Zoom in with this Sony 18-105mm f/4.0 lens. Apair of ED glass elements and three aspherical elements ensure your camera lens works flawlessly to provide consistent aperture across the full range so that you can manage light gathering with ease.Where this Sony 18-105mm f/4.0 lens really shines is when you're taking videos. It has a near-silent zoom so that noise won't interrupt your movie, thanks to a floating axis construction that's also found on Sony's Handycam models. In addition, because the length of the lens doesn't change when you're zooming, it lets you easily handle filming for extra stability. On the side as a zoom lever so that you can zoom in at a fixed speed. This makes it easier to use camera effects to focus in on your subject. Similarly, this reduces camera shake when you are filming so that your subjects are clear. Optical stabilization is also built into this Sony 18-105mm f/4.0 lens so that you can take shots even with lower shutter speeds without blur. True to its high-end G Lens heritage, the SELP18105G lens features two ED glass elements and three aspherical elements for high resolution and contrast throughout the entire zoom range. Distortion at the wide end of the zoom range, and spherical/color aberration at the telephoto end, are effectively controlled so that beautiful rendering with excellent contrast is achieved at any focal length. A circular aperture design ensures that defocused areas are attractive too, providing an extensive palette of expressive imaging options.  Zoom operation noise has been reduced to the same level as Handycam camcorders. This is the world's first mid-range zoom for APS-C cameras to feature this type of floating axis construction used in Handycam camcorders, achieving exceptionally smooth, quiet focus and zoom operation. Another benefit of this type of constructions is that the length of the lens does not change while focusing or zooming, contributing to consistently easy handling.  Similar to Handycam camcorders, a zoom lever on the side of the lens allows both variable and fixed-speed power zooming. Variable speed control is step less, for enhanced speed control freedom. The zoom level can be operated while maintaining a stable grip on the camera, minimizing the likelihood that blur will occur due to camera shake. And since an independent focus ring is provided, the zoom ring can be used for power zoom control even while focusing manually.   A constant maximum aperture of F4 throughout the zoom range provides plenty of "brightness" for fast shutter speeds even in relatively low-light situations. The same shutter speed and ISO settings can be maintained at all focal lengths when shooting stills, and consistently low noise can be maintained throughout the zoom range when shooting movies.  Built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization can significantly reduce image blur. In addition to its advantages for normal shooting, Optical SteadyShot works with the Anti Motion Blur and Handheld Twilight modes to create clear, blur-free, low-noise images at night, indoors, or in any conditions that would otherwise be a challenge due to low light conditions, without making it necessary to boost sensitivity.

Slightly heavy for the a6000 that I'm using it on but not a problem. Good sharp exposures. Zoom switch unnecessary & distracting.

Good, slightly overpriced all around lens

After testing the lens I found the corners to be quite soft at F4 improving as it is closed down a bit (as most of the reviews had found) and the native distortion while pretty bad is well controlled in the a6300 software. The bottom line this is a good all-around lens but I definitely would not use it for landscapes. The power zoom takes some getting used to as it defaults to 18mm every time the camera goes to sleep or is turned off.

Good Lens not Great but Good

I have not had this long, but so far I'm enjoying it. It is the least expensive Sony G zoom lens for the Sony A6000 line of cameras. This lens is a constant f4, and many cameras perform best with auto focus with a lens f4 or faster. It is a larger heavier lens, than the kit lenses, but to has to be because it needs larger glass to gather more light to be f4. The zoom range is very versatile.

Least expensive Sony G zoom lens for A6000.

This is the go-to lens for the Sony APS-C line. It is sharp and has a good focal length range for a standard zoom lens. It is a little on the large side for the a6xxx/NEX bodies, but it is still a compact system with this lens. Great price as well. As with any lens, test it when you get it, make sure you know where it performs the best, and make sure there are no defects.

Perfect lens for A7S videography.

Great lens. I do video and photo and this has an excellent focal length and I love the fixed aperture. Paired with the 10-18mm, you've got a lot to work with.

good lens

I debated over this lens for years and I finally made the decision to purchase it and I'm glad I did!  I shoot mostly video and some stills too but this lens is the perfect balance of decent zoom range, size and aperture size for video.  It's quite a bit heavier than my primes but I love the zoom range and that it doesn't extend when zooming.  The $50 gift card was a bonus and made the purchase a no brainer since most of these lenses still sell for $450 on eBay.  Highly recommend this lens and company!

Excellent Image Quality

Perfect zoom range for my needs. And sharp enough for my needs.  A little heavier than I'm used to.  My hand got tired holding it after about 30 minutes.
