This adapter fit easily into my Sony XR-500V camcorder's AIS shoe. It locked securely in place. It seems to be well constructed. I am using it for a Rode Videomic Pro, which is very light. I am sure it would hold a heavier device though. The one I received is different from the picture on Adorama's site. Mine included a well-written instruction sheet that has "AIS-FLAT-V.2" as a title at the top, so maybe this is a new version. The instructions say it is a product from DM Accessories, LLC. The website is: [@]The item I received differs from the picture in the following ways:1. The cold shoe part is black, not grey/silver. I think it is plastic, but it could be painted metal. (The bottom part that slips into the AIS shoe is unpainted steel.)2. There is a black knurled wheel to lock the shoe into place. In the picture, I don't see the wheel and it looked like it had to stay in place by friction only. It actually tightens down with the wheel, which is good.So far I am pleased. As long as it holds up well over time, I will be happy with it.My only negative comment is that the price of [$] seems high for this simple device.

quick and dirty solution to use regular shoe accessories on your Sony Handycam. It works, no thrills though. I am recommending it.

Cold shoes adapter

I had to file on it a little to get it to fit easily. Once that was done it was perfect.
This "cold" universal shoe adapter meant to fit into Sony's Active Interface Shoe to allow lights, mics and other universal shoe mount accessories to be mounted to the camcorder. Known compatible camcorders are HDR-HC1, HC3, HC5, HC7, SR1, Ux1 and Ux5 models, all Sony brand. The HVR-A1 is also compatible, but not advised because it requires the user to go without the A1's xLR block. The AIS-FLAT is a cold shoe mount adapter only. It does not pass-through the audio or power connections present in the AIS shoe on the camcorder
