Questions & Answers

Jay C : I asked and was told the Robinson 24mm tilt shift lens will work with my D3000 Nikon.  I am also wondering I upgrade to the 750 or 850 camera body will this lens fit?  Can I upgrade to another Nikon and start shooting video and still use the lenses that I buy now?JAE THOMAS S : It should work with no problems! When you upgrade, I do recommend upgrading lenses as well!CARL C : I use it on my nikon d 810. Tried it on my D7200, too, and it works.BRIAN F : It will fit any Nikon DSLR body with an F Mount, so it will fit a 750 or 850. On your crop sensor D3000 it'll be the equivalent of 35mm. If you upgrade down the road to a full frame, the larger sensor will give you the full 24mm. There's no autofocus, no communication with the camera body, and there's a manual aperture ring.
Jackie D : Will this lens work with a Nikon D40X camera?GLENN G : It should fit and operate on your Nikon. I have been able to use mine on Nikon manual focus cameras (Ai mount) from the 1980's-90's as well as Nikon digital models D200 & D300s.
Shopper : what is the difference between the Rokinon TS lens and the Samyang? are they the same lens?JOSHUA B : I do not own either, BUT in general Rokinon and Samyang are the same lenses with different names. The description for both lenses is the same and the pictures look identical. It is just my educated guess but I would say they are the exact same.

Great for the price

I?m not always working with this lens, but the few time that I use it I love it and all the editor didn?t complain on the quality of the image.

Mechanically good. Optically terrible.

Mechanically the lens looks and feels solid. The controls are smooth. Optically, it is terrible. I have used numerous Canon and Nikon perspective control lenses. I know how PC lenses are supposed to perform. This lens is not even close to the optical quality of the Canon and Nikon offerings. Image resolution is very low all across the frame at all apertures. Flaring occurs even when there are no direct point light sources in the frame. For simple perspective control you are better off shooting a standard lens and correcting the perspective digitally. A stretched and edited image from a decent quality non-PC lens will be sharper than the optically corrected images from this lens. Better yet, just use an extreme rectilinear wide angle lens, shoot it plumb and level, then crop the image. The only use I can see for this lens is extreme depth of field effects that are nearly impossible to replicate in post processing.

Worst lens I have used in my career, maybe worse than a hole in a piece of paper.

I shoot real estate professionally. My normal lenses are 16-35GM sony and 12-24G sony. I bought this lens as it is the only native sony mount TS. It ghosts, flares, is terribly soft at ANY apeture, and the controls drift. The other people reviewing have to either completely blind or paid shills.

tilt-shift fun time

I'm enjoying experimenting with this fun lens. It would be nice in today's age if it were automatic, but then I'm sure it wouldn't be so affordable. Takes a little extra time, but certainly doesn't detract from the quality of the images it captures.

Outstanding Image Quality

I read tons of reviews on this lens. I seriously considered the Nikon 24 PC lens, but could not justify the cost - IF it compared to this Rokinon. Adorama ordering was very easy (as usual) and the lens arrived in under 2 days. My testing was very thorough; mounted on my D850 I shot about 100 images over alll f-stops. Yes, corners are soft at 3.5. But by 5.6, their just as sharp as the center. I am comparing image quality to my Sigma 35 Art, which is an extremely sharp and vibrant lens. The Rokinon is very nearly as bit sharp. It takes 100% + peeping to see any difference whatsoever. The tilt/shift is smooth and does not "fall" when I loosen the tightness knob. Others indicated this and it's not true for me. The knobs are a little small, as others have complained, but I don't find it an issue. I only mention it because it's been on so many other reviews as an issue. For why you would buy this lens - controlling perspective and depth of field, it's fantastic. I cannot justify the extra $1000+ dollars Nikon charges over their equivalent. With Adorama's return policy, pick one up and test it yourself.

Good value for the money

I really like this lens! it has great rendition and is fairly sharp edge to edge. CA is minimal and easily fixed in post. The only complaint is this is a heavy lens on the A7RM3, but use it on a tripod anyway.

Rokinon 24mm f3.5 Tilt Shift - Very pleased

I recently purchased this lens. What impresses me the most, is the sharpness of the optics. In addition I have read and seen negative reviews about the plastic locking knobs. I see no issue with this. They lock as they should. Obviously, they are "not" designed to be torqued down, of which there is no need to anyways.

Great Budget Alternative

I use this lens primarily for real estate and product photography. The Rokinon is less than half the price of its Canon equivalent, and nearly it's equal in image quality and function. Real Estate: If you are serious about getting into any type of structural photography, this is the lens to start with. I curently have little need for the tilt function, but the ability to shift is key for producing proper vertical lines. This lens performs very well at higher apertures, which is where you want to be anyhow. At f/11 and below, you can see it becomes a little softer than the Canon, but for the price, and the fact that I hardly use it below f/16, it's a no brainer. Product Photography: I primarily use this lens to shoot garments for catalog photos, where the garment is parallel to the sensor plane to maintain proportion. The main reason I first chose this lens for the purpose is because it is a nice sharp prime, and I do not have to worry about the lens sagging and having to refocus if I have to take some time to adjust my lighting or subjects. The reason I continue to do so is the fact that it is sharp enough to practically count the threads in fine cotton apparel. The ceveat is that if there is so much as an eyelash on the piece, it will show up. The shift function is a bonus in this application, where if you can't position the camera directly on the subject, you don't have to take your camera out of parallel to center it, which would cause distortion. This lens has its specialized applications, and is not for everyone. If you are doing any kind of structural work, or for certain types of products, this is a sure winner. All T/S lenses that I know of are manual focus, but in my opinion, that kind of forces you to be more mindful of your subject. One downfall (which is truly nit-picking) is the lack of communication with the camera, which is present in the Canon. In your EXIF data, it appears as a 50mm lens, and does not retain your f/stop information. This is helpful to me for analyzing and repeating results. Simply taking notes solves that. One last thing is the mechanism itself. Some have complained (elsewhere) of the knobs being too small - which I tend to agree to an extent. I have large hands, and the knobs could use to be a bit bigger, but too much larger, and there would be less room for my finger to get a firm hold. Lastly, the tilt and shift rails have very little tension, so you also have to hold your adjustment against gravity until you lock your position - which I did not have to do with the Canon. All-in-all, for my purposes I believe this lens to be 95% the lens that the Canon is, but for the same money, you could buy two of these and still take your family to dinner twice a week - for a month. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because 4.5 is not available, and the cons listed above keep it from being a 5.
