Questions & Answers

Shopper : Will this work with all of the Voigtlander Leica mount lenses??? For example, the new Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 lens? And what is the conversion factor for 35mm lenses? Thanks.SHARON A : It works with my Voigtlander 90mm and I think is designed to work with Leica M, Voigtlander M, and Konica M mount lenses. As far as I know it should also work with the adapter from Voigtlander that takes their screw mount lenses which are 39mm not the universal 42mm. I don't know what the conversion factor would be.BILL B : Yes, it will work fine and the conversion is 1.5 35mm lens becomes a 52.50 mm lens (ie. 50mm lens) on the GXRKENNETH S : I can personally vouch for the Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 which I bought to use with the A12 M. It works perfectly. I'm guessing that the 35mm will be ok, too, but you might search the web to find the answer in a forum.ANDREY C : All M-mount lenses fit well. Crop factor is 1.5xLEVENT C : That lens will be fine on the GXR. It will have a 53mm effective field of view. For focusing of the manual lens I feel that it is much easier to do if you use the optional electronic viewfinder.DONALD I : yes x1.5
Shopper : Did it last?KENNETH S : It is very well made and reliable. I have used mine a lot and have had no problems with it.BILL B : yes, no problems at all.LOUIS W : I traded in my Ricoh GXR outfit about 3 months ago for a lumix GX1 which also has a Leica M mount, which I had from a previous Lumix camera and the mount works fine. For the short time I had the Richoh A12, it worked as expectedLUIS L : I bought the Ricoh GXR Mount A12 for Leica M lenses in September 2011, and I have used this very fine piece of equipment ever since without any problem concerning durability to date. As a supporting comment, the A12 not only made possible the use all my Sumicron lenses with the Ricoh GXR camera, but also (via Fotodiox OM-LM adapter) my Olympus OM Zuiko 24mm, 50mm Macro, etc. The results of all these lenses with the A12 mount are absolutely superb in image resolution, color and exposure control, etc. The Ricoh GXR camera with Mount A12, is the best photographic tool I ever had in my 35 years of practice as an advanced aficionado. I recommend the A12 mount without hesitation ( think of all the optical quality and versatility that you are integrating in one single digital camera with this A12 mount !!! )ROGER H. G : I've only had mine for six months, not long enough to judge reliability. But it's very well built and I've had no problems with it so far.Thomas H : UNQUESTIONABLY!!!! Nothing, really, NOT to last. The images from the Ricoh GXR are also as crystal-clear and crisp - wonderful fidelity and colour saturation - as any digicam I've seen. The solid feel of the GXR "control unit" is easily mirrored by the A12 Leica-M lens mount. Note: I also bought a Leica-M to Canon FD lens adapter - and can finally use ALL of my beautiful old Canon FD lenses with this A12 assembly!!! Any "Leica-M to XXX" adapter will work, too! Not in autofocus - or even auto-exposure - just Av - but it really makes this particular Ricoh GXR "shutter/sensor module" a real jewel!!! Cannot recommend it highly enough!!!
Shopper : how many feet?LUIS L : It seems that there are more than one (at least 2) LUIS L persons here answering questions on the A12 Mount, which could be confusing to the shoppers. Mr. Adorama, please and fix the You designation for the LUIS L ( I don't mind being called Luis L 2nd, since the other Luis L was here before me )LUIS L : Can you be more specific with your question please?STEPHEN D N : Your question, "how many feet" makes no sense. However, if you are seriously interested in this camera, let me reccommend it most hightly. It is not a camera the casual photographer, but a serious tool for the advanced and professionaL shooter, who already has a supply of M mount lenses. It is a great camera, capable of producing excellent images.KENNETH S : Can you be more specific? If you are referring to close focusing, this would be determined by the closest distance of whatever lens you are using, not by the A12 Mount.

Easier to focus than my M9

I sold my M9 and am keeping my lenses with this GXR... No kidding! Perhaps the M10 will come out with a 0.72 or better finder... Until then, this GXR is much easier to accuratly focus than the M9 and it's 0.58 finder. Aside from a full frame sensor, the only think I could ask for is six bit lens coding.

The new GXR MOUNT A12 is a lens mount unit made especially for the GXR. Featuring an APS-C size CMOS sensor and a newly developed focal plane shutter, this unit makes it possible to mount lenses such as Leica M lenses, and it provides various types of compensation and correction functions

• The newly adopted APS-C size CMOS sensor expands possibilities for high resolution and imaging power
The adoption of a CMOS sensor with an optimized micro lens layout makes it possible to secure sufficient brightness levels even in the peripheral areas of the image.
The CMOS sensor used is 23.6mm x 15.7mm (APS-C size). It enables the shooting ofhigh-quality images with smooth tone gradations as well as high definition and low noise.

• Compatibility with a wide variety of lenses, including Leica M mount lenses.
Compatible with the Leica M mount, GXR MOUNT A12 can, of course, handle M-mount lenses, and if a conversion adapter is used many more types of mounts can also be accommodated.
A checking device is included for use in confirming whether or not your lenses are physically compatible.

• Diverse new functions maximize the potential of the lens itself
In order to accommodate the photographer's own preferences by adjusting for the distinctive characteristics of many different lenses, GXR MOUNT A12 can independently correct coloring at the corners. Color shading correction is possible in a -4 to +4 range for both R and B.
Peripheral illumination correction is possible in a -3 to +3 range.
A distortion correction function is provided to correct for the distortion that tends to occur in the lens periphery. The photographer can select barrel and pincushion distortion and specify "strong," "medium," or "weak" for each.
A glass optical filter was adopted and made as thin as possible. It increases periphery image quality and suppresses field curvature.

• High-precision focusing
A focus-assist function has been included in an effort to raise the accuracy of manual focusing. The photographer can select from two modes and check the focus by strengthening outlines and contrast.
Magnifying the screen image while shooting is an effective technique for focusing. The magnification can be done not only in the center but throughout the image. In addition, the image quality for 4x and 8x magnification has been further enhanced. The area to be magnified can be moved using the directional pad.

• Two shutter methods are featured: newly developed focal plane shutter and electronic shutter
With the focal plane shutter, settings of 1/4000 sec. to 180 sec. are possible.
With the electronic shutter, settings of 1/8000 sec. to 1 sec. are possible, and the photographer can shoot without worrying about shutter noise and vibration.

• The wide range of functionality that characterizes the GXR series
My Settings enables a wide range of shooting functions to be specified in an instant. For the setting information storage, six patterns can now be stored in the body's My Settings Box and six patterns can be stored in the SD card. This, along with the ability to change shooting conditions, further expands the photographer's world of photo expression.
In manual exposure mode, the shutter speeds B (bulb) and T (time) can be selected. With B, the exposure continues while the shutter release button is pressed, and with T, the shutter release button is pressed to start and end the exposure. For both B and T, the exposure is automatically ended when 180 seconds have elapsed.
Information on the lens used can be put in the EXIF information. In the editing of My Settings information, lens name, focal length, and F value can be entered.
New scene mode options have been added for the easy enjoyment of a wide range of photo expression. The five new options are soft focus, cross process, toy camera, miniaturize, and high contrast B&W. The photographer can create a unique image by just pressing the shutter release button.
An electronic level utilizing an acceleration sensor.
An image flag function to enable the quick display of specific images from among those in the camera. Up to 20 images can be flagged.
For the exterior, we utilized die cast magnesium, which has a strong track record in the GR series, and we covered the surface with a corrosion-resistant "pear-skin" coating. The end result is a body with durability, light weight, and a superior feel in hand.
It is possible to shoot 1280 x 720 pixel HD movies.
* Note: When shooting movies of 1280x720 size, the use of an SD/SDHC memory card with an SD speed class of Class 6 or higher is recommended.
