Given the nature of digital equipment: somethings always on!!
That eats up battery life. On the d5000, the battery indicator is more like a guide line than a true gauge, so extra batteries are a must for a day out shooting. Also, the nature of batteries is to hold less and less charge as you use them. A "re-chargable" is only good for so many re-charges. Might as well spread the load among 3 or 4.

This works just as well as the battery the camera comes with, infact, its the SAME battery. Great to have an extra hand for when your not around a plug to recharge your camera, or in the middle of shooting and need a spare.
