Incredible budget macro lens

This little lens worked awesome on a recent trip. Close-ups and real macro photos of plants came out crisp and vibrant. Autofocus was unreliable up close (but I expected that), and I would prefer to not have to turn the focus ring as far to get AF to deactivate. As a portrait or general use lens, pictures were also clear with a pleasant bokeh. Some reviews I saw complained about the focal length being too short, but for me it's not an issue as I don't really take bug pictures. For plants, food, and assorted other (mostly) stationary subjects the focal length wasn't an issue. Overall, this lens worked incredibly for what I needed. Would buy again even if there was an extra $100 on the price tag.

I would say it is a must have for those into flowers and bugs!!

My first Micro (Macro) lens. Very impressed with the brilliance, focus ability and just general overall quality of this Nikon Lens.

Great lens for closeups and general picture work

This is a superb lens. I bought it primarily for close-ups and product shots. Very pleased so far. It?s also just fine for general purpose work. Keep in mind this lens puts you very close physically with small subjects where even the lens shade might be in the way. Pay attention to your surroundings.

great lens for macrophotography

Used this leans for up close details of plants and their flowers in over 25,000 pictures when years of exposure to fine desert dust froze up the motor. I just bought a replacement, because I need it on all my travels.

My first macro lens

The Nikon 40mm f/2.8 DX Micro Nikkor is my first macro lens. I love it. Macro photography is why I obtained my D7500 in the first place. Once my budget is able to breath some more (after the purchase of the D7500 and then the 40mm macro lens) I plan purchasing another macro, perhaps the DX 85mm or maybe even the FX 105mm.

Best macro for the buck!

The macro lens is a great sweet spot of price and Nikon quality. Very quick focus response when used in a normal fashion, with a manual override for that close up focus. I would recommend this to anyone looking for that sharp near field image

A worthwhile lens

It's price is hard to argue with. As a beginner this lens was a little harder to get adjusted to since macro is a bit less forgiving. The autofocus with my D3500 really sucked with this lens. I almost never used it so the manual/auto switch was very helpful since I didn't have to switch settings when I threw this lens on. Otherwise it was great with depth of field and plenty fast to catch a moving target, although it can be difficult to get close enough with a 40mm. On the other hand, the wide angle makes camera movements a lot less noticeable. It is a great entry way to macro-photography.

I got to try this lens out at school a couple of months ago while in Photography Class. It's amazing! It gives a great bokeh and focus. And the photos are very crisp and clear. Defiantly would recommend.
