Hey, it's a Li-ion battery, and it works. Takes about 2.25 hours to recharge, at least from out of the box. Just bought two for the D7000 and the MB-D11, so I can't say anything about it's longevity, but I've been happy with previous Nikon batteries.

I can get upwards of 1000 photos from a charge, and it recharges for me in about 90 minutes... I used to swear by carrying at least 3 battery packs, but with my D7000 and the EL15 batteries I can get by with just two pretty much all day.

The battery came with the Nikon D7000. The initial charge lasted almost two weeks of daily use before the battery indicator lost a bar. Previous batteries, used on the D50, would typically run out (I kept three rotating) within a couple of days so this is a marked improvement.
Only negative is that the battery does not appear to be compatible with earlier Nikon cameras.

I always like to have at least one battery for backup.
Getting a OEM battery allows me to keep my warranty if, heaven forbid, something happens with my camera. So I don't mind spending a little more for a OEM battery.

If you take a lot of pictures with the multiple frames per second function, you should take a second along as backup. Reasonable charge length so far; have not had long enough to figure out if it has much in the way of memory or not.

Purchased 2 additional batteries for the D7000. 1 for the vertical grip and 1 additional to handle the workload for video/still projects when 2 on-board batteries is not enough. I still have to test how much time it will take to discharge 2 on-camera batteries before the spare is needed. Otherwise am happy with the individual performance of each battery

if you have big hands or like the ergonomics of a pro body, this item might be for you. i bought a d7000 for a backup to my d3x. this makes the feel of both cameras nearly the same. portrait mode is a snap w/o a neck ache, and the addition of the control wheel to the item makes good sense, too. it's also nice not to have to change batteries in the field (and you can bring along some double a's for emergency use). as with most nikon branded stuff, a bit pricey, but good images are worth the expense.
