A fun lens to have.

When I bought this lens I knew that the auto focus would not work on my D5600. However using the range finder for the focus I have not had any problems. I can get some very weird looking photos. It a very fun lens to have. Being very careful I have taken some spectacular landscape photos.

Best fisheye ever

Years ago while on a shoot a friend let me use his 10.5mm fisheye and I always wanted one since. So I broke down and got myself one for Christmas. I have really been having a great time with it.

Works great on full-frame camera

Just got this lens used from Adorama, and have tested it out on both my D300 and D610 in various situations, both in low and regular light. Results were very good on the D300 with some fringing which was easily corrected using Camera Raw in Photoshop. Image quality is very good, with good sharpness throughout. One thing I did notice was that when in Camera Raw I use the profile for this lens (changing the typical curved fisheye look to look more like an extreme wide-angle lens), the image tended to look soft at the edges. I would recommend that for this lens, it is best not to use the profile in Camera Raw unless you are looking for that type of effect. The real surprise was when I mounted it on my D610. The camera is set to automatically switch from FX to DX mode when a DX lens in mounted. (Basically, it's using a the portion of the FX sensor roughly the size of a DX sensor.) The results were actually better on the 610. This may be also due to the sensor on the 610 being much improved over the older 300, but in any case, it's nice to know that I can use it on either camera. Overall, I am please with the lens and recommend it. While it won't replace my super-wideangle lenses, it will be a great alternative. I also highly recommend looking at the used lenses that Adorama has as a way to save money but still get reliable equipment. I've purchased several used lenses and a camera from them with little or no problems. Any problems that did show up were quickly and professional taken care of by their staff.

Fun lens

This was a great buy. It's bright and fast-focusing, and the images are sharp to the edges. We are using this mostly for landscape photography. So far, it's perfect for capturing that single flower close-up with the background landscape in good focus.

small, light and fun.

just received my used one it today. first impressions; little by todays standards, about the size of my old 55mm f 3.5 at 1/3 the weight. it's a cold and dreary day so after reading the manual I took a couple of test shots out the front door. Fish eye is not for every one but with the right software, the distortion can be corrected. I bought Nikon's Capture NX 2 with it. this is going to be a fun lens to wander the battlefields and around town. It focuses close within an inch of the front element so one need to be careful getting too close. mine was marked as E, the description said lens and caps. I must say it looks almost brand new, came with box, instructions and lens bag. a very nice surprise but not unusual for Adorama. I'll right another review when I get a chance to do a walkabout later in the week.

Fun specialty lens

I got this lens for night skies, particularly the Milky Way. It's great for that. I'm still learning what else it's good for; it's a very specialized lens. It is good for shooting large things from close up (such as inside the dome of a telescope) and gets some interesting close ups of small items (like flowers) while still getting a lot of their environment. Buildings and horizon lines are tricky because the distortion is so noticable.

Nikon 10.5mm Processed w/ DxO Optics

I have included a photo taken with the Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye lens at The Getty Museum near Los Angeles, CA. I wanted to demonstrate that this lens can also substitute as a very good rectilinear lens by processing it using DxO Optics software. This software requires virtually no manual interventin to convert a fisheye image into a very usable rectilinear image. So with a single lens and some capable but inexpensive software, you can have it both ways, fisheye or rectilinear.

This lens works as advertised.

The biggest surprise after receiving this lens was how small and light it was compared to the several other Nikon lenses that I own. I normally carry my camera and high range zoom lens in a Tamrac Zoom bag. This fisheye is so small and light that there is room in the zoom bag to carry this lens also. Another nicety is that Photoshop will remove the fisheye effect leaving one with excellent wide angle pictures without the fisheye distortion.

Treat yourself to this one!

Super sharp edge to edge with incredibly close focusing that allows for a very expressive and imaginative rendering of people and things.

LOVE IT

I just recently purchased this lense and I now carry it everywhere I go. I recently shot our marching band at a contest, and the shots were great. The focus speed was faster than any other lense that I currently own.

Great product.

This is the lens I was missing in my collection. I use it mostly to take a lot of funny pictures of my kids and capture all the surroundings, especially outdoors. This lens performs excellent in low light conditions.

Great lens !

Great lens when you need that extra bit of coverage. Don't be afraid to use it more than others will recommend. You can correct the distortion if needed with the Hemi-Fisheye plug-in which will expand the use of this lens.

A must specialty lens

The lens is 180 degrees, which is great in itself, but with the fisheye perspective it also gives an interesting and different point of view to the shots. While using it all the time would get tiring for the viewer, an appropriate shot or two with this lens adds some great spice to any photoshoot.--Steve B

Opens your creativity

This lens will open your eyes to a whole different perspective on the world. We normally don't see the world in 180 degree panoramas. This lens does have distortion, but after all, it is a fisheye. In fact, I find myself tilting the lens up or down to exaggerate this distortion and thereby creating a more interesting image. When held normally so as to minimize the distortion, it can be corrected with Nikon software and/or Photoshop. This gives you the best of both. A super-wide angle lens for those times you just can't back up any farther, and a fisheye for you creative side. The lens cap is a slip on design that slips over the built in, and non-detachable, lens hood. Well made and everything you would expect with the Nikon name. A word of caution. The front element is domed and prevents the use of a protective filter. This lens focuses to less than one inch from the front element. The danger is that the view through the finder does not give you the impression you are that close to the subject. Take care of this lens as you would any other expensive camera gear. Being aware of this issue by checking your proximity to the subject, will make your photos fun, interesting and different from the average.

Tested several fisheyes including the Sigma. Nikon makes the best. I have learned my lesson. Spend the money for a Nikon.

Great special lense to have in your bag

I used it last week for the first time at a reception. I got some great images over and under some tight groups (looking at her ring hand, friends getting together)... just added some fun to the final product.

An extraordinary special lens

Obviously great for fisheye effects, but this is an outstanding Nikon lens. Great glass, great engineering, flawless operation. Not the first lens you should buy, but it fills an important niche that other lenses can't fill. Top of its class

Wonderful Fun Lens!

I have lusted for a fish eye lens for ages and finally decided I would make this a gift for myself. I am a photojournalist with a local newspaper and wanted to have a lens to play with and do some creative work. Just got the lens last week and am attaching my very first shot taken at the office. Sure, there is distortion...that's what a fish eye was designed to do...that's what makes it fun. Although I haven't had time to use this lens very much I love it and plan to spend hours at play. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to have some fun with photography. Forgot to add that I use this with the D80.

Amazing......

I really enjoyed playing with the distortion from this lens. The DX format made for exquisite compositions on my Nikon D300. The f/2.8 makes for nice low light pictures and beautiful images when coupled with a speedlight.
