I recently added a camera manufacturers flash to my equipment list because I was unable to get the required attachment shoe to fit my new digital camera. My previous aftermarket flash is still a powerful and useful device but to use it remotely with my digital camera I needed a digital compatible sensor that would handle the preflash of the digital flash. This is a simple optical sensor that allows use with 2 or 3 preflashes. It is good for occasional short session use but needs battery replacement when used for many hours. It's inexpensive and simple and fits my current needs.

It does what it was designed to do and the cost is minimal.

I got this because being SUNPAK I figured it to work with their flash units, in fact a support page somewhere said it works w/ PF30X (supposedly Nikon TTL compliant, but only on camera hot shoe - else worthless flash) but it only works with really basic non-intelligent units

Do not waste your time. I have tried to use it with various Canon flashes and it is next to impossible to line up the contacts between the flash and this slave unit. Even when you finally get the contacts lined up and the ready light is on... the device may actually be locked and the only way to find out is to try to cycle between 1 flash - 2 flash... If it will not cycle, you have to turn it off and then back on. This is probably the worst designed piece of equipment I have used in almost 40 years of photography!

This thing is garbage! Don't buy it! It worked three times then nothing. Tried every setting, turning off & on, blasting it full power--it doesn't work. I can maybe get 1 shot out of a hundred to flash so I know it's not operator error. When it does flash the pre-flash cancellation works and it's synced with my digicam even on full auto. Would've have been nice because the directions show that you can hook 2 flashes together via a sync cord; it also has 4 preflash + a manual setting; but alas it is useless. The manual is pretty cryptic and hard to understand as well--badly written.

Great slave - I use it to pop an old flash onto the background. Offers several pre-flash cancellation options and works even when using iTTL! The 1/4-20 threads on the bottom are a plus. Don't hessitate to buy this, just make sure you buy extra batteries for it - the On/Off switch is easy to leave on (trust me!!)
