Everyone needs this lens

I love this lens, period. Nearly half a pound lighter than the 28-70mm kit lens and an inch shorter, it's instantly become my daily driver. Sure, it's a plastic mount, focus is a little sluggish, and it's not as sharp as the G or GM equivalent, but you can't beat the price comparatively. I highly recommend this for any beginner or new Sony user, especially for full-frame cameras.

An Beginner's MUST

I bought the 50mm f/1.8 Sony lens used and it did not disappoint.  It's sharp and lovely for portraits. The f/1.4 would have been nice, but too pricey.  This one will do nicely.

This lens is tremendous! Having a 50mm, after only shooting wide has really opened up the possibilities. Lightweight, durable, super sharp.

Fantastic lens

I'm an intermediate shooter and usually shoot in videographer situations, and I do some photography as well. I really like this lens. Being able to shoot with an f-stop as wide as 1.8 is really nice for darker shooting situations. For the price, this is a quality lens.

Photos are good but the video quality is where I think it shines. Yes at times the AF can be loud, but if it's just for a cinematic videos this lens is great. Also for the price this lens is legit!
