The radio needs a photo sensor to dim the display and this is my fourth HD radio and the only one that will not power up on a digital subchannel. I cannot set the alarm to wake me up on an HD-2 or HD-3. It should not come with the bass and treble both set high above neutral and the tuner should com preset to the North American band plan.

By pleasant, I mean I can listen to it for hours without fatigue and feeling the need to scream. While there is relatively minimal bass, it still sounds, overall, pretty good. You can *hear* the bass notes; they're just not.. bassy. I set the bass to +4 and the treble to +6. Remember, this is a hundred-dollar radio, and it is lightweight and *portable*. Don't expect Bose or Boston Acoustics sound. With NiMH rechargeable batteries it weighs 2 lb. 10 oz. I find it has excellent sensitivity and selectivity on both AM and FM. The AM sound quality, especially on an HD station (where available) is pretty darned amazing. FM HD is "enhanced" FM with added stereo separation and sounds really good, too. With the speakers as close together as they are, the stereo effect is minimal when the radio is set at a distance, but it still spreads out the sound and adds a dimension. There is a nifty HD-seek button that scans only for HD stations. The rec-out is a handy feature for sending a clean signal to a better-sounding system. I don't need the clock or alarm, so I have no comment on that. There should be an on-off light to illuminate the text (it disappears quickly when the radio is battery powered), and you have to view the screen pretty much straight on to read it. It takes over four seconds for the radio's sound to come on after pressing the power button or changing bands. Weird. Overall, I am very satisfied with this radio.

I was hoping this would be like the PR-D15 except with HD radio thrown in. For some reason they put a smaller AM antenna in it making the reception worse than my other Sangean radios. The sound is awful too. If they added a bandwidth switch for AM, it would improve the sound drastically.

Nice sensitivity and selectivity on both bands for a small portable radio. Good sound for its size. Haven't had it long enough to judge battery life.

If you want to listen to all of the HD stations with a great sounding portable radio, this is it. I almost used it 24 hours a day for the first week of use, Jan 13 to Jan 21, 2017. However, after the first week, the earphone jack would not cut the speakers off consistently. It would cut them out for a few minutes and then the speakers would come back on even though the earphone was plugged in. I enjoyed this radio so much that I am asking for an exchange. If you buy this radio, buy it from Adorama since they have the 30 Return Policy. Another major retailer only has a 14 day return policy. The AM reception is pretty good. I believe it to be on par with the CCradio. The FM reception is OK. I wish it would be a little more sensitive on FM. I was receiving more stations on a car HD radio than the HDR-16. However, reception on FM is not bad.

I have used a couple of the European HD radios; none of which included AM-HD. I regularly receive KSL in Salt Lake City on 1160 in AM-HD at 450 miles along with KNX-1070 Los Angeles, WCCO-830 in Minneapolis and KKXA-1520 in Seattle. The sound quality is great, too; especially with its adjustable bass and treble. Highly recommended!

I am very impressed with the sound quality from such a small radio. It would have been even better if Sangean had included a USB port and bluetooth connection, but all things considered it is a great little radio.

This is a terrific little radio that lives up to its description. It receives AM HD as well as FM HD broadcasts. The AM sensitivity is very good and it will decode AM HD with ease. The FM HD offers additional stations and is also very selective and sensitive. If you're looking for a full functioning AM-FM HD radio, this one is the one you want. It sounds fabulous through a headset and mighty nice through the built in speakers. Check out the review from Radio Jay Allen for all the features. I'm very satisfied with my purchase from Adorama.

This radio gets great reception and the digital tuner is great. The radio is not super loud like a boom box but it does get loud enough to enjoy, and has great sound quality. Placing it in the kitchen for some background music I leave it on Vol-12 or 14 depending on how loud it is in the room with conversations going on. The volume does go up to 28(Max) and holds up quite well without any major distortion. Nice bass sound and you do get Bass and Treble controls that adjust from ( -6 to +6 ) for both bass and Treble. I wish it had bluetooth reception, so I bought a bluetooth receiver that hooks up to the Aux input, it works great! Overall I love this thing. It comes with AC wall adapter, so far I have been using C batteries (4) for about 15 hours or so and still going strong.

I purchased this radio for myself but gave it to my wife instead. The Radio was bought with the intention of bringing in the digital signal that a car can get in the driveway that cannot be tuned in on analog radio, This did work for this. Adorama has the best price. I am thinking about purchasing another for another dwelling. Radio was well packaged for shipment by Adorama.

Couldn't be happier. Why spend ($)+ on even a used Bose when I rec'd. a new Sangean for 1/3 the price! --Jim

Good audio quality. No estimate yet on battery life. Clearly the best HD portable. Down side...my location suffers terrain blockage so experience signal dropouts from KUAC. But this is no fault of the radio.

I'm disappointed in the sound quality of this radio. The speakers look bigger than they actually are. I have 3 other Sangean an radios and I'm surprised they didn't make this one sound batter, especially because it's not a real small radio, and for the price, I expected it to sound richer.
