The old adage, you get what you pay for comes to mind. Good product, just not what I was expecting. Reviews made it sound as good as the Nikon product. I disagree. If your looking for additional battery time this product will work.

Well fitting battery grip for my Nikon D90. Easy to hold, and not bulky at all. One con: does not hold a charge as long as the original battery, but I would expect this to be normal. Can still take quite a few pictures before recharge.

Must have accessory. Adds balance to the camera, esp for portrait shots. My only complaint: when the first battery discharges, you must remove it to use the unit.

I absolutely love it! I've had it for about 6 months now and I don't have any complaints. I take a lot of vertical shots so this really came in handy with the extra shutter button. It also makes my camera look nicer and more professional (I use the D90). I don't understand what the difference is between this one and the Nikon version which is double or triple the price. It's definitely worth it and I recommend it to all the photographers I know.

Good product. Helps balance weight, especially for heavier lenses and when shooting portrait (vertical) shots. My main lens is a heavy f2.8 and I immediately noticed a difference in the camera's stability. For the price, it's well worth buying

For half the price of the Nikon brand one, this thing is the best bang for your buck. It does the exact same thing. You probably couldn't tell the difference between the OEM one and this one.

I just got this product from Adorama. [...]. First impression: easy install, great for vertical shots and extra battery time. I have not used the MB-D80 but considering that it is $100 cheaper it's really worth it. I would say anyone who buys the Nikon one is a fool with this one available..However, what I don't like is that with two batteries on the bottom it is a little bit unbalanced. And if you have a safety strap attached to it it tends to get in the way of the viewfinder. Also, the trigger is a bit "hidden" compared to the one on the body, moving your forefinger from the trigger to the aperture wheel is a little bit... complicated. Take a look at some pictures and you will see what I mean. Over all, I am very satisfied with the purchase. I would say go get it!!

I use the product on one of my Nikon bodies. works as promoted. Only con is that it makes the camara unbalanced when sitting on a table or flat surface.

I've never had the original Nikon battery grip to make the comparison,but all I can say is that it fits my D90 perfectly works great and they is no way you can tell its not part of the camera...save some money and go for it.It's that good of a product.

After comparing the Nikon product and this one, I took the chance and purchased this grip. The decision falling squarely on the price point as the features are quite comparable between the two.

I have used it for only a short time (2 weeks) since I received it. Shot about 200 pics..both horizontally and vertically to get the feel of the new addition.

First impressions..

-Well built and designed. Fits well. Matches up well to the D80 in both fit and finish.

-Smooth and quick. The operations of all the buttons and wheels are smooth, solid and feel like they will last.

-General. It does add significant size and a bit of weight to the camera. The weight of course comes primarily from the added grip, but also the addition to the second battery. Size / profile doesn't bother me (big hands) while carrying it for the little time I have used it, but may cause some concern on the days I will carry the camera for longer periods. With the grip attached the camera still fits in my bag, without altering the internal configuration, so that isn't a concern.
While shooting I found the new "feel" to the camera to be great. (remember..big hands). I am very happy with the placement of the buttons and controls. Fingers fall where they should and they all work well.

I'm very glad I made the purchase. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to increase their camera functionality, and feel. Saving over $90. with this item over the Nikon.. Icing on the cake!!

I use it when I am shooting my sons basketball games. It is less stress on my arm/wrist while waiting for a shot holding the camera without the battery pack in portrait mode. From what i have read, the Nikon brand one (at twice the price) is not any better made than this one. The only advantage might be if it blew your camera up, maybe owning the Nikon branded one (they have it made elsewhere from the looks of it) would get you a replacement. I do not see it EVER doing that, but.

The install was very easy and the D90 feels complete with the grip. Functions very well, no problems whatsoever. The shutter feels great, the command dials work great, the rubber finger rest actually feels better than the D90.

However, after a week of use daily getting it in and out of the bag, the marking on the AE-L button starts wearing off. That's probably the only downsides of it though.

I personally could not stand it so I returned it and got a Nikon one. Functionally both work fine and the Flashpoint is definitely a more economical alternative; however, it does show somewhat of a lesser quality compared to the Nikon counterpart.

Bottom line, if you don't care about marking coming off, it is a wonderful vertical grip to use.

Just got mine in today and it was a breeze to install. Feels very firm in my hands and definitely gives the D90 that extra grip that it needs. it does not add that much weight to the camera at all. Taking portait shots is much more comfortable now with the side shutter button. Very happy! thanks adorama!

It arrived today and took longer to get it out of the box than it did to attach it to the camera. Seems to be a quality product. The color perfectly matches the D90 its attached to so it looks just like it came directly form Nikon. All of the control knobs rotate smoothly and the shutter release button has a nice feel to it. Basically, its just like the Nikon part just at about half the price.

I got it for my D80, it worked great. About a month later I upgraded to D90 and it worked just as well. I keep it on the camera and never really take it off. AE-L button and dials are very convenient to have.
It offers excellent grip, and it feels quite sturdy. I never run out of battery now, and if I do I know I can fall back on AA's. This item was definitely worth every $.

This does add weight to the camera and it does ft more snugly in the camera bag BUT with 2 batteries in the grip, recharging is seldom. The grip makes the camera easier to carry.

Having read all the critiques for this product in all the Nikon camera varieties, e.g. D200, D40, D60, I nonetheless "took the risk", given the cons about which others have written, and ordered it. When it came I found I had made the right decision.
As for durability, I can not yet say, and will put this topic on hold. However I was pleased with its construction, ease of attachment and battery insertion, as well as its precise fit. Like the Nikon version, the side shutter button has an on/off lock to prevent accidental exposures. Overall, it looks and feels like it came with my D80. If one doesn't have to pay for the Nikon name, why spent the extra $50.00. Pros may offer a different perspective and to them I defer. In the meantime, it seems a great purchase for "the great unwashed."

I have the Nikon version of this grip, built like a tank. This unit feels lighter, and I suspect would be less durable. However, the button operation is actually better than the Nikon.

I use both D80 bodies about equally, so time will tell if it holds like the Nikon.
