Works well and the sound quality is good. The recorder takes a TRS plug, allowing me to use some of the mics I had on hand. SD card and batteries were included, so I was able to get up and running quickly. Only complaints are that the plastics on the recorder feel a little cheap, and navigation menus take a little getting used to.

Spectacular combo , Tascam recorder does it’s job , selection on the audio out format capabilities is a plus , connected to the different microphones also sets the bar up . Really happy with this products

The recorder arrived a day earlier than what was mentioned when I ordered it. Adorama's website is very easy to use and I had no problem ordering it from my cell phone. The recorder is great and is quite easy to use. Two thumbs up to Adorama and Tascam. Regards Shankar Sundaram

First time user of an audio recorder. Quality is great. Personally feel like it’s unnecessarily complicated to use. Still don’t understand how to create folders and save files to select folders. But I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Overall it’s crisp and clean haven’t used the actual mic on the recorder since I own a shotgun mic. But I’m happy with my purchase. Don’t know if I’d choose it over the zoom h1n. But if it’s on sale for $80 or less I’d say go for it.

A whole lotta features for the price. Had a problem with original recorder however Adorama made an exchange promptly. Audio quality is excellent, for our use there are far more features than we could ever make application to. Having both a SD card & USB allows us to download recordings to several of our devices without need for adapters. The playback audio is poor, about what you would expect from size of the enclosed 14mm speaker, no disappointment though. However there is one glaring feature missing, it won't brew a cup of coffee. . . . . Richard Richard

It works well and is easy to use. I recorded some spring peepers outside and it picked them up pretty well. My Daughter liked the chromatic tuner. I'm hoping that I can record Brand X at a club in Baltimore soon, that will be the real test. I put a 32GB flash card in it so even at the max sample rate I'm good for like 16hrs, gotta love that!

The Tascam DR-05 recorder that I purchased performs very well. For the price and quality this recorder is hard to beat. I'm a big fan of Tascam because of good engineering that goes into their products. I'm a big fan of Adorama because they stock good products. I highly recommend the DR-05 for those looking for high usability and longivity without breaking your budget. I give it 5 stars for its price and features. MGP

I've owned higher end versions of this same recorder in the past so I already know what those versions are capable of and was familiar with the interface. The nicer versions have, by far, better microphones. Still, this is a good option if you're on a budget.

Very easy to use. Sound quality pretty good. I would like to see better auto levels when speaker is further from the recorder. Copying audio files to computer works well, either from device or from micro-SD.

Purchased for my daughter who needs a voice recorder for a research project. Lightweight and more than adequate quality for voice and causal live musical recording (the DACs should support an external mic for more serious recording). Only qualm is that the unit feels chunky and not as well-built in comparison to my Edirol R0-9. Overall, a good value, especially when on sale.

Sensitive, crisp recording. Output speaker volume is a bit low, but enough to tell recorder is operational. Played through external speakers, sound is excellent. Very good value for the money.

Excellent audio recorder. Much higher quality than the recording apps on your phone, ditto vs. small voice recorders. I use this to record meetings. Highly recommend.

Cheap, quality gear that performs every bit as good as I need it to and better

I use this recorder to tape live concerts mostly in small venues. There's a large (but shrinking, it seems) hobby community of music nerds who share recordings online and via mail; think Deadheads and more sophisticated. Our arsenal used to include Sony D8 and M1 DAT decks, tiny lavalier mics of varying price and quality, pre-amps, battery boxes, etc. I've used the D8, the M-Audio Micro Track I, the Zoom H2, and now this Tascam, and the Tascam is the best by such a large margin. Easy to carry anywhere

Tascam's DR-05 brings high-quality stereo recording to an easy-to-use portable powerhouse with a size and price that anyone can handle. The DR-05 records in MP3 or WAV format - including 96kHz/24-bit high-resolution audio - to microSD or microSDHC media. A pair of all-new microphones handles up to 125dB SPL with the sensitivity to capture every detail.
With new recording features like Peak Reduction and Quick Menu, the DR-05 puts album-quality recording in the palm of your hand. Everything about the DR-05 is designed to get the best quality recordings of your music. A new pair of built-in microphones withstands up to 125dB SPL - the volume of a jet plane from 200 feet away - yet still have the sensitivity to capture every detail of a performance. You can add your own microphone or line-level source through the 1/8" stereo input, including plug-in power for microphones that need it.
Internally, the DR-05's digital and analog circuit boards are built separately to increase noise performance, with a low-impedance design to further decrease hiss. A separate power supply is sent to the A/D and D/A converter for even better audio performance. The result is clean sound quality - over 92dB signal to noise ratio, under 0.05% total harmonic distortion and 20Hz to 40kHz response (-1/+3dB) at 96kHz/24-bit resolution.
The layout of the DR-05 has been revamped to be quick and easy to work with one thumb. Operations like recording, adjusting levels, deleting bad takes and adding markers are just a button press away. Dig deeper to find features like limiting, low cut filtering, a built-in chromatic tuner and more.
One new feature that makes the DR-05 easy to operate is the new Peak Reduction feature. This setting automatically sets your recording level by listening to the input and adjusting for the best level. Unlike Auto Gain settings, this one only goes down to prevent accidental distortion after a period of low level like a break. Peak Recording works in rehearsal mode or in record, so if the performance is louder than the soundcheck you're still safe. Used with the built-in limiter, it's unlikely you'll distort your career-making live recording.
Other classic TASCAM features are included, like Variable Speed Audition to loop and slow down music without changing the pitch - perfect for transcribing or learning new music. A Level Align function can be switched on for playback, to smooth out any sudden volume jumps and a Built-In Speaker is also provided. The two AA batteries are enough to power the recorder for 17 1/2 hours, even while recording at CD quality.
