I love the 50mm F/2.5 lens, and this lens hood fixes the only problem I've ever faced with the lens i.e. lens flare. However I'm giving it a 1 star review because of how it was delivered. The package was left outside behind my house in front of the garage door, instead of at the front of the house. When I found the package, it was pretty beat up. I'm attaching the photos for reference.

This is the recommended lens hood for the 35 & 50mm Summarit-M. Like all Leica products, the fit and finish is second to none. You remove a threaded ring from the lens, and thread this shade into position. It has a 'limiter' with matches a similar detent on the lens. This set-up prevents the hood from being over tightened, or mis-aligned. Care must be taken when threading the hood onto the lens due to the fine threads. I could imagine someone who is in a hurry cross-threading this hood onto the lens. Take your time. If you're concerned about the hood becoming loose, try this: thread the hood onto the lens. When you have about 1/8" of an inch remaining before the hood is seated, put a small amount of clear nail polish onto the thread and finish attaching the lens. It'll be secure. To remove the nail polish at a later time, use a bit of nail polish remover. I don't think it's necessary, but you may think differently. I like the slide-on rubber lens cap supplied with the hood. Again, fit & finish is exceptional. I wouldn't use a lens without a hood. It improves the optical performance of the lens, provides protection to the front element, and looks cool. You won't look like the people who keep their lens hoods reversed mounted on their zooms. So amateur. The hood is pricy, but it's a small investment compared to the cost of the lens.

Very reliable metal hood, doesn't like other Japan lens hood in plastic of piece of cake. But no substitution only Leica.

This hood stops at the end-point to keep its horizontal level, but without a firm lock with a clasp, it tends to rotate counterclockwise easily. Twisting a thread around the male screw before attaching the hood makes this problem obliterated. Staying put without a hint of gap between the hood and the lens draws its designed function with a perfect look !

I was supirised when I purchased my Leica 90mm f/2.5 Summarit-M Lens that Lens Hood is not included. I couldn't effectively shoot in the Florida sun without protection from the sun. The Lens hood & caps are solidly constructed and screw securely onto the lens. I did have a little bit of difficulty removing the outer ring on the lens that protects the threads that the hood screws onto. The outer ring was successfully removed with the aid of a set of filter wrenches that I ordered at the same time as the Lens Hood.

I've read reviews on how easily this lens hood falls off. I've had no problems like that. Maybe I haven't tried to take the lens on and off quickly or often enough, but I've encountered no problems. It's expensive!

These hoods take a bit of study to fit to their Elmarit lenses. A ring must first be removed from the lenses. The only problem I've encountered with these is that they're easy to dislodge while removing the lens from the camera body.
