Bought this for the extra battery and vertial grip for shooting sports. Opened the box put it on my 40D and immediately the camera wouldn't fire, using the camera controls or the grip controls. Even the focus was working about 50%. Took it off and everything was back to normal. Returned the product.

I think it does everything it is intended to do except be reliable. The back button and shutter button have both been unreliable. This is with normal shutter operation and back button focusing.

Best bang for your buck, I brought one last year for my 50D and just purchased the one for my 40D second camera. Both units work very well and have never given me any trouble. I have one loaded with cannon batteries and one with Flash Point batteries and I use them interchangeably on both cameras. The one con, the included AA battery magazines don't work with rechargeable batteries, I haven't tried alkalines yet. It does the job it's supposed to do for a lot less than the Cannon power grip, it's well made and durable.

The quality appeared to be well made. Definitely, sure beats the price of Canon OEM grip. The only thing is that the focus lock, and the focus points selector buttons are a little mushy. Other than that, it seems to be good so far.

When I decided to get a battery grip for my Canon EOS 50D, I pursued purchasing a Canon BG-E2N and could not find one anywhere. I finally went to a local camera store and tried one. The store was charging about $280 and I had seen them online for about $169, so I tried the Internet again[...] to try the Flashpoint Professional Battery Grip. I did and it is fantastic. It feels even better than Canon's. I have no complaints and have never run out of battery power, even on a day trip where I shot 550 Large format pictures, with the Auto Focus and IS on for all of those 550 shots. After using it, I would have paid far more than the [$] Adorama sells it for.

I have 2 eos digital SLRs and have the Cannon grip on one and the Flashpoint on the other and I can't tell which is which , because there is almost no difference. Except of course the price.

The shutter button on the first one quit working mid game. The second has worked fine until just recently when it too showed hints of the shutter button not working. It has not failed yet but was somewhat unresponsive occasionally at a recent game.

Like the title says, this product works great until it stops working. Mine worked well for about three months, then the camera started locking up and refusing to take pictures when I depressed the grip shutter button. Couldn't figure out what was wrong with my camera until I noticed that I couldn't zoom out of reviews of images using the grip zoom button, but I could zoom in. A message to the manufacturer has yielded no reply. It still provides electricity to the camera so I use it just sans grip buttons. If you're on a budget I can see getting it, just be aware of the symptoms associated with the buttons so that you don't spend time trying to figure out what is wrong with your camera.

Was I surprised to find a good battery grip for this price. Easily installed and fits great on my 50D. Sure make vertical shots easier and helps with the longer 100-400mm L series lens.

Can't believe the quality for the price. All buttns work, and work well. I have wanted one for quite a while. But not enough to buy Canon and figured this one for the price had to be poor quality. Boy was I ever wrong.If you put the purchase off your only hurting yourself.

This grip feels solid. I couldn't understand the price of the "official" grip, and this is cheap enough to buy and get 2 extra batteries for the same price. Fit & finish are very very good. The shutter button feels identical (best i can tell) to the one on the camera. The two other buttons don't have as much resistance and push in farther then the corresponding buttons on the camera, but feels fine. The grip does not have a AF button however, neither does the "official" grip. I'd highly recommend this product !

I can't think of any complaints for this one. Half the price of the name brand and seems to work just as well. They even went so far as to include a small compartment to house your battery door so that you don't lose it after you attach the grip. All the buttons work great. Texture feels good in your hand. Sometimes I find myself doing all my shooting with the grip buttons and have to remind myself that I can still use the camera buttons as well. I haven't used the optional AA tray, but the number of shots that the instructions claim you'll get out of six AAs really doesn't compare to what you can do with using the camera batteries. We're talking thousands vs. hundreds so I just stick with the camera's lithiums. Still, I keep the tray with me just in case. Buy it, you won't regret this cheaper purchase.

I have only used Canon BG's on my film cameras, but at 1/3 the cost I had to give this a try. I'm not disapointed. Fit, finish, and function are all on par with the Canon grips I have used in the past.

I had been looking at vertical / battery grips for a while and this does the job. I own a Canon grip for my Elan 7E which is no where near as bulky, so this took a little getting used to. I've been using this grip for a few months now and haven't had a problem. Having the ability to use AA batteries in a pinch is definitely a nice to have! This grip makes changing batteries quick and easy.

This item has worked very well for me. I have large hands and battery grip gives me a more substatial holding area. The battery grip shutter release is ideal when camera is held for vertical shots. The dual battery compartment has worked very well for giving much longer shoot times without having to worry about battery life. I am very happy with this item.

It fits perfectly with my 50D and is very sturdy. Fits great in my hands and I'm not afraid of it slipping. I can't imagine running my camera with AA batteries ever, so the AA adapter was an unnecessary inclusion. I'm hoping the sturdiness holds up!

Was looking for a grip and saw the Canon brand grip was very pricy. This boasts all the same features: AE Lock, AF select, and selection wheel along with the shutter button on the side; for a fraction of the cost. There doesn't seem to be any sacrifice in build quality, and even the rubber used for the side grip feels just as good, if not a bit softer than the rubber on my 50D.

Holds two 50D batteries or 6 AA batteries. Haven't used the AAs at all, but two regular batteries gives a significantly extended life span for shooting.

Grip is comfortable to hold in both regular and verticle shooting. Has tripod mount underneath, and on/off switch for the side buttons.

Very pleased with it and would recommend this highly!

an excellent alternative to the over-priced canon grip. the most important button, the vertical shutter release, feels just as good as the one on the body, and the dial on the grip feels good as well. the only thing that i'd complain about is the battery clip on the rightmost slot of the grip; it doesn't really hold the battery in very well. i'm sure it's just mine, though.

Besides not being sealed like the Canon version, I can't really see the reason to pay full price for the Canon brand. It feels solid, functions well and is comfortable in my hand. Being able to shoot portrait without feeling awkward makes it so nice.

The grip itself is solid, but the battery magazine for AA batteries is very poor. Everytime I take the magazine out to recharge the batteries, more and more plastic falls off the battery magazine holder. I'm at the point where it no longer holds batteries. Hopefully there is a replacement battery holder.

Works as well as our canon model, less cost bought two for the price of one canon BG-E2. Quality fit and finish seem on par, attaching was no problem, so far two shoots without any issues. Really extends battery time, no need to worry about running out in middle of wedding.

I use the grip daily on my Canon 30D, although it obviously makes it a bit heavier, it is definitely easier to grip. The rubber quality is very good, somewhat close to the Canon 30D grip. The salesguy at Adorama was kind enough to show me the OEM and this one side by side and I honestly couldn't see a big difference at all.

This is a great way to have your back-up battery handy. I can't wait until I go backpacking this summer and I will have my normal batteries installed as well as more back up AA batteries in the extra holder. A great deal for the price. A great accessory for cold weather photography.
