Low light, wide performance, and fast action what else could make a shoot more difficult? The Nikon 20mm was up to the task capturing flips, jumps and stunts performed by my granddaughters cheer squad.

Using this on a D7200 so it is more lens than I need, but I was disappointed in the available dx lens from Nikon. This lens is beautiful, sharp, and light enough to leave on camera all day. The positive reviews are all warranted. Also, Adorama threw in a cleaning kit and a uv filter, which I would not have bought on my own, but have proved quite useful and high quality.

I step-up on this package for fixable hood, cleaning pen and the focusing chart, but the chart was very disappointing! After buying three or four lens with packages the program software is outdated and included in most packages. Buy the packages that you don't pay extra for.

Traded in my older 14-24 2.8 for this lens, wanted to be lighter and carry "less" in the camera bag. The weight difference alone between the two lenses is stunning. This 20mm prime is incredibly sharp and fast, easily one of Nikons' best lenses in recent years. The 14-24 is a "legendary" lens but mine was never quite sharp wide open.. For weddings/events this lens really can't be beat!!

This is a very sharp Nikon 20mm prime lens at all apertures, I use it on my Niion D750, it makes 14 sunstars as you can see from my photos.

Although I use this primarily for night sky images, it is also great for all wide angle applications.

Replaced my 20mm 2.8D with this lens. Spectacular sharpness when stopped down to normal apertures. Behaves very well down to around 2.8. Significant vignetting at larger apertures, but it’s easy to correct in Lightroom. Barrel distortion also exists, though this too is very easy to correct. I prefer it over the 24mm 1.4, as it’s a little wider and much lighter. Very usable as the default lens in a 2 or 3 piece prime lens kit. The all metal 20mm 2.8 is a much more robust lens, but isn’t as fast or as good optically.

This lens is fast, sharp and light. Anytime, I'm hiking and might have a landscape to shoot, this lens is on the camera. I have used it all over the west to capture landscapes in all kinds of weather and conditions. Everything from alpine lakes, water falls, sweeping mountain scenes and astrophotography of the Milky Way, this lens is perfect and sharp corner to corner.

I got this lens mostly for photographing stars. Its f1.8 speed enables use of a relativly low ISO (100 - 200) while shooting stars at night. At f1.8, 200 ISO, 20-25 sec. a fairly full moon outside the frame will make the landscape look like daytime. The only issue I see is with the focus. Be sure to test during the day to determine the real location of infinity on this lens. Mine is a bit to the left of the actual infinity mark ?. There's not much latitude in the focus ring on this lens so it's very difficult to set it for the hyperlocal distance like I can do with my other 24mm lens. Know where infinity actually is on this 20mm lens and the stars will be sharp.

This lens seemed a bit expensive and out of range for my use when I already had the 14-24mm 2.8 Nikon. But when doing more weddings and work where I had to be on the move, the huge weight was just too much. Traded in and paid a little to get this magnificent piece of glass. 14-24 would sometimes hunt for focus and even with the stellar reviews I usually found it a bit soft and unreliable for any moving subject. THIS however is very light, a bit 'plastic-y' but that just transfers to more mobility and throwing it on and off cameras; although with its sharp, rectilinear and very clean sharpness I left it on my D810 the entire wedding. Absolutely recommend this lens for any purpose, the distortion control is so great I will be incorporating it more for environmental portraits.

Awesome lens... perfect for landscape and even as a walk around lens... another great feature is that it can focus very close. Adorama delivery was spot on.

Optically Superb Yet Very Light Weight
By Scripps23
The new Nikon 20mm f/1.8 lens has superior optics, low light capability, and very light weight for its size. The lens is very easy to travel with. I just tested this lens in Las Vegas, Nevada and in National Parks in Utah. Attached are six photos taken with this lens and a Nikon D800 camera body. Four building images were taken hand held in low light situations, at an f/1.8 aperture, and at ISO values less than 3200. Two landscape images were taken hand held during daylight hours.
Great performance, fun lens
By albeans
I was excited enough by its announcement that I pre-ordered this lens. I have both the 28 mm and the 35 mm lenses in this f/1.8 series. I use them on my D800 & D600 with great success; the 20 mm is no exception. I find it to be quite sharp, with high resolution qualities. However, Rule #1 with any new lens on my camera is an auto fine tune adjustment - must do!! After that, the results are great. I've developed a quick, easy method to run the adjustment; only takes about 5 minutes, and no spe...

With the ultra-wide view of a 20mm lens, you're free to capture expansive landscapes and architecture, wedding parties, an entire band on stage, crowd shots and much more. Add low-light capabilities to that view and the shooting possibilities are nearly endless. Introducing the AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED, a compact, lightweight FX-format lens that combines the ultra-wide perspective of a 20mm focal length, the low-light capabilities and shallow depth of field of an f/1.8 maximum aperture and the superb optical characteristics of an advanced NIKKOR prime lens. Whether you shoot stills, HD video, time lapse sequences or star trail images on an FX- or DX-format D-SLR, the AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED will widen your creative potential.
Dramatic ultra-wide-angle perspective
The AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED delivers a 20mm, 94deg. angle of view (30mm, 70deg. equivalent on DX-format cameras) that's ideal for stills or motion capture. With its 7.8-inch close focus capability, you can work in tight spaces or get close to your subject to accentuate your focal point. From a distance, the AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED lets you get wide, expansive vistas into the frame. Videographers will love using their Nikon D-SLR and this compact, lightweight lens for establishing shots, first-person point-of-view sequences and B-Roll footage.
Brilliant low-light performance and beautifully blurred backgrounds
At its maximum aperture setting of f/1.8, the AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED produces beautifully blurred backgrounds in your photos and HD videos and lets you shoot at lower ISO settings to retain high image quality. In low light situations, opening the aperture to f/1.8 will also increase shutter speed to prevent camera shake and motion blur.
Versatile, exceptional performance
The AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED is designed to draw peak performance from high-resolution Nikon D-SLRs in both still and HD video applications. Aspherical (AS) lens elements and Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements with Nano Crystal Coat (N) combat sagittal flare and chromatic aberration for superb, sharp rendering across the entire frame. Nikon's innovative Silent Wave Motor (SWM) uses ultrasonic waves for fast, accurate near quiet autofocusing as close as 7.8-inches (0.2 meters) from your subject.
The wide-angle addition to Nikon's f/1.8 FX-format prime lens collection
Nikon's family of fast FX-format prime lenses now covers just about any shooting situation or creative need. The AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED joins the 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm versions, giving photographers and videographers a versatile collection of focal lengths with remarkably consistent optical performance and exposure control. Switch between lenses without missing a beat.
AS (Aspherical )
AS stands for Aspherical lens elements. This type of lens utilizes non-spherical surfaces on either one or both sides of the glass in order to eliminate certain types of lens aberration.
ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
IF Lens
A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.
Nano Crystal Coat
An anti-reflective coating developed by Nikon that virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. Nano Crystal Coat solves ghost effects caused by red light and effectively reduces ghost and flare caused by light entering the lens diagonally.
Rear Focusing System
A system in which only the rear lens group moves during focusing, thus eliminating changes in the physical length of the lens during focusing and enabling faster focusing. Such lenses are designated with RF on the lens barrel.
Silent Wave Motor
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM), which represents a significant advance in AF lens technology. SWM uses ultrasonic vibrations rather than a gear system to focus the lens, providing incredibly smooth, silent and precise autofocus operation.
