JUDITH W : Hi - I'm looking for a bag that will hold a micro four thirds body with kit zoom and VF attached, along with a 50mm legacy lens with adapter, a 17mm pancake, couple filters, the battery charger and cord, an extra battery, SD cards, and a small wallet, keys, phone, and lipstick. Would be great if I could get a macro convertor in there too. Am I asking too much with this bag? I've seen that it has a lot of pockets but I've heard that when your gear is in the main compartment the pockets are impossible to get into to... Thanks for your help.FRANK T : I think that it will be too much for this bag. You are somewhat right about difficult access to some of the pockets (in the inside compartment of the bag.MARTIN G : I returned the Think Tank Retrospective 5 as I felt it was too large, too heavy and built of rather heavy, rigid material that made it too difficult to withdraw or return items. Instead I purchased the lighter, more flexible, friendlier Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Bag. I've used this for about a month now and have just returned from a trip to Paris and found it just perfect. In it I carry my Panasonic GH2, a micro four thirds body, with a 14-45 zoom attached. In addition, in the side pockets, I have a 45-200 telephoto and a 7-14 wide angle. In the front compartment I have a 20mm/1.7 pancake, as well as various cables, a filter, and other small stuff. In the sleeve on the inside of the top of the bag I have room for a plastic memory card case and lens cleaner tissues and a lens brush as well as an extra battery. If wanted to, could fit in my battery charger. I think this bag would hold most of your stuff but do not know size of your phone nor am I familiar with what a macro converter is. For me, aside from fitting in my stuff, since I bought a micro four thirds primarily because it is smaller than my SLR and easy to carry around, I did not want a bag that was any larger than need be. I'd rather cram stuff in a bit to conserve bulk and weight, and I feel that, in that respect, the Crumpler is the perfect bag for me i love it and will never need any other bag for a micro four thirds.DAVID H : I think you will have plenty of room for your gear. The only pockets that are hard to get to are the 2-pockets on the left and right side (inside). They are more like soft flaps that can be pushed out of the way. I don't even use them. The other pockets are easy to get to and there are plenty of them. This bag is very well built and I would definitely buy it again...SUSAN H : Am getting ready to use this bag, purchased a couple of months ago, for my first trip. I will be using my Canon 7d with two lenses and some accessories, hopefully with room for small wallet, for daily excursions from the hotel. I had purchased the bag with the plan to eventually use it with a set of 4/3 camera/lenses, which is what I believe it is really made for (but don't want to spend right now on the 4/3). What I'm not sure about in your case is whether the camera with 3 lenses, the camera accessories, and your other stuff will all fit. I'd suggest that you either bring your camera kit to the store and try it, or, provided that they are willing to return/refund, have it shipped and try it out.RONALD W : I can fit a Olympus Pen EPL-3 with kit lens, viewfinder in pouch or attached), Panasonic 14/2.5, Panasonic 20/1.7, Olympus 45/1.8, Contax G Sonnar 90/2.8 legacy lens and more (such as one of the zoom lenses in my bag so I would think yes to what you list including the charger and extra battery. One can get more than one would think in the main compartment and the main pocket even if the side pockets are more difficult to get act when the bag is full. It is a great bag for micro 4-3.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?JON B : This is a perfect bag for a small micro four-thirds camera system. It's one of the best camera bags I've ever owned.DAVID S : I wanted a smaller bag to carry around with me on a daily basis. I use a 5d MII and also plan on jumping into the mirror-less camera pool soon. This bag is perfect for my needs. I've been using Think Tank products since they started in 2005. I've never been disappointed by their quality and service and durability of their bags.KARTHI U : can pack up all camera gears, which it is slightly bigger so that I can also put in my iPad.

Great Laptop Messenger Bag

I purchased this bag for a trip that I was taking by way of aircraft. I was looking for something that would carry and protect my iPad Pro 11, my MacBook Air 13, and several books while fitting under the seat in front of me. This Retrospective 13L fit the bill beautifully. It is sturdy and comfortable to carry through the airport. I recommend this case for anyone looking for a slim bag that is easy to cary and use; at a fantastic price.

Retrospective 13L - Blue Slate

My Retrospective 13L is very well made,. I use it to carry me older Lenovo laptop, model T480 which it fits in snuggly. The workmanship is excellent and the material is really tough. i have other camera bags that are expensive, but nowhere the quality of any of the Thinktankphoto offerings that I've purchased.

Close to an ideal shoulder bag

I've been around for a lot of years and have been through a lot of camera bags, most in briefcase style. This one is far and away the best I've found, and at the sale price from ThinkTank is too good to pass up for the bag's quality. It's very well put together. After two months of using it, I've found that it's rugged, durable, and very well set up for all the tech I need to carry (computers and related stuff, plus DSLRs). It's got a couple of internal pockets which make it possible to separate things separately. It's got waterproof protection and, so far, seems nearly indestructible. Finally, if you're traveling widely (and for me this has meant some pretty remote and rugged places), this bag is not at all 'flashy'. Years ago, when I was traveling widely and using Nikons, we'd do things like put a piece of black electrical tape over the brand label on the camera, something that photojournalists used to do. We thought (and I still agree) that his makes the camera itself less conspicuous for photo subjects and less obviously an expensive branded product. The bag has that same quality--it's unobtrusive, rugged, efficient, and over the past few weeks priced so remarkably low that I'm considering getting another one as a backup. As a closing note: the shoulder strap is just about the best I've found for a briefcase. You can wear/carry this for long periods of time very comfortably. In other words, I'd rstrongly recommend this bag. If their other products are as good as this, I'll certainly be back.

Perfect bag for my tablets and PCs. But with one minor complaint

I have the Retrospective messenger bag for my cameras, so I thought I'd pick this up for lighter use. It's the perfect amount of space for my laptop and daily carry items. The only complaint that I have is, that unlike the camera bag, which has a divider in the front pocket, it's just one single opening. So the structure of the bag doesn't hold as well when I have things in there. But otherwise, I am very happy with the bag.

Comfortable and Conveinent!

One of the standout features of this laptop case is how well it fits my MacBook Air 2020, along with all other essential accessories. The main compartment has enough space for power accessories, cabling, two USB-C adapters, two small journals, pens, and even a water bottle! The case is designed to accommodate all your essentials while keeping them organized and easily accessible. The messenger-style padded strap is another feature that adds to the overall comfort and convenience of the case. It's very comfortable to wear, even for extended periods, making it a great option for students, professionals, or anyone who needs to carry their laptop and accessories around regularly. Overall, I believe that the Think Tank Retrospective Laptop Case 13L is an excellent product that delivers on both style and functionality. It's a well-designed case that can fit all your essentials without feeling bulky or cumbersome. The padded strap ensures that you can carry it comfortably, and the quality of the materials used ensures that it will last for a long time. If you're in the market for a high-quality laptop case, I would definitely recommend giving this one a try!

Great bag

I was looking to add another 15? laptop bag. A few years back I purchased My 2nd Brain laptop bag and loved it. Contacted ThinkTank and they said they didn?t make that size bag in that style anymore and referred me to the Retrospective briefcase. Works perfectly for me and I saved money. Tremendously happy with it. Big thanks to the customer service at ThinkTank!

Long time fan of the Retrospective line so when I picked up my new MacBook Air this was a natural accessory. Typical Think Tank quality - very well built. I see this as my everyday carry for a long time to come.

Simple. Unassuming. Well made.

Just what I wanted and at half the original price so I have zero complaints. I’ve always been a Retrospective fan so ThinkTank is the first place I looked after buying my 16 inch MacBook Pro. There’s also plenty of space for dongles.

This was the laptop bag that I needed

My previous laptop bag was starting to fall apart with years of occasional use. The threads where the handles were attached were coming undone and, on my last trip, the anchor which held the shoulder strap snapped off and my bag came crashing down. I've long been a fan of ThinkTank photography bags and how durable yet comfortable they were, so when I saw this Restrospective Laptop Case 15L, I thought I had to give it a try. I intended to use it with a 15-in MacBook Pro which I normally keep in an Incase Compact Sleeve, so I was delighted to find that the laptop could fit my new case while it was still in the sleeve! I am able to place my iPad (also in an Incase Compact Sleeve) in the next compartment along with a couple of GRID-IT! organizers holding my cables, chargers, power banks, flashlight, and tools. The bag also has a front compartment which I use to toss things in temporarily, but will eventually find permanent uses for. The only downside to the bag are the lack of pockets, but my wife simply suggested I get the equivalent of purse organizers (which is why I bought the GRID-IT boards to try). This actually works better than my previous bag which did have a bunch of pockets but many that were too big or too small and were a constant source of frustration. Also, my wife says I look a lot better with the new bag than my old one.

Retrospective® Laptop Case 15L - Awesome !

I’ve spent a lot of time looking for a messenger bag that was well thought out, but simple at the same time, and the Retrospective® Laptop Case 15L was everything that I needed and more. Style is classic, price point is perfect, velcro closures where you need them, plenty of space, and the cloth breaks-in very nicely. Comes with a rainfly, velcro closures also come with flaps that allow you to “turn-off” for silent opening. Just a brilliant bag.

Finally a laptop case that understands traveling!

My biggest problem with laptop bags is that they are so tight you can usually get the laptop and hardly anything else in. I've been doing a lot of traveling and I needed a bag that would hold my laptop, charger, ipad, documents, external drives etc. I had been through three different bags when I recieved an email about this one. YES! It fits everything I need it to without getting so tight I can't pull any one thing out individually. I'm a big fan of Think Tank's Retrospective series so big bonuses there. I am in love with this bag!

Good bag could be a little better

First, I'm very happy with this bag. It fits my Canon 5D IV with 100-400 attached, plus 2 more lenses and all the accessories I need. It's made with typical Think Tank quality. As others have mentioned, the front flap is much longer than it needs to be, and it gets in the way sometimes. The extra length doesn't serve any practical purpose; even with the front pouch stuffed full, the flap could be 4 - 6 inches shorter and still keep the bag closed properly.

Perfect!

A laptop bag which fits my Microsoft 13.5" Surface Book 2 perfectly. A I mean perfectly - I'm really hard to please! The Retrospective design makes the bag look nothing like a laptop bag & the shoulder strap is great for the slightly weighty Surface Book.

Best shoulder bag period

By tanglefoot47

I have owned about every shoulder bag there is. This ThinkTank 30 is the best I have ever used. It's a larger bag but not huge and best of all for it's size it holds a lot more gear than you would think. I can get two bodies 7D plus 50D with each body attached with 100-400 and 70-200 2.8 plus room enough for the 258-135

Almost bullet-proof

By Keith

My wife and I recently backpacked around Malaysia for 3 weeks. I needed a bag for daily use for the camera as well as for valuable items, such has passport, phone, money, airline tickets, water bottle, snacks etc. The weather was uncomfortable: 28 celsius every night and 36 celsius every day. The humidity was constantly between 90 and 100 percent. We travelled in buses, boats, trains, cars, aeroplanes and walked the crowded streets and alleys. I took 1400 pictures and the camera almost melted...

The Retrospective series is comprised of four shoulder bags and two lens changer bags. Created for the professional photographer that wants to blend in with the crowd and remain inconspicuous in any situation. Our product designers have blended the look and feel of "old-school" camera bags and infused it with "new-school" features and technology for the digital imaging age.

The exterior of each Retrospective shoulder bag is purposefully simple, allowing photographers to inconspicuously blend into their shooting environment.

The Retrospective 5 also fits a standard size DSLR kit. A compact kit of prime or small zoom lenses fits easily, with one lens attached to the camera body. Pictured here is a Canon 5D with a 16-35 f2.8 attached and a 50 f1.2 beside (with lens hood in position).

The Retrospective 5 easily accommodates a Micro Four Thirds camera system with 3 6 lenses and accessories. Pictured here is an Olympus E-P2 with 17 f2.8 and VF-1 optical viewfinder attached, 14-42 f3.5-5.6, 40-150 f3.5-5.6, FL-14 flash, SEMA-1 external microphone adapter set, VF-2 electronic viewfinder, battery charger and an extra battery.

The "Sound Silencers" underneath the main flap eliminate the loud tearing sound hook-and-loop makes while opening the bag. Simply release the Sound Silencer panels and cover the hook-and-loop strips to prevent the hook-and-loop from contacting. A clear businesscard pocket, for identification and spare cards, is also lo cated under the main flap.

Hook-and-loop panels securely fastens the main flap down, keeping valuable photo equipment hidden from view.

Have a Leica, Zeiss or Voightlander rangefinder system? The smaller size of the Retrospective 5 lends itself well to street photography. Stay nimble and discreet, carrying just what's needed for the day.

The Retrospective 5, 10, 20 and 30 all have an organizer pocket inside the main compartment. It gives photographers enough space for small, but significant, accessories necessary for a successful shoot.

All the dividers inside the bag are removable so the interior can be customized to any photographer's set of gear.

Within the Retrospective 5, 10, 20 and 30's main compartment, are two collapsible nylon pockets (one on each side). These pockets are tall enough to fit most flash units or other accessories. A hook-and-loop strap can be used to secure the contents or it can be tucked into the pocket for quicker access.

An expandable pocket on the front of the Retrospective 5 can be used to carry a regular size DSLR body.

A wide storage pocket is located on the back of the Retrospective 5. This pocket can be used to carry small maps, booklets or other paperwork.

The Retrospective 5, 10, 20, and 30 each have a removable carrying handle for convenience.

A fully adjustable, canvas strap is integrated into each Retrospective bag. For extra comfort, a breathable cushioned pad slides along the strap for optimum positioning. Sections of non-slip material on the pad helps keep the entire strap on your shoulder.

Webbing loops on both sides of the Retrospective 5, 10, 20 and 30 can be used to carry some small Modular, Skin or Multimedia pouches on the side of the bag. Alternatively, a carabiner (not included) can be used to quickly clip accessories to the the sides of the bag as well.

Side pockets on both sides of the Retrospective 5, 10, 20 and 30 can be used to carry smaller water bottles and will even fit some shoe-mounted strobe units.

The seam-sealed rain cover included with the Retrospective 5, 10, 20, and 30 was specially designed to keep the carrying handle andintegrated shoulder strap outside the rain cover without compromising protection from the elements (Retrospective 20 pictured). Viewthe video in the window to the right, to see how to properly attach the rain cover.

All the shoulder bags in the Retrospective series are available in two colors, pinestone or black. Pictured here are the Retrospective 20 in pinestone and the Retrospective Lens Changer 2 in black.
