The Nikon 200mm f/4 micro lens is justly famous as being one of the sharpest lenses in the Nikon line-up. My experience bears this out in spades. I use it to photograph details in flowers, mostly orchids, with my D800E in a controlled setting with a tripod and multiple flashes. In this setup it is spectacular, producing razor sharp images of startling reality. I have not yet taken it into my greenhouse or used it in the field, nor have I tried to use it hand-held. It IS heavy and slow to focus as it is an old screw-type AF, just as the other reviews say. But if you want the highest possible quality images of small things and can use a tripod in your situation, this is the lens for you.
