Shopper : I'm trying to decide what to get. Why did you pick this one?SUSAN R : I needed an affordable lighting and seamless setup for photographing my sculpture. One attraction of this kit was that it has both black and white backdrops. I can chose which one to use, based on what works best for a particular sculpture. The price for this kit seemed very reasonable--so much so, that I was a little worried about quality. However, I was pleased to find that the quality was excellent. The individual components are easy to setup, use, and store. I am very happy with this purchase.
Shopper : Hi, I'm a decorative artist and I'm looking to light interior walls with an even, soft lighting without harsh shadows. Do you think this is a good lighting option? I was also wondering if I could use an energy efficient bulb. Thank you in advance! L.PHILIP D : For product shooting I have used regular light bulbs in inexpensive shop lights, the kind with the round aluminum bowl, and clipped a diffuser over the front. I set my camera to tungsten and got fairly good results. These should be even better since the umbrellas will eliminate hot spots but not as good as a studio flash set-up but not as expensive. Make sure you set the camera to tungsten or everything will be kinda yellow.CHRISTINA C : These are very bright, HOT lights. You can buy lower wattage bulbs at home depot that aren't as bright. But, you will get shadows the closer the light is to the source. I use them for photographing details on products. I use a clip on diffuser which helps with the shadowing. Hope this helps.JOHN S : Using an energy-efficient bulb would defeat the purpose of this light set. These are photo floods and are not designed to deliver lighting for hours on end. I wouldn't recommend them for anything other than location shoots with electricity. Sorry.JASON N : I just noticed something after I sent my last reply. The light that you are ordering is different than what I purchased. I got two lights that are enclosed in a sft box to disperse the light evenly. It looks like you got a floodlight.
JasonJASON N : I am not a professional photographer but I think this a a good option for soft light in the absence of sunlight. As for the bulbs, I think you have to use the bulbs that come with the kit as they emmit a certain type of light. I would recommend this product as it is a professional kit in a small, convenient package and is quick setup.

JasonSYLVIA R : Is this just to light a room or for photographs? I don't recommend this type of lighting for everyday lighting. They get really hot. You would get really hot from the light as well. Also photo flood light bulbs are recommened for this type of lights. Not standard light bulbs. For soft lighting a Softbox is recommended not umbrella. I hope this helps. GALEN C : These lights work very well in photography and will serve as a great decorative light. I have bought a few other lights online, but you can tell that the SV lights are well made and since they can take a high wattage bulb, then I am sure they will serve you well.

Thrifty Kits are designed to fulfill basic lighting requirements at an exceptionally affordable price. Each Thrifty Kit has hand spun reflectors made of high strength aluminum with chemically atched interiors for maximum light dispersion. The outer finish is photographic black baked on enamel.
