Lighter than I thought it would be. It works well, and does make vertical shooting with a longer lens much easier. While I wouldn't leave it on my camera for everything, it can be useful in the right circumstance.

I use it on an a850. It makes the camera easier to hold, not only in the vertical position, and it is very easy to remove if, for some reason, you want to lighten the load.
The camera becomes more bulky and it can be difficult to fit it into your camera bag.

If you want to have a good overall grip with the most wanted control of your A900 and a "never ending batterycharge" you should get the Sony Vertical Grip for A900.
It´s at pitty that it does not come with a wrist strap, with that it will give you a secure grip and a steady shot.
