Tough drive

My spouse really loves these drives, however we had footage just disappear and couldn?t figure out what happened. It only happened once, as we have many of them. It has made me a bit worried with using them now, but before that issue we were so happy with them. For that price point I would expect a lot more than wiggling chords that get lose quickly or missing files. I hope LaCie keeps focusing on quality control and making the drives better. I still would recommend them.

2GB good; 4GB bad.

I have had good experience with the 2GB LaCie Rugged drives, but every 4GB drive has quickly failed. The 2GB drives (like this one) are conservatively rated and reliable. The 4GB drives draw more power than most USB ports can supply and if used for a long write (such as a backup) overheat and fail. Bottom line: if 2GB is enough these rugged drives are great. But stay away from the 4GB drives.

Great little drive for going between USBC and USBA

This drive comes with both USBC and USBA cables, which makes it perfect for sharing between computers that have only one or the other. My MacBookPro only has USBC so I use that cable with this drive for super speedy transfers. Then when I have my videos safely on the drive and need to convert them for editing, I can take them to my MacMini which only has USBA ports. Just a swap of the cable and things are chugging along nicely. No need to worry about dongles or what will work or doesn't...
