Works Great!

This pack goes just about everywhere with me. When loaded, it carries a Canon 50D with mounted 70-200MM f2.8L lens, 1.4X,2.0X and 28-135MM lens along with filters, spare battery, etc. It is light weight, well balanced and easy to carry for long distances. By not using the waist strap, the pack is easy to rotate to the front and use to brace/support the camera when shooting. I do this a lot when shooting birds and wildlife as I hand hold the camera.

Best travel bag ever

I don't know why more manufacturers don't make a sling bag. This is the best form factor of any bag I've seen. (I also own a 202 for street use.) I can fit three bodies and a good variety of lenses in this bag and access them, on the run. Unlike a backpack or shoulder bag, this bag swings from your back to your stomach allowing you to access whatever you want in the bag and then have both hands free immediately. It's very well constructed and has a lot of really helpful features. You can configure it to tightly hold and protect a really wide variety of gear and the hidden rain cover is a life saver. Best bag (along with the 202) I've ever owned. Hat's off to LowePro on this line of bags.

Plenty of room for pro D-SLR

Easily holds Canon 1DMIII, 5D, Speedlight, several lenses, etc. The single shoulder strap allows for easy access, and the wide hip belt takes the load off the shoulder.

Very versatile

I have been using this bag for almost a year now and haven't felt the need for a new one yet. This bag is very versatile and fits a lot of gear very comfortably. It currently holds the following gear: Canon 7D with grip and Tamron 28-75mm attached, two Canon 550ex flashes, two Vivitar 285hv flashes, two umbrella adaptors, Rosco gel packs and Lumiquest strap, 5 pocketWizards and a Shepard Polaris light meter. The pockets also accomodate spare batteries & chargers and synch cords. This bag is easy to carry and seems to be durable. It still looks new after nearly a year of heavy use outdoors.

Comfortable

Great for carrying and protecting gear. Comfortable and easily accessible. Don't fasten the waist belt and the pack easily swings to the front to be used to brace your arms and steady the camera. With ingenuity, you can clip tripod/monopod to the pack.

Great for storing multiple lenses

I bought this because my friend recommended it. It had a lot of slots for my lenses and the padding was good. The only thing I don't like about this was the fact that it's pretty bulky and when you have all of your camera equipment in it, then it's heavy. With those things aside, I like it because there's enough pockets for my use and holds all 5 of my lenses. It's now used to store all of my lenses when I'm not using them but I don't carry this big thing around with me. Great backpack to store lenses!

excellent bag if not overpacked

Works great to hold my DSLR with a 70-200mm lens attached plus a few other lenses and accessories. However, need to be careful about overpacking since this can get quite heavy and is not so comfortable with just the one shoulder strap. I usually switch to a regular photo backpack when I'm carrying lots of weight.

BAg ok but not great

I bought this sling bag for photographing sporting events based on advertising on how easy it was to access equipment and how much room it has. I use 2 Cannon cameras w/ mounted lenses most times out working. I carry 2 Cannon flash units (430 & 580) as well as fliters, batteries, etc... If you want a sling bag for short hikes, sporting events where you will use 1 camera and not have much extra with you that you will need to change out often, then this bag is for you. I have another BACK PACK model which, though you need to put it down and unzip it to access extra items, is better suited to long hikes, and even events where you will need to carry more than one camera. Yes, you can access the main compartment when slung infront of your body, but a 2nd camera or having to change out a lens with your only camera will not be as easy as the company would have you believe. For me, it's a 3 star unit. The construction is solid, in principle it is a good idea, but the 2 straps for carrying it (using a back pack style) and the increased room for more gear outdoes this style bag. If you are on the fence about it, dont buy it. If you are looking for a 2nd bag for quick outings (like vacations, etc..) then it may be for you. I will stick with putting my back pack down to unload and the ability to carry more gear over this style.

Very Versatile Bag!

use for my D300 plus 28-70 2.8 but will carry much longer lens on camera. Lots of additional cubby holes for flash, filters, lens, etc. Easy shoulder sling model for convenience while carrying.

Great Bag - happy with purchase so far

As a photojournalist I need ready access to a variety of equipment. Have been able to store Sony bodies (one with lens attached), four lenses, one flash unit, multiple filters and both CF and SDHC card carriers. Would like to see an outside attachments to carry a cell phone, GPS and water bottle. Also would be nice to have retractable waist belt so the ends don't flop around when not being used. If you are a well-endowed female, carrying the bag might be uncomfortable.

Great storage case

I use this case as my main storage for my gear, which is what I had in mind when I bought it. In my opinion, it's too large to use conveniently as a daypack, and lacks some features that I would want in a pack I was actively trying to shoot from. The volume of storage space is excellent. I'm able to fit two manual focus SLR bodies, a large SLR body with grip and strap attached, eight lenses (smaller ones stacked), 2 flash units, and a 2x extender in the main compartment. The front pocket and top compartment are good for accessories -- in my case several rolls of film, microfiber cloth, several filters, lens brush, remote shutter release, etc. On the downside, there's not a lot of room in this bag, despite its large size, for other personal gear, so I don't really see it being functional as a daypack. Also, unlike many of its competitors, it doesn't have a padded slot for a laptop. The pull-out all-weather cover is covenient. Haven't put it to use yet, so I can't comment on how well it works. This bag also lacks an external strap or fastener for a full-size tripod. Carried fully loaded with the waist strap fastened is bearable, and the design makes it convenient to get to my main camera when I'm carrying it. I don't like that it doesn't have a place to tuck or stow away the waist belt straps when not in use, though. Overall, when I was looking for a bag, I wanted the ability to keep and protect all of my gear in one bag, rather than one bag for each system. This bag allows me to do exactly that. Because it lacks a tripod strap and has marginal personal storage, I give it 4/5 stars. But if you need a bag just to toting around [all] your gear, I highly recommend it.

Solid bag

For a slingshot style bag this is a very good bag. The 300 fits alot of equipment for it's size. I pack a Nikon D90 with battery grip, Sigma 70-200 f/2.8, Tamron 90mm macro, Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 OS, and 2 Nikkor 50mm primes. Along with a Nikon SB600 and SB900 plus various accessories and filters. The bag can get very heavy to carry slingshot style when full. This is not a bag for all day walk around photography. The bag is well constructed and has ample padding. I would recommend this bag as a second or third bag but not a primary bag.

Nice Bag at a Great Price

Easy to carry lots of gear. While it could use a few more pockets for organizing small items, the top section has become almost like a purse for me, LOL (I'm a guy). If you fill the 300 with gear it's gonna be heavy, this thing holds a lot. I do wish the waist straps were removable. Overall a quality, well-built bag at a more than reasonable price,

Great bag...but its BIG!!!

I had been looking for a larger bag ever since I bought a macro lense. I was really interested in a sling/backpack style. My small bag was a Lowepro and I really liked it,so when I got the Adorama sale ad and saw the price,I couldn't resist. Its HUGE!!! Really bigger than I need right now, but I will hopefully be adding other lenses to my equipment so thats ok. It has lots of nice well padded dividers, you could get a large camera w/long lense attached plus six other shorter ones no problem.Theres also several pockets for extra cards, batteries, etc. This is a very nice bag!

Large-size camera bag

This bag is good size for my needs - to hold my Nikon D90, 4 lenses, 1 flash gun and misc. accessories(mini-tripods, lens filters, cleaning stuff). The 4-star is because I hardly use this for everyday usage because the bag is quite big and heavy when fully loaded. I bought it to hold ALL my equipment when travelling and I have a smaller and lighter backpack to hold whatever I need for the day unless I'm not quite sure what I would need in which case I just lug all of them in this one bag.

Not best for big lenses

still no quite as comfortable as as my cheap canon 200 backpack, with only one strap. well paded, with lots of pockets, but had to carry a large lens (70-200 2.8) in it.

great bag!

I got this for the ease of access feature, my 550D + 50-500 Sigma will JUST fit into the side access pouch! The sling is very comfortably padded, but I probably should have gone with the larger model that also included the laptop pouch, as I realized quickly that I had no way to tote my gear AND the laptop easily with this setup. If you do fill this bag with gear, you will find your shoulder hurting before too long, if you don't have everything adjusted just so. If you take the time to adjust the shoulder strap and the belt straps properly, you can probably walk around all day with this thing without too much trouble, but woe unto you if you just sling it off your shoulder!

Not quite what I wanted

I bought this slingshot 300AW bag and while it is well constructed,it didn't fully fit my notion of what I was to get. Yes, the purpose of using it for quick access is well met if all you want to do is access one camera with lens attached. Getting at any other stored lenes or flash in the main compartment is difficult and certainly NOT quick access. I used a Cannon 50D with attached battery pack, 70-200 mm zoom. I had to build up the lens padding to adjust for the added height the battery pack adds to the camera body. I carried a 2nd zoom plus a 50mm fixed and a Cannon 483 flash (a great flash for the money!) I was shooting a festival that required me walking around taking shots of varied subjects for 10 hours. I needed to take it off my shoulder every so often to rest. It DId get somewhat uncomfortable. However, despite all these cons,I would say if you are set on a sling bag for quick access, this is not totally a bad choice. I bought it on a mark down and that is a saving grace. Had I paid full price, I would have been disappointed in getting it. I carried a 2nd body with me (an older digital Rebel) and did "drop" the bag from about 1 foot. After doing that, the Rebel body stored in the bottom of the bag no longer functioned. I attribute this to the lack of real padding in the bottom of the bag. I have other back pack bags I have dropped from short heights and in every case (2 or 3 times) nothing was damaged. I would only say that I would not DIScourage buying it if you are set on it. I would NOT, however, recommend it over other styles or brands by my experiences. I would stick to the back pack style and put up with slower access. ALl in one's tastes. I am sure there are plenty of satisfied users.

Great in every way, unless your tall

I love the Lowepro bags. I have the SlingShot 200 and needed more space for my medium format gear. I bought the 300 but it lacks the chest clasp of the 200. The 300 has just the shoulder "sling" strap and the "waist" belt. I'm 6'5" so the waist belt becomes a stomach belt. The bag is solid in every other way. Sturdy, protective, and very accessible. If your short or of average height, you'll find this to be a 5 star bag. If your taller, keep looking. Sorry Lowepro.

FINALLY, a bag I can use.

I've gone through a lot of bags in my life. I've hated each and every one in it's own way. Too big. Too small. Too hard to access things. Something was always amiss. This bag is, like Marry Poppins, practically perfect in every way. It's big. It holds everything that I, as primarily a travel/street photographer, want with me. It doesn't LOOK like a camera bag so I don't attract unwanted attention. I can swig it around, flip it open, and lay my hands on ANYTHING I have in the bag in a matter of seconds. It's well padded and protects all my gear. It even has a waist belt for those times when I'm out in the bush and need to carry a lot of heavy bodies, lenses and other gear a long way. I can't tell you how long I've been looking for this bag. Now that I've found it, I'm never buying a new bag again. Unless I wear this one out which seems pretty unlikely. It's built for professional use. Fantastic product and I found it at a fantastic price at Adorama. Thanks, guys. You made my shooting a whole lot easier.

It's All in the Bag

The bag is so roomy and can be heavy if I carry all my gear which I am prone to do! But...that is why I bought the bag, and I am still finding places to store the most used and least used items. The quick access storage area for the main camera with large lens could be more padded. It transports easily and stores well. I looked a long time for a sling bag and so far this bag has filled the bill!!

A closet on your back

Excellent choice to keep everything (almost) in one place. I use it for storage and take it on shoots even if I am not going to use all of the equipment. I leave the large bag in the trunk and transfer what I need to a smaller bag. It has so many compartments I photographed the bag and then used Photoshop to add text to the photo showing where various items are stored. I printed the map out and keep it in the bag. No complaints, I am very happy with it although a couple of Velcro loops to hold a tripod would be handy

About Lowepro Slingshot 300 AW, BackPack/Sling Bag Converter

FEATURED REVIEWS

The Perfect bag - for me!

By Angelo

I've been using the Slingback 200AW and find it to be the perfect camera bag - for me! But, with new equipment I've outgrown it. When sitting down on trains/buses you don't have to remove the bag - you just bring it to the front and place it on your lap: a real snap. Also, I bring it to the front, rest my elbows on top and use it as a perch to steady my arms and camera. What took LowePro so long to make the 300 model? I'll definitely purchase one when they become available.
