ROBERT R : Does this lens have a lens hood. I'm not sure what refurbished means as far as rating.Would you take a trade for a 80-400mm AF VR D 4.5-5.6 with cap lens hood and 77mm uv. I Also have a 105mm 2.8G vr Micro?GEORGE P : Hi, I bought one a couple months ago. I don't remember it coming with a lens hood. I admit to having a poor memory. If the original comes with one, I am sure the refurbished will. It is primarily for macro photography, so I didn't expect one. I noticed they are available as an accessory. I seldom use lens hoods. As far as refurbished. I have bought a number of refurbished lenses, I have never been able to tell them from a brand new lens. My personal opinion is that they get them as returns (that work fine), go over them to make sure they are perfect and rebox them. I bet some only have had the box opened. Mine certainly did not look used. I like them and buy them when I can. Hope this helps. George

Every Bit As Good As They Say It Is

The Nikon 200mm f/4 micro lens is justly famous as being one of the sharpest lenses in the Nikon line-up. My experience bears this out in spades. I use it to photograph details in flowers, mostly orchids, with my D800E in a controlled setting with a tripod and multiple flashes. In this setup it is spectacular, producing razor sharp images of startling reality. I have not yet taken it into my greenhouse or used it in the field, nor have I tried to use it hand-held. It IS heavy and slow to focus as it is an old screw-type AF, just as the other reviews say. But if you want the highest possible quality images of small things and can use a tripod in your situation, this is the lens for you.
