I was really impressed with Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack. I have one for my Nikon D200 that I ordered from Adorama. It was so easy to install and let me know about when a battery need to be charged. It lets me shoot portrait or landscape with out any problem. I use it for nature and family images.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
I think this battery grip is great. Aside from having twice the battery life, you get added stability when using bigger lenses in horizontal format. Life is so much easier shooting in portrait with the vertical shutter!
I do have one thing to say... I wish it felt a little more solid. Its fine when I use smaller lenses, but when I use my 80-200 f2.8, it doesn't exactly feel rock solid.
Don't worry about the "mushyness" that people are talking about in the shutter release, you get used to it really fast. The main and sub command dials are fine and work well, but don't feel the same as the D90s dials.
Overall I'm happy I bought this item.

got the grip for the option of using regular batteries on extended trips, a little bulky for casual shooting with a walk around lens. loss of charge can be fixed with cardboard shim to tighten batteries against contact in slightly loose compartment.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
I have been taking a number of protrait photos and have grown tired of reaching over the camera to activate the shutter when not on a tripod and/or using the remote for my D90. I find this product useful in for the extra battery and ability to use AAs in a pinch (I use the battery rack to store my rechargeable AAs for my SB600 in the bag).
The button feel on the grip is different, but only took a day of photographing the kids and pets around the house to learn the feel. I love seeing the two battery charge levels show up on the info screen and which is being drawn for camera power.
I am going to have to buy an 85 1.4 due to my 35 1.8 looking a little small.
Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
I first ordered the Flashpoint one, which is quite a lot cheaper than the Nikon. It functioned fine but the marking started rubbing off within two weeks.
Thanks to Adorama, I returned the Flashpoint one and got this Nikon instead. So far so good. I must say that the Nikon shutter doesn't have a distinct first click though. The Flashpoint vertical grip's shutter button feels closer to that of the D90.
Also the rubber insert on the Nikon is matches the D90 more closely than the Flashpoint if that is a concern although the Flashpoint rubber is softer and more "grippy."
The two grips and the battery holder very closely resemble one another.
Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
Adds bulk, but the trade-off and convenience of being in certain photographic situations and not having to worry about changing out the battery is more than worth the added bulk

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
I purchased this Multi-battery Extender for my professional use. I was out on an 8 model shoot outdoors. third click and the camera said I had no battery life left. "WHAT" I know I charged these things and had the entire day planned even with backup batteries. WOW, was I bummed. So I started to figure out what was going on. After not being able to sort it out. I had to remove the pack and shoot single battery all day. Glad I had backups. Went home, put it back in camera. Power said, FULL. Start shooting with grip on camera and snapping shots. Then rotated for portrait using the grip on the extender. Nothing, looked and camera said no power. "WHAT" I couldn't sort it out. Camera is a year old, batteries are new and full, I didn't know what it was. Pulled it out again from camera, plugged it back in, used grip on camera, SNAP, SNAP, SNAP, its OK. Grabbed the grip on extender and again, FAIL! I GET IT! The weight of the camera, in one hand, pulls the connections away from the camera battery connectors inside the camera. The way the pack is built the weight pulls it apart and there is no connection. "What's the use?" Contacted Adorama, and the guys "SCOTT"had no time to even listen to me. He said, Call NIKON, if they can't help you, send it back, you don't even have to call me, send it back to the address listed on your receipt, goodbye. "WHAT, WHAT??" I spent good money with them and this is how I get treated after I explain it doesn't work. Call NIKON, I didn't buy it from NIKON.Sent an email, explaining the deal and finally got a kind and respectful response. I am sending this back. In hopes to buy one from a local dealer. The price was nice online [...] Long story short, I got my shots I needed with the basic camera set up. I am wondering if this product was just poorly designed without the idea of weight balance of the D90 with the D80 extender.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
Not only can you take advantage of having a second battery being used for your camera but it comes with an adapter to use "AA" batteries just in case you happen to run out of battery power and can't charge your Nikon batteries. You can get "AA" batteries anywhere. This to say nothing for the great handle that aids in using the camera sideways with the second set of control.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
I'm using this grip on a D90, and it does everything it's supposed to, and does it well:
-It carries 2 batteries and provides vital stats on each (via the Battery Info screen).
-Improves ergonomics when taking portrait shots.
-Beefs up your camera to make it feel a bit more sturdy (and looks more professional).
I know that sounds basic, but that's really everything I was told (and hoped) it would do. I also noticed that with the grip attached, I get ever so slightly more room for my pinky when holding the camera's usual grip--that extra notch in the plastic at the bottom makes me feel like I've got a firm hold on the camera. Even the grip itself feels a bit bulkier than the camera's grip, which again makes me feel like I've got a solid hold when I'm shooting portraits.
The only downside is that no matter how you cut it, the Nikon's price is just a bit higher than I think it should be. However, if you want to pay less for a 3rd party model go ahead, but at least with this grip you've got the Nikon brand and technology behind it. Also on a negative note, if you need to take the grip off the camera for any reason, it's a bit awkward to store due to the L-shape of the unit. You should also keep the plastic cap handy if you don't wish to have the contact pins bent while stored in your bag. However, most of the time you'll probably have this attached to your camera at all times--it's that nice of an accessory.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
I got the D90 and was happy with the high ISO performance and picture quality but was always disppointed with the size. It didn't feel right in my hands and this grip changes that. I can seamlessly switch between this and other cameras and the vertical grip makes a huge difference shooting sports. A welcome addition with the only con coming that the wheel can loosen itself over time

Use it for my D-90, got it to make the camera look beefier and more Pro. The camera is not a power hog, but it great not changing batteries or searching for them during a long wedding.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
The one accessory that you need for the Nikon D80 is this battery pack. Digital cameras have become smaller but for me, I like the feel of a bigger camera. The MB-D80 provides for a better grip and the extra AE/shutter release button is a plus, especially when I shoot vertical. Even though the MB-D80 battery pack can be used with one battery, I have always used two recharageable batteries. I can honestly say that I have never been on a shoot and not had enough battery power. The good thing is, if I did, I could always insert the AA battery adapter and continue the shoot. The MB-D80 handles and feels exactly like the MB-D100 that I have been using on my Nikon D100 for the last six years. The battery pack has been very dependable and I just cannot think of not using one.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
I use it the most of the time when make photoshoots or travel pictures. With two batteries, works perfect, with a very acceptable weight and constrution.
In adittion, provides U with info metering for each battery; one can see the status of the batteries in ur screen when U are using this grip.
The vertical shutter is really useful, and U can deactivate it with a dial (when u don't use it).
And! Ur camera looks really pretty with the grip mounted :)

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
The grip and power pack feels just right on the D90, more like a part of the camera instead of an add-on. Well balanced, especially with heavy lenses.

Perfect addition to the D90; balances the 2.8 lenses much better than body-only; and gives more holding options. Full function in Portrait mode unlike some 3rd party models.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
There is very little to not like about the MB-D80. It is a simple device.. not exactly rocket science. It mounts easily, it is functional, reliable and dependable.
While it does add a little extra weight, the extended battery life can be invaluable for weddings or cold weather where your battery may tank fast.
I also appreciate the balance that it gives the camera in portrait mode and find the shutter release mounted on the grip easier to reach and use.
The only *slight* annoyance is that the body color could have been a better match to the camera body color. I use it on a D90. Perhaps it was a better match to the D80. It is pretty much the only mild quip I could make about it.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
The grip adds a little weight and bulk to the camera but actually inproves the handling. It is a huge help when shooting vertically. I shoot weddings and it makes a better impression when the client sees that you have a pro camera.(even non-photograhers know the difference between a point and shoot camera and a pro camera) I can shoot an entire wedding with only one set of batteries, even when doing lots of chimping. The only negative comment is the flimsy build quality. I am very careful and gentle with my equipment so I hope this won't be much of an issue.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
Got this to go with a new Nikon D90 camera. It felt a bit heavy and cumbersome at first, but I quickly got used to it and now use it most of the time and barely notice the added weight. And I'm NOT a big stapping man with muscles to spare! However, on a ten-mile hike in the mountains it might get a bit heavy to carry.I haven't used anything other than the Nikon rechargable batteries that come with the camera in the battery pack, but wanted it to add more camera power options. The Nikon rechargable batteries have to be ordered off the internet, you can't just drop in at [...] and buy more. With this battery pack you have that option, as well as using nickel-cad rechargables. Makes your camera kit more flexible and convenient. It's probably just my imagination, but it feels like the two Nikon batteries I use with the battery pack last even longer than using them individually. The only problem I've had is the batteries running out when I didn't expect them to. I haven't found a way other than looking at the battery life in the menu to tell which of the two batteries the camera is currently using and whether they are both almost expended. That isn't clear on the LCD on top of the camera. So you have to pay close attention and make sure you have your spares charged and ready. Don't start a long photo shoot without checking the status of both batteries beforehand.I don't use the extra shutter button for portrait-oriented shots because I have to hold the camera differently than I'm used to. However, it worked the time or two I tried it. Just be sure to keep the lock button engaged if you aren't going to use the extra shutter button so you don't accidentally take pictures you didn't intend.I like the battery pack as well for the extra gripping surfaces it offers. Makes it easier to handle the camera when you're frantically trying to catch a shot and have your eyes on the subject instead of the camera. I often hold the bottom of the battery pack and lens with one hand and the side of the camera with the other to help stabilize it as I shoot almost exclusively handheld.Basically I'm very pleased so far with this purchase.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
Perfect for balancing the weight of my SB-600 flash on my D90. Makes my D90 feel more like the pro cameras without the price tag. I have small hands for a man and it is comfortable, but I wouldn't want the grip any larger. Construction seems very sturdy, but I haven't used the camera much yet.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
The 3 best features to me are:1. Actually makes the camera easier to handle, and the additonal shutter release is great when you choose to shoot vertically.2. The Batteries are used one at a time, so when one needs charging, you just use the second battery, and recharge the first. 3.The battery life indicator shows the life of each battery side by side, giving you plenty of time to get a recharge. Opps one more feature I really like. The battery door on the body must come off for the grip to be inserted. The grip has a place to store the door within the unit. Therefore you can't loose it!! [...]Best place on the net to buy camera equipment.

It works great and really extends the life of the battery. Holds 2 lithium batteries or several AA batteries. Will function with 1 lithium battery. The shutter button seems a little cheaper than the one on my D90. The dial that locks the grip to the camera can get lose, so you gotta remember to make sure it's tight.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
This really balances out the D-80 camera and gives a very good feel. Using the camera menu, you can see the remaining charge on each of the batteries, so you always know where you are with battery power. Since it uses only one battery at a time, then switches when the first one runs down, you remain powered up for a long period of time. Vertical controls are a real plus also.
Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
If you're going to spend that much money on a Nikon digital camera, why not fork out the extra $100 and something dollars for a legit Nikon battery pack? In the world of photography (cameras and lenses, etc), YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. This battery pack is essential when youre on the go or when traveling and not able to recharge your batteries as much. This battery pack allows for longer usage and ease of mind, not having to worry about your batteries running low. Contrary to most reviews, it doesnt make it "bulky". It actually allows for easier handling when shooting. For those people that say they don't like the bulkiness, well, what do you expect? Youre adding on to the camera. Look at all the pros... they have battery packs. If you're looking for smaller equipment, go buy an point-and-shoot digital camera. I would recommend this battery pack to anyone!

I got this shortly after I bought my D80. It completes the aesthetics of the camera, makes it balance better, and gives me all the juice needed to take lots a pictures(I mean alot!) with VR lenses, on board flash, etc. I have never run out of power. I can go weeks without stopping to charge even when shooting hundreds of pix a day.
The only time it comes off the camera is during servicing/cleaning. I have had mine since the D80 came out (and paid more for my MBD80) and still think its worth every penny!

ALTHOUGH, i'm used to having a Canon vertical grip, Moving to Nikon isn't that bad but the TARGUS version to fit the Nikon D-80 is a bit bulky and wide. I find i will encounter fatigue from the wider body. I have wide hands and it's too wide for me.... Maybe SHAQ would enjoy it... [...]
Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
The grip fits great in my hand and the rubber grip is so much nice than the plastic one on the D80 body. Makes vertical pictures easier to take, especially with larger lenses attached. The lock out feature seems unnecessary for all my uses.

Looks and feels great in my hands. The only draw back is the locking wheel doesnt really LOCK. It tightens and could come loose over time.
Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
I love this product! It gives your D80 a pro feel, the batteries last a very long time. Even in very COLD weather, my batteries still read full. I love that the original battery cover on the body of my D80 has a dedicated spot for storage. This way if I remove the battery grip, I would have it handy. I love the fact that if I need to, I can use AAA batteries. I shoot vertical shots often, this grip lets my hand rest naturally and my shoulder loves me for that. So, I only have two CONS, 1) I wish the wheel used to attach the grip had a lock, while the grip has not come loose, it could happen. 2) If you keep the quick release shoe (from your tripod) on the base of the grip, it gets in the way of your palm when shooting vertical and feels a bit weird. Since my shoe is metal and I shoot in very cold weather (winter), this is an issue for me. OK, my issue, but just know that you may find yourself removing the shoe often.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
This is an excellent accessory with no downside. It installs in seconds, and you can pull it off and revert to the standard camera just as fast.
The MB-D80 extends the body of the camera to fit larger hands, adds the vertical format buttons/controls found on the $$$ cameras and allows you to run off 2 batteries: shooting all day with VR lenses, I've gone 3 days and 3,000 frames w/o a recharge. It includes a rig to use alkaline AA cells, too, so if you're stuck somewhere w/o the ability to charge the Nikon cells, you just swap in the carrier, tap a button on the D-80 and you're back in action.
Someone wrote that this "completes" the D-80. I totally agree.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
I got the battery pack for more battery back up and to add a little more to my D80. Obviously the pack when loaded with both batteries makes the camera heavier but it is not a huge difference. I like the added weight, helps balance and I also enjoy the extra button and dials for vertical shooting.
Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
Easy to use, good design. My only complaint is that it doesn't perfectly match the aesthetics of the D80. The plastics aren't exactly the same, which for the price, I expected.
Oh well, as far as the utility of the MB-D80, it's great. I love the second shutter release.

This is great for taking Portrait photos. With 2 batteries one can take so many more pictures. Easy to use, and easy to hold.
Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
The battery grip adds weight and an extra shutter release (plus the two control dials), which make it easier to hold the camera steady and you don't have to have your arms in weird positions when you make a portrait picture. It holds two EN-EL3e batteries, but only uses one at a time. You use one battery until it's empty and then it switches to the next. If you don't shoot so much that you finish a battery in a day, you can have an empty battery sitting in the battery grip, and batteries don't like that. It also works with only one battery, which also takes a bit weight away.
I have the battery grip attached most of the time and only take it off when I need the camera to be a bit more compact.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
The battery pack is a great idea for extending the camera's shooting time.
Its one drawback is the wheel that is used to attach the battery pack to the camera. With extended shooting, the wheel tends to come loose, causing the loss of power to the camera. I have overcome this with the use of duct tape to keep the wheel from moving. It needs a lock to prevent the wheel from straying.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MB-D80, Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D-80 Digital Camera, Batteries Not Included:
I'm a big guy, and I like a big camera. One of the reasons I chose the Nikon D80 over a Canon Rebel was because it was larger, had more to hold on to. The MB-D80 does it for me, there's a place for my pinky to land, and a lot more camera to grip. It's useful for, although I did not buy it for shooting portrait mode with its second shutter relase and adjustment wheels, nor for its two-battery compartment for extended use without charging, although those are both pluses.
It's well made, screws into the tripod socket with a very comfortable knurled knob. I never take it off. It also allows the use of 6 AA batteries in a pinch, or alternately one or two EN-EL3's. It uses them sequentially.

This is a product I would wholeheartedly recommend. It provides the needed longevity for a days continuos shooting. It also adds balance to the smaller body of the D80. The command dials and the shutter button are perfect. The shutter button is a bit more sensitive than the one on the camera, but you soon learn to use it consistantly
