Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E ED AF-S VR NIKKOR Lens
Written by Joe McNally:
"The Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 zoom is a wonder, especially at its very affordable price point. For those photogs looking to get versatility and reach into their kit without spending a fortune, as many super telephotos require, this is the lens. It goes with me on virtually all trips. I find that extra reach of getting to the extremes of a 500mm lens gives me an edge on a job. I can really dramatically emphasize perspective, and compress a scene in a visually stimulating way. Handy is way too modest "

Nikon cameras dominate a significant portion of the DSLR market. Thanks to the reliable build quality, cutting-edge technology, and user-friendly menu interfaces of these cameras, Nikon users often stay committed to the brand through generations of equipment.
Pair your Nikon camera with the perfect Nikon DSLR lenses to elevate your photographic experience in every way.
Nikon DSLR Lenses for Full Frame and Crop Sensor Cameras
Nikon DSLR cameras come in two formats: full-frame and APS-C, or crop-sensor. full-frame cameras are typically larger and considered professional grade while APS-C cameras are more compact thanks to a smaller sensor size.
All lenses designed for Nikon DSLR cameras feature the Nikon F mount, but lenses marked DX are for crop-sensor cameras and will not work with full-frame DLSRs. You can use full-frame Nikon DSLR lenses on crop-sensor cameras, but the focal length will have a magnification factor of 1.5x.
Benefits of Using Nikon Camera Lenses
When you’re shopping for new lenses for your Nikon DSLR, you have plenty of options. Nikon and Nikkor lenses are manufactured by Nikon to work perfectly with the features found in Nikon camera bodies. Third-party brands like Sigma and Tamron also produce lenses designed for the Nikon F mount, and they have competitive features and prices.
If you’re not sure whether to stick with the Nikon branding or opt for a third-party lens, remember that Nikon and Nikkor lenses will always communicate seamlessly with the camera body’s settings adjustments, AF drives, and internal metering.
Features to Look For in a Camera Lens for Nikon
Whether you’re looking for an all-in-one zoom lens for versatility, a tack-sharp macro lens, or a wide angle lens for landscapes and astrophotography, it’s important to consider more than just a lens’s focal length.
Focusing Technology
Nikon lenses use a few different types of focusing technology. Lenses marked AF-S feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor technology for accurate, fast, and ultra-quiet focusing. AF-P lenses contain a pulsing motor, so they’re terrific for smoother focusing when recording video.
Image Stabilization
In dark environments or when shooting hand held, image stabilization can help you get a sharper image with the flip of a switch on the side of your lens.
Lens Coatings
Advanced lens coatings help reduce chromatic aberration, increase sharpness, and eliminate ghosting and flair.
Aspherical Lens Elements
Lenses with aspherical lens elements reduce distortion and spherical aberration. As a result, you’ll spend less time worrying about correcting curvatures in post processing.
