Questions & Answers

BARRY K : can the adapter be used on a sony a7 body ?
Shopper : Does this offer slt ?BEN S : I'm not sure what "slt" is. The adapter transfers all the A mount lens features, auto focus, shutter speed and aperture control to the E mount camera. The adapter is expensive but if you have several A mount lenses you would like to use on an E mount camera, its probably worth it. The bulk of the adapter is negligible when using a wide range zoom but not so when using a smaller lens. BenGLENN M : Your question was directed to an end-user. This is a question for Adorama. F.Y.I. I own one and it works just great. GlennRICHARD G : That's what it is. The phase detectors are in the base and the slt mirror deflects some of the light down to them. The only disadvantage of the adaptor is that the focus points are not spread over the entire view but are concentrated toward the center.
Shopper : I have a Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3. Will the IS and AF work with my NEX-6?JIM W : First, be aware that there are two models of the Sony adapter for Alpha or A mount lens to the Sony NEX E mount: The older LA-EA1 adapter will NOT do Auto-Focus, but the newer and more expensive LA-EA2 will do Auto-Focus on lens that support AF. Secondly, remember this is an adapter for Alpha or A lens to the Sony NEX E mount. The Sony/Minolta A mount lens do not have image stabilization in the lenses (the Sony Alpha cameras have IS within the Alpha bodies). For this reason, all third-party lenses, that I am aware of, that are made for the Sony A mount do not have built-in IS in the lens. If your Sigma lens has built-in IS, it is probably either a Canon or Nikon mount, rather than a Sony A mount, and thus will not mount on this adapter. Double-check your Sigma lens.DEREK S : Although I cannot answer for your NEX-6, I have that lens for my fs100u and both functions work perfectly. Maybe rent one first from BorrowLenses or similar rental house before buying. Chive On DerekANDREW R : Sony specifies AE and AF operation, however IS is not specified. Sony indicates that AF should work with most "A" mount lenses, however they also indicate that AF may not function with all lenses. Specific lens make/model compatibility is not indicated.

A Bridge Between Lenses

I bought this as a way to extend my lens selection from Sony's emount system. Although the emount lenses were good, I needed more reach and opted to purchase a Tamron 18-270 and a Tamron 70-300. Adapter works well and shows no difference in terms of lens speed, etc. Very pleased ... in fact, enough so, I bought a 2nd one so my wife can use my other lenses as well.

No image stabilization, why?

This thing is great for people the want or have to use the vast number of a mount lenses available. The problem starts with that lack of image stabilization on Sony lenses. This means you can't use the say 55-300 lens in low light without a tripod. This means no walking around exploring with it and take shots of opportunity. If you really want image stabilization you will have to buy third party a mount lens with it built into the lens. Sony, why did you leave image stabilization out? I am hoping this is something they are planning to fix with a firmware update. The auto focus is a bit noisy, but I don't do much video so it isn't a big problem for me. Sony, please add image stabilization.

It works as advertised

This adapter allows me to use my arsenal of lenses on my NEX VG30 video camera. It makes some very nice video options available to me including long range and super wide. The only bad thing is that you can only go to apeture 3.5 on video, but i think that is the camera's fault.

Great Item "BUT"

First off I am a Sony fan, I believe that they are going in the right direction with their cameras. That being said, I bought and returned the LA-EA2 due to its lack of image stabilization and this becomes apparent as you start using longer lenses with this adapter. I have the NEX 6 a really great camera, I also have a SLT A65 also great. As I see it the NEX 6 with the 16-50 lens along with a SEL 55210 is all you really need. I bought the NEX 6 for its size it seems to me that it can be a really great street camera.

NEXvg20

Got this for my NEXvg20, got a few A-mounts to compliment my E-mounts, i use fast lenses with noisy motors for fast paced video shots where audio is not an issue, then silent motor for close ups. A good buy for someone who uses a lot of lenses for different shots. Make sure you get a Zeiss prime, with SILENT motor AF!

Didn't work

I bought a new copy along with two lenses (SAL 24F20Z, Sigma 150-500). With both, the electrical contacts were intermittent at best. With the Zeiss, a slight twist of the lens relative to the adapter would fix/break the connection. With the Sigma, it almost never worked. So, the contacts were not aligned properly and/or there was too much play in the mount. It was this way right out of the box. So I've just immediately returned it for another copy, we'll see how that one does. When this thing worked, it was great, and I'm really looking forward to using a good copy.

Fast focus for action and video-zooming

I had owned LA-EA1 for the mirrorless experience without committing to E-mount lens purchases. I found mirrorless-focus to be inadequate for action-shots or video-zooming. This works really well for both. The focus motor is very noticeable in video-sound on my NEX 5g, though. SSM and USM lenses were quiet with LA-EA2, for me.

worth every penny

this product just took my NEX5 to another level, I've purchased it with 50mm lens, and I cannot stop taking pictures of absolutely everything around my house. I thought i would be happy with this purchase, but felt kind of bad of spending more money on this adapter and a lens than a camera itself, but hey, as I said, it is definitely amazing purchase.

Great but expensive

I would only truly recommend this to those who have already invested in an NEX camera and possibly the original LA-EA1 adapter plus any A-mount lenses. For those who are considering purchasing this and an NEX camera off the bat, I would suggest that you look into a native A-mount camera instead. $400 for the LA-EA2 and $600 for an NEX-5n body, you're already pushing over a grand and you don't even have a lens yet. Now for my review: So far, I've had nothing but praise for this adapter. I have a few A-mount primes that I enjoyed using as manual only, but now with the fast auto-focus, my NEX-5 feels like a whole new camera. Physically, it's not very heavy and not too large. As a bonus, this adapter adds something new to grip while holding the camera. Those who think the NEX is too small will enjoy this bonus very much. Remember that the LA-EA1 had auto-focus, but it was extremely slow. The LA-EA2 blows that adapter out of the water in terms of performance. Another added benefit is the new selection of lenses available to your NEX system. Sony is slowly releasing new E-mount lenses, but they may not please everyone. Auto-focus also performs well in video mode. It's fast and the green boxes will flash to indicate focus. I don't believe there are any stabilized A-mount, so take this into consideration.

Extends my NEX-5N Versatility!

I originally had the LA-EA1 and discovered it's limitations quickly. Returned that and waited for the LA-EA2 and WOW, what a difference. I currently have the Sony Alpha 50mm 1.4, Minolta Maxxum 135mm 2.8 and the Minolta Maxxum 85mm 1.4G lens and they all work with great precision and speed. If you do not care much for the current E-Mount lens lineup, then get the LA-EA2 and you will be able to use any AF Sony/Minolta lens that is compatible with the Sony A55. Even though the price is steep, after using it, I would say it's worth every penny. BTW - no idea why the review prior to this one receive 1 star. Because something "is in question"? Seriously? Please share your reviews only if you have used the product.

compatibility

Surprised that the 'compatibility' of cameras does not list the most 'daring' VG-10. Had called the customer support enquiring about this, but was not sure if this adapter will be compatible with the VG-10 / VG-10E. A clarification will help hundreds of thousands of VG-10 'pioneers' who invested huge sums on this 'path-breaking' hybrid camera in full faith.
