Questions & Answers

ROBERT H : will this lens fit a Pentax K-50 and still able to use AF?BERT H : Yes.MICHAEL E : Hi ...I have a Pentax K-r and have no problems with the lens. Autofocus works well. I don't know the specs of the K-50, but it should work. If it doesn't, you should be able to return it.KEVIN D : Bob you should have no problem with the lens working with your Sigma 10-20mm. I have one and like it a lot. Have not had any problem with the auto focus.TURNER C : Hi bob. I own a pentax k-50 and this lens. It fits and auto zooms great. I am an amateur photographer but I love this lens. I take a lot of pictures for real estate agents and this lens is perfect for small rooms. In addition there is little to no fish eye without correction and none lens correction on light room. It you are looking into a wide angle lens, I would seriously consider this one.GUILLAUME P : From what I see on the manual of the K-50, it has the AF coupler (the screw drive coupler), which it the way the body adjust the focus on the lens. This lens as the receiver for this AF coupler (I own such a lens), so the AF will work with the K-50. The mounts will be compatible, since it works on my K-5 and K-7. Happy shooting!DEBRA H : I have only used it on my Pentax K-5, and everything, AF included, works smoothly. Hope that helps...GARY M : I really like this lens. I don't have a k-50, but it AF works just fine with my K10-d and my K-3. The only aspect I wish I could change is the sunflare ray pattern at f/22 is not as elegant as I would like.THERESA E. J : If you buy this lens with a Pentax mount, then yes, it will fit a Pentax K-50 and the AF will function. As an aside, you can find answers about using Pentax questions by checking the Pentax Forum at . PF is a friendly place, and there's even a Sigma 10-20 Lens club thread (search on the forum for the direct link) where you can find many stunning examples of what this lens is capable of in the hands of Pentax owners. Fill disclosure: NO, I'm not affiliated with the Forum, but find it a very useful and helpful place to get help and entertainment from Pentax owners/users. Enjoy your lens and camera!Otavio F : Yes, it will fit pentax K-50 (certainly fit my K-5 which i am certain it;s the same mount). And most definitely work with auto-focus. Awesome wide angle lens! Very sharpJENS A : yes absolutely. It will work on all Pentax dSLRs.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?DAVID B : I borrowed a friends lens before purchasing this for myself. It is a very nice wide angle lens for a pretty decent price.

Worth the money

I bought this lens for landscape photography so not being fast is absolutely not an issue--nobody shoots landscape open wide. Tested it last weekend and I'm totally impressed with the wide view and definitely no complaints on performance. This is my second Sigma lens (the other is the 50mm 2.8 prime). I did a lot of research before settling on this.

Perfect for landscapes

Not a fast lens but who shoots f2.8 for landscapes? Perfect for me.

Superb DX Wide Angle Zoom

I noticed I reviewed this lens back in 2007, but since have moved entirely to FX and had given this lens to my daughter. This week, I decided to buy a new D7200 as a fun lightweight vacation camera and knew I needed to re-purchase this Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6 lens because my daughter won't give mine back. Coupled with an older Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, these will be the only DX lenses I'll need to go with my huge selection of FX glass. There's a reason there is such a huge cult following for this Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6 wide angle and is the reason I am re-buying it. It is just a superb example of this kind of lens. It's very sharp and fairly distortion free. It's 10mm wide end gives me that huge 100 degree field of view I love so much over the years. When used correctly, you can really get in tight with foreground elements while framing the background landscape elements, producing lovely images. The glass is sharp enough to take advantage of today's 24 mp camera sensors providing you do your part. All in all, I highly recommend this lens and the fact that it's so inexpensive is an added bonus.

Nice extra wide angle lens for the money

Over the past few months, I have encountered several situations where I needed a wider angle lens than my basic 18-55 lens. In looking at the available lenses, including reviews, this lens looked like a very good lens, in terms of "bang for the buck". I've had it for a couple of weeks now, and have used it exclusively on several walking trips. I've not been disappointed. You have to be careful with image distortion at the very wide end (typical of very wide angles). So far, I haven't experienced any serious vignetting, but I tend not to shoot with the lens wide open most of the time. It does create some interesting angle distortion, but again this is typical of the wide angle. This lens isn't quite as fast as the newer Sigma lens, but so far, I haven't found that to be an issue. The lens appears to be well made, and works nicely with my Pentax camera, and at less than half the price of the comparable Pentax 12-24 lens. The autofocus speed has not been a problem, since most objects I shoot with this lens aren't moving very fast (or at all!)

Great wide angle

I use this when I have a limited amount of room to work with. If you aren't familiar with ultra-wide lens, you need to know you can photograph an entire firetruck from about 1 foot away from the front bumper. Very useful when photographing cars, boats, tractor, and the inside of homes if you do real estate. This lens is very sharp if used properly. If outdoors, use the hood. There is no image stabilization on this lens, so you need to use your rule of thumb on shutter speeds or a tripod.

Nice lens

It's a great lens as it takes filters. on the A-77 it's still fairly wide, I returned it and got the 8-16mm as it is noticeably wider, but no filter. On the A-77 @ 1.82+/- crop.

Very nice super wide angle zoom lens

I bought this to get the super-wide angle landscape shots I've always dreamed of getting but not had the equipment for. I am very happy with this lens. I like the colors, speed and sharpness I have been able to get so far. Right now I only have a UV filter on it and need to get a decent polarizer to really test out sunny high elevation skies.

A little distortion at the edge

Use the len for travel Take very good pictures Color /tone /sharpness. At 20mm comparable / AS GOOD as my Nikon lens Only drawback: at 10mm little distortion at edge of some picture which is normal for wide angle lens. Overall a very good product with reasonable / affordable price

Beware of defective copies

Got this lens to use with Pentax K01. The lens looks and feels expensive. At f4, the sharpness is not usable (You won't carry a DSLR for that kind of image). I think the sharpness is best at between f5.6 and f8. Even at that range, I still find it too soft for landscape photo. The distortion is not much of a problem at 10mm. There's a lot of people saying that they received defective copies of this lens. I'm not sure if mine is. I'm used to Micro43 with 20mm f1.7 pancake lens. This Sigma lens is just as sharp as the 20mm at wide open at the very best.

Sigma 10-20mm review

This lens will help create amazingly colorful landscape shots. The 10mm focal length makes for a surprisingly wide angle that helps you capture the way you see it. A treasure of a lens for the price. Only thing I would improve is faster F-stop but I would expect to pay more for it. Besides, my trusty tripod can make up for low light landscapes needs.

It all worked out

This lens is the most enjoyable lens to shoot with that I have ever used. It makes you work hard to get the best composition, putting the photographer back into photography. Sure, you can use it on a wide vista and 'get it all in there', but the photos are boring. They document a wide field, but unless you are really into this wide open, often empty look, you will not be impressed. Once you get right up next to your prey, THAT'S when this lens shines. There is a little distortion to deal with, but nothing deal-breaking. The photos you get when you take the time to compose and include are stunning. Crisp and clear and loaded with items of interest and real compositional appeal. This lens is an excellent value, especially used.

im happy with my purchase

I was searching like 1 month for decent wide angle lens.I was struggling between tokina 11-16mm and sigma 10-20mm but i end up with sigma. I'm not a professional photographer so i didn't want to spend a lot of money for my lens and this i a best choice for me.To fit my budget and to be happy with purchase at same time. Lens is very good quality taking a very nice photos .Go with sigma and don't worry.

Look for the green flare

I was shooting at sun rise and 20% of my images have green flare. I can't say another lens would do better, but I won't buy another Sigma lens. Please find some place to try this lens before you buy.

Good value for the money

Use of the built-in flash causes shadow, but I knew this before buying. Gives me more good/great images in wide angle range. Quality is good to best; works very well on my Nikon D40.

I wish I had purchased this lens sooner

This lens is great with tolerable distortion. Doesn't work well with on-board camera flash due to its size. I was amazed to receive the lens in Langley BC Canada the day after ordering it.

so far I am happy

Have only used it once on a trip to the mountains, but so far the lens seems to take sharp photos, even to the edges. The lens cap is a problem, though. The slightest touch will cause it to fall off.

Not As Described -No AF/M switch.

Warning to all that may purchase this lens. Although the lens will autofocus, there is no way to lock-in that feature. The gallery photo, the Sigma website description and the instruction booklet that accompanies the lens all show an Autofocus/Manual switch on the base of the lens. It just does not exist.

Great little lens

I purchased the Sigma due to money constraints to place on my Nikon D7000. The lens fits the camera well, focuses without problems and is relatively lightweight. The 77mm cap size is really large, but then it is a wide angle. I have used Sigmas in the past with my Canon SLR/DSLRs and have nothing really negative to say about it.

great value in ultrawide

This lens merits 5 stars when compared to alternatives. A well constructed , smooth operating performer . No u/wide is optically perfect but c/a is a non-issue , distortion average, and sharpness is generally good.Half the cost of the Nikon , and better build than Nikon and Tamron. Can't beat it.

FEATURED REVIEWS

Happily I bought it !

By Emilio

Excellent. Sharper and distortion is minimal, and the contrast and colours are Very well.

Great lens for the money

By DAVID W.

I've been using this lens about 10 months with a Nikon D70 and am extremely happy with it. The image quality is excellent though the colour balance appears somewhat warmer than with my Nikon lenses (but not annoyingly so). The lens construction quality is also excellent - it feels very solid and is definitely better than the older Sigma lenses I own.

10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC lens allows enjoyment of super wide-angle photography and it is a very powerful tool for indoor shooting and landscape photography

Wide angle of view (102.4° at 10mm and 63.8° at 20mm) offers the photographer greater freedom of expression.

These are special DC Series Lenses designed so that the image circle matches the smaller size of the image sensor of most digital SLR cameras. Their specialized design gives these lenses the ideal properties for digital cameras, the compact and lightweight construction is an added bonus!

Three SLD glass elements are employed for effective compensation of color aberration, which is a common problem with super-wide angle lenses. One piece of glass mold and two hybrid aspherical lenses, offer excellent correction for distortion, as well as all types of aberration.

This lens is equipped with an inner focusing system, and the models which are equipped with HSM system provide quiet, high speed autofocus shooting and also offer full time manual focusing. It has a minimum focusing distance of 24cm (9.4") at all focal lengths. The non-rotating lens barrel perfectly suits the petal shaped lens hood. A circular polarizing filter can also be used conveniently.

Please note:
Vignetting will occur if the lens is used with digital cameras with image sensors larger than APS-C size or 35mm SLR cameras.
