The KP is a vital tool in my list of equipment, as with my other Pentax DSLR cameras, it is weather resistant and allows me to work in conditions where other camera bodies fail. The compact size makes location work very simple so you can focus (figuratively & literally) on the work at hand. When i need one of my assistants to shoot with one of the KP bodies the option to change the grip size is handy for accommodating different hand sizes and methods of shooting.

This camera was purchased for a specific purpose, flip screen and on-board flash. The new Pentax flagship APSC's have neither. There are times I need the onboard flash for fill flash when my regular flashes aren't available. This camera is sort of a hybrid, it is not a flagship nor mid-level camera. It has enough of each for my needs. The image quality is great. The buffer is not the largest but is just as good or better than my K5 series that I am currently using and phasing out. The battery is smaller than the the K5's, but is sufficient. I purchased the battery grip and use a K5 battery in that. The camera can be reduced in size with the use of the interchangeable grips, which my better half likes. For my needs, it works extremely well!

A great little camera, especially for low-light shooting. I liked it so well, this is my second KP. I now have a backup KP.

A truly fantastic Pentax camera. The customizability alone of the camera makes it worth it.

I bought the KP because I love the durability and toughness of Pentax. This is an upgrade from my K-50 and the images I have taken so far seem pretty good. I would have liked to have purchased the full frame Pentax K1 Mark II but for an amateur like me it was too much of an investment so I chose the KP and glad I did as it does all I need!

I haven't used all its capabilities, but I appreciate the significantly higher ISO rating. I'm not using it at the max, but at the high end of the ISO available on previous models, the images are much less noisy.

Pentax is the brand of camera that I have used for the past 38 years. In that time I have purchased 8 Pentax cameras including both film and digital. I have liked all of them. The KP is currently my favorite. It is unbelievably customizable, light weight, has an adjustable rear screen, takes great pictures (even in low light), and there are numerous high quality lenses available to choose from. I don't see how you can go wrong with this camera especially at the current price.

Simply just works, Easy to use wonderful pictures even without use the Pixel Shift feature. I used the large hand grip and with the vertical battery grip because I have large hands. I'm so pleased with it that I ordered it's big brother the K1 Mark II with a Vertical Battery Grip. Really making me rethink Nikon. I don't say that lightly because I use a D5 and D810.

Haven't had much chance to use it yet but, it seems great thus far. Replacing (and taking a step up) a K-30 that finally succumbed to the aperture problem. Very pleased that I did so. Have been a long time Adorama customer and have always been pleased with their selections, prices, and service.

I was looking for a lightweight camera to take on my travels. After much research I chose the Pentax KP. Works with my older Pentax lenses and is light and easy to use.

Build quality seems to be soild. Control layout could be better and more accessible to use. Shake reduction and ibis does not really seem to be any different then in k3 or k5iis to me.

The Pentax KP is different from the competition. First, the sensor moves in camera. Its in-body shake reduction greatly helps getting clean shots while hand-holding a telephoto. I was able to take indoor shots at 600mm f/11! It features pixel shift resolution which shifts the sensor around one pixel for four shots total. A 24 megapixel Bayer array sensor has 12mp resolution in green, 6mp in blue and 6mp in red. The pixel shift fills those in so interpolation is not required between each color's photosite. The result is a sharper image. I've found the pixel shift works well when tripod mounted. The camera has composition adjustment, where in live view mode you can move the sensor up, down or to the side. It effectively makes any lens a shift lens. The effect is most noticeable on a short lens like a 12mm due to the sensors limited movement. Also, buy extra batteries, as Pentax sacrificed battery size for the classic camera style without the monster grip like most dslrs.

On Black Friday, I purchased the Pentax KP with strap, sling bag and 18-55mm DA-WR Lens. After nearly two weeks, several phone calls and e-mails to customer service, Adorama satisfied the deal....I was angry (as were others on Pentax Forum), but it was honored eventually. The KP is one of the best APS-c cameras ever made...Period. I also had no hard feelings over Arorama and recently purchased a Pentax 40mm XS pens and a Leica camera body...All is good with Adorama and me.

I am new to this dslr/mirrorless level of photography. After a month of avid research, I pulled the trigger on this Pentax KP. The price value of this 50mm kit was the best I’d seen of any camera so far among all stores. My logic behind getting a KP was that it’s weather sealed. Being at the top of my planned budget, I figured this camera would keep its utility as being weather sealed even if I am to switch brands or move on to full frame and/or mirrorless. I’ll always have a high quality weather-sealed, metal body dslr now. Now, I have to fight temptation to go lens crazy. But I’m having a lot of fun learning with this bad boy. I find the customization and dials to be easy and super helpful in learning in conjunction with general guides and lessons on the internet.

Great camera. Very clear, noise-free images. I'm still getting to know the camera. My only issue with it is that it does not play well (or at all) with a Sigma telephoto lens I've been using with Pentax cameras for a number of years.

The Pentax KP is as technologically advanced as any offering from any manufacturer. Fast focus (27 point/11 cross over), massive low light capability (to 819 K!), weather sealed, magnesium body, and the Pentax K-mount of dozens of excellent lenses are just a few of the features. Adjustable grips, easily controlled rotary buttons ergonomically placed, tilt screen, WiFi and a strong buffer make it the Swiss Army Knife of DSLRs. The fact that Pentax packed so much into this small package is amazing! A couple of shortfalls: battery life is about 400 to 420 shots, and the video capabilities are average. However, it has the new BG-7 grip available that gives the camera 1300 shots if needed or simply carry a few extra batteries along (they're small and light-no issue). I give it an A-plus for APS-c performance. For the quality to cost ratio this is a no brainer even for non-Pentaxians. Dump your Nikon and Canon plastics for this Pentax--only slightly larger than a mirrorless camera--it's superb. Period.

A veritable swiss-army knife of a camera. With the possible exceptions of Auto-Focus capability (decidedly so 2015) and lack of 4K video capture, this APS-C DSLR can do it all, and then some. Whether you shoot with decades old manual focus lenses (it's fully compatible with every Pentax lense produced since the early 1960's) or the latest Auto Focus glass, you"ll find an extremely friendly user interface, and plenty of programmable dials and buttons to make it your own. And the image quality is truly outstanding. You get crazy high ISO capability (super low noise up to ISO 3200) and 24 megapixels of resolution.....and if that's not enough, there is a feature called pixel shift resolution, which boosts your file size by like 3x, but can produce results rivalling full frame cameras. I just returned from a trip to the Grand Canyon, and just the normal resolution images were stunning. I also stiched a few panoramic images that are nothing short of pro quality. If you're on the fence.....just do it. Once you see the images for yourself, you'll know you made a wise investment.

For the people who said that the front dial looks not-ergonomic, I just want to say that this is a WRONG statement, at least for me it works great! medium hands here. The haptic feeling and the location of each of the dials and buttons is just correct and intuitive, since the first moment you carry the camera you realized how well is manufactured, the quality of the joints the gaps in the different materials is very well executed. I got the silver color and is just a mini tank with an aesthetic of form follow function, kind of classic cameras from the film era without being too pretentious. it seems that Pentax designers and engineers worked together and released this amazing product. some people say that the screen have a super big frame which is true, but it feels like a tested and strong mechanism up/down tilling, personally I prefer that since I don't take selfies, I have used in concerts and music festivals and I'll be afraid of having a more articulated mechanism. the interface with the cellphone is something that needs to be improved, and I hope it comes on a close future

Adorama should not advertise the SMCP-DA 50mm lens having the quick shift function! that's the only negative comment The camera itself is a pleasure to use for street photography, landscape and Astro. is very reliable and superfast. is a heavy sealed body w/shake reduction, w/good quality viewfinder and perfect interface, you can virtually control all with no need to go to the menus (ISO, aperture and speed, one dial per each one, this is my "back to basic" feeling), I have the impression that I got much more from what I was expecting, Pentax philosophy is like that that, I don't have superb video capabilities or fancy stuff like NFC, but I do have great image quality, magnesium alloy casing and access to K mount lenses, BTW the integration of old lens into new bodies is something that Pentax does very well and that's appreciated. check "Pentax KP - Review & Prova completa" on youtube (italian) after 8:30 min, you will see the capabilities recovering details on post processing. Is a very intuitive and powerful camera, very nice to shot with it, at the beginning you can be confused with all the customization options but after you get used to it, you just let your creativity run and it feels like a very primal instinct as a photographer. I order a lot of cameras for my friends just because they are cheaper in USA, and had the chance to use Fuji, Sony, Olympus, and I only have this nice feeling with this one like a new approach to photography, I know is a totally subjective but not all have to be cold numbers. I highly recommend this camera but only for the people who are curious and like to maximize their available tools.

Great enthusiast APS-C camera model
By DANIEL D.
If you don't want to start all over buying FA lenses to move to a Full Frame sensor, this camera offers an extended way to stay with APS-C format and still be very happy with the results. There are some standout features with the KP. Of course the High ISO capture tops that list. The first thing I did was take some sample photos using a fairly dark bedroom with patterned pillows/bedspread against a single-color wall, at all the ISO's, and then compared them using ACDSee. I would say that base...
