Questions & Answers

Shopper : Just got a K-30 for Christmas. Will this work with my K-30?ALFRED S : From the info contained on the Pentax web site, the D-BG4 battery grip is only compatible with the K-5 and K-7 bodies. From what I've been able to gather, there appears to be no battery grip available for the K-30.JAMES P O : Compatible with: K-7 K-5 K-5II K-5IIsJOSE V : Not sure. I know it fits the K7 and the K5. If the K30 is similar to the K5, then it is possible. Sorry I cannot be of any more help.GUILLAUME P : No, there is no grip fir the K30 (it does not have any contact for that).GENE V : No. The K30 is a great body, but it will not take any battery grip.DONALD S : No it will not. The K-30 does not have contacts for a battery grip.PAUL S : My best advice would be to call the Pentax customer service 1-800 number and ask one of their service reps (rather than take someone else's word for it).RIC H : No, this battery grip will work only on the K7 & K5 Pentax camerasPHILIP T : This grip supports K-7 and K-5 only, not the K30.JESSE C : I have this battery grip, but I use it on a Pentax K5. I am not sure if it will work on a K30. You might go to the pentax site and get on a chat session with support.
gerardo a : can you use this on a pentax zx-7 film camera?PAUL S : I don't know. I have only K-5 bodies. Call or e-mail Pentax. They have a great support staff who can answer your question.JAMES P O : The answer is: No... there is no connection terminal on the bottom of the Pentax zx-7 camera for the D-BG4 grip's interface pins . Pentax D-BG4 Battery Grip is for K7 & K5 models. Sorry, your Pentax model does not have the connection terminal required to use the D-BG4 grip.MARK M : No, you cannot.ERIC F : No, only good on the Pentax DSLR bodies for the K7 and the K5.KERMIT K : I loved my Pentax ZX 5 camera (I assume it was very much the same as the ZX 7) and took thousands and thousands of pictures with it. It never failed me. When Pentax switched to digital cameras its first DSLR was strangely named the *istD, then to confuse everyone they went back to an old manual focus name K. The Battery Grip D-BG4, however, is intended only for two of Pentax's Digital SLR's the K 7 and the K 5. It will not fit previous Pentax models the Ks 10, 20, 100, 200 or even the latest wonder, the K 01. Sorry, Pentax did offer a battery grip for the ZX models, I don't think you could fit a D-BG4 grip on any ZX model camera. Despite Pentax's claims its or other's DSLRs are big and clunky compared to the svelte ZX film cameras. Also, back when Pentax was making film SLRs they seem not to have redesigned accessories as often as they do now. it might be found at some used camera source such as Adorama.RONALD D : DONT KNOW. MINE IS A PENTAX K5, BUT IF ITS A FILM CAMERA I'D BE VERY DOUBTFUL-THE BATTERY GRIP IS WIRED FOR A DIGITAL CAMERA.NOLAN S : Don't think so.STEVEN M : as far as i know you cant the voltages are different and the controls would be different also. i don't think it would even line up.ANTHONY C : No, k5 or k7 digital. MIKE K : I wouldn't think so.
JIM P : Is this grip also for the K-5 which I want to purchase, but not without the extra battery grip?JEFFREY V : yes, same battery grip for the K-5 as well as the K-7WILLIAM R E : Yes, works great on the K5. If you have big hands you need the grip!PHILIP T : Yes, this grip fits the K-5.DWIGHT H : Yes, that is the correct grip for the K5. It ballances the K5 much better and has good controls on it. You can use the Pentax battery or AA batteries, it will accept both.PAUL S : This battery grip will fit both, the K5 and K7. Remember, it is a battery grip...not a battery. It has an on/off switch and a shutter trigger. You will need and extra battery for the grip, in addition to the regular battery in the camera housing (same size/type battery for each location). When both are turned on, the grip and camera decide which battery to use depending upon the charge in both batteries. I have two K5's with a battery grip on each. 'Wouldn't be without them! I just spent a week in Alaska and never needed to recharge the batteries in either camera.JULIAN H : This battery grip works on both the K7 and the K5!ROBERT S : The grip works with the K-5 and the K-7. It is a separate purchase from the camera. You can use 6-AA batteries, or the same battery the camera uses.Dong S : This grip works for the K-5 perfectly. You may feel better with this grip when holding the K-5. I suggest you should check every dial and button on the grip if you purchase it. My first one had a front dial that did not work properly...MIKE K : Yes, I am using this on my K5 and it works great.ERIC S : yes the grip will work on K5TODD B : The D-GB4 battery grip works on both the K-7 and the K-5.RICHARD L : Hi Jim, yep it is the same grip for both cameras. I bought one for my K5 and it works great, I have shot over a week and still had charge left. Did a wedding over 1200 shots and still had charge left over enought to shoot for days afterward. Sorry if this was answered twice, my computer acted up and could not see if it went through. RickRICHARD L : Hi Him, yep it is the same grip for the K7 and the K5. I bought one for my K5 and it works great. I can shoot for well over a week normal shooting and I did shoot a wedding around 1200 photos then still shot for a week before recharging both batteries, they weren't dead yet but I was leaving on a trip so charged then anyway. RickJOSEPH M : The Pentax D_BG4 Battery Grip fits both the K-7 and K-5. I have a K-5 and it fits perfectly. I get over a thousand activations with the two batteries.DWAYNE P : This grip works on the K-5. I purchased both and use them together. It also makes the camera easier to handle when shooting vertical (portrait) shots, but it does add weight to the set-up.JOHN N : Yes. I have both, it fits both K5 and K7. Also: it comes w two trays-- one for a lithium battery, one for 6 AA batteries. Very good accessory.FREDERICK J L : Yes, I use this grip on my K5 - works great.MARK M : Yes. It's the same grip for the K7 and the K5. It does not come with a second battery so you'll need to get that also.DAVID P : Sorry, I have no idea, I have the K-7. It says nothing about the K-5 in the manual.BRUCE M : I use the grip on my K-5. This is first battery grip I've owned and I love it.PETER S : Yes - K7 and K5 use the same battery grip.STEVEN M : yes it is i have used it on my K5 ever since i purchased them together this spring. i like the added heft and the vertical controls along with the added batter life

It looked perfect I thought it was new

This was an excellent purchase for a used K5II battery grip. It was only rated E but it was perfect. Nice job Adorama!

A Pentax Must Have

I'm a true believer in using a battery grip on a DSLR. This original Pentax grip is built solid, has a shutter, AE lock, ISO, EV and Pentax green button. It also has dual control wheels. It also holds, in addition to the battery, a spare SD card. It is also weather and dust resistant. I believe the material is a high quality plastic with a rubberized thumb hold. I like the feel of it. If you are a portrait photographer it's a no brainer. Highly recommended.

Nice addition!

Nice addition to the camera. Helps give a more secure grip on the camera. Adds a little weight but it's worth it. Went with the name brand grip as had read complaints about off brands not "seating" properly. This one's more expensive but figured it would be made better.

Don't buy a knockoff!!!

Bought a knockoff and the alignment pins were the wrong size. Go with this OEM product. Perfect fit

a somewhat strange but needed accessory

The D-BG4 is truly expensive but I guess Pentax has to make a profit somehow and so it changes grip models frequently. That said, one feature is quite unique. The D-BG4 has two spare battery carriers! One holds the usual litium-ion battery and is clearly useful. The other holds the requisite number of AA batteries, should you be somewhere (Timbuktoo, perhaps) there is no electricity for your battery charger nor any emporia vending lithium-ion camera batteries. In that latter case, this second tray is indispensible! Although I never expect to use that second tray, the grip itself does nicely balance the camera body (a little top and front heavy, otherwise). And for that reason alone I have the D-BG4 grip on my K 5 camera body almost all of the time!

Expensive, but quality

I have the Pentax grip for my K-10 so this was an easy choice, except for the cost, about $60 more than the K-10 grip. It would be nice if the K-5 model also included storage for the remote control, as the K-5 does. Despite these "minor" gripes I find it an essential purchase; it makes the grip on the camera more comfortable for me, and the auxilary shutter and e-wheels make vertical shots so much nicer. The extra battery life is a plus.

Great Accessory. Worth the $$

I can't complain. Isn't like the rest of the manufacturers where the grip has a slide that enters the camera. This is contact point only. Adds battery power. Very Nice.

Must have accessory

The optional battery grip for the Pentax K-5 is a must have accessory in my opinion. Not only does it provide for additional power but it also gives you a more comfortable surface to hold the camera. It also has controls for portrait orientation so you don't have to twist your hand. Unlike the previous Pentax grips, this one unfortunately doesn't have slots to store an additional SD card or a wireless remote. It does however allow you to use either a Pentax rechargeable battery or AA batteries.

OEM Best Deal

I believe in purchasing OEM products, for best compatibility and ease of use. Adorama had the best price on the market for this item.

Treat yourself, buy this grip.

Don't buy the aftermarket one, it tends to lock up the K5. This one is sealed, and fits without issue. Comes with the AA battery cage or the l-ion oem battery cage. Its a bit pricey, but worth it.

The other half of my K5, a must!

I can use vertical format more often, I can rest assure the batteries last really long. I am buying Pentax and not the chinese made knock-off therefore, no problems of compatibility with the k5.

"Excellent accessory"

Wonder full with longer lenses. Like AA battery option. Great additional storage. Plastic is correct material for grip.

Excellent for the K5

I love this product for two reasons: my K5 feels so much better balanced and I haven't worried about my battery charge. With the two Pentax rechargeables on board, I have shot over five hundred pic's (with an external flash) and the camera still says it's at a full charge. Only issue: I overtightened it to the body once and it was very difficult to remove!

A great K7 addition

I keep this attached to my K7 all the time. You can choose how to manage the batteries. I've NEVER run out of power on a shoot! THere is also a cool extra battery tray to use AAs in an emergency and a little clip to hold an extra memory card. This thing is very well thought out and I won't go out without it. I also love the extra shutter release and other controls for use in vertical mode.

Solid increase in versitility.

Can add balance with heavier lenses, great for poturature/vertical shots. When your lithiums are dead and you don't have access to your charger you can use AAs! Greatly extends your shooting time.

A must have

This is a must have with the K7. The K7 is fairly small in size, and this grip adds to the ergonomics, especially when using larger lenses. The ability to use AA batteries is handy when the Pentax batteries run out of power.
