a pioneer in the bridge camera long zoom lens digicam segment and their experience is evident in the Olympus SP100 EE 50X optical zoom digital camera. The laser (eagle eye) zoom aid is nothing short of phenomenal in it's implementation and usefulness. Designed mostly for outdoor use when you are zooming beyond the 20X range, you fill find it much easier in capturing action photos and will eliminate the need to zoom wide to find the object you are tracking. It works just like a rifle laser sight and can even be adjusted for fine calibration with an adjustment knob next to the eye cup. The camera is very well built, lightweight and constructed of high quality plastics with a carbon fiber look and feel. The Controls are solid and the assignable function button and selection wheel allow you to customize the camera for your own personal shooting preference. I owned a Canon SX50 and can compare the image quality of photos taken against the Olympus SP100. The Olympus images are very sharp and clear and noise is kept under control up to 800 iso. Color rendition and white balance are accurate with vibrant colors throughout. Have not tested video and macro capabilities yet but will update in a later review. The camera is easy to grip and hold with plenty of grip texture and having the additional zoom control on the side of the lens barrel is also a nice feature. Olympus has clear winner on their hands in the ultra competitive long zoom digicam segment.

Olympus SP-100
The Olympus SP-100 has an ingenious way to resolve one of the problems many superzoom camera users have struggled with: the farther out you zoom, the harder it is to find and focus on an active subject. Olympus has added several innovations to the Olympus SP-100, with its 50x zoom lens, to address this issue.
Borrowing a feature from gun sights, the Olympus SP-100 lets any long-range photographer become a sharp shooter when using the 50x lens's full 120mm (35mm equivalent) extension, thanks to a feature called "Eagle's Eye." This is a red dot sight that is mounted just above the EVF that offers a wide view of the scene on a semitransparent mirror. Get your active subject in the red dot and you have a much better shot of getting it in focus. Anyone who has searched a wide field and tried to achieve focus with a long tele lens will appreciate this feature.
The SP-100 uses a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, powerful lens shift image stabilization, and a super macro function that lets you shoot as close as 1 cm even when zoomed out. A focus limit button lets you focus within a preset range, which will improve focus acquisition speed when shooting at longer focal lengths.
In addition to standard P/A/S/M exposure options and controls, the SP-100 records full 1080 HD video at 60p and slow motion at lower resolutions. It has 11 Art Filters, and supports the optional Toshiba FlashAir card for Wi-Fi connectivity.
Dot Sight Framing
The SP-100's dot-sight helps you to easily track moving subjects (like a soccer game or a flying bird) and keep the subject in the frame by offering a wide-angle view of the scene on its semitransparent mirror. The dot-sight stows away for portability and pops up immediately without the need to adjust the zoom, so you never have to miss another image by having to retrace and compose
