This was my 2nd 30d. I had an inital problem w/the camera giving me an error99 message after only a few shots (accessories not compatible) regardless of what lens ,flash or cf card i used. [...] prompty issued a credit upon return and i ordered a replacement which works fantastic.Only the second time in years I've had to return an item to [...]. Coupled w/ the 430ex speedlight it is a very smart combo. The 28-135mm is lens is a great accessory. smart purchase

The Canon EOS-30D is proving to be a great D-SLR for any budding shutterbug learning how to see the world through the eyepiece. My experiences with cameras have been a point and shoot Pentax 35mm and a Sony point and shoot 3.2 MP digital. These were good starters, but can not hold a candle to the 30D.
Our package arrived just in time to take it on a trip to Dallas. I snapped about 250 pictures that weekend, some of which were at a Rangers game. I loved being able to zoom in and still get great shots. The large LCD made reviewing the shots great. It was a big improvement from the small Sony. The Camera came well packed and protected. There was enough documentation to get me started, but it did leave me yearning to learn more.
The battery life has been very impressive. I charged the battery before leaving and never had to recharge it. In fact, I never recharged the battery until three weeks later.
The camera feels good in my hands. Before buying I had looked at the XT and XTI, both good looking cameras in their own right, but they both felt cheap and too compact. The 30D’s rubberized texture gave me a good grip.
Its weight was something to get used to. As I mentioned earlier, my prior experience was with small point and shoot cameras. This one has more bulk and can get heavy. However, Canon has done a good job of balancing it out.
The controls seem very well placed. It only took a short time to get familiar with each one’s location and purpose. I am still sorting through all the manual functions. It is going to take awhile to do that. It is nice to know that I can reset the camera back to the factory original settings if I screw up and activate the wrong setting.
This camera’s ability to analyze most situations and make needed adjustments is great. My wife is not the tech minded person I am. For her, the simpler the item is to operate, the better. She used the camera to shoot some shots of the kids and me in the pool. They came out beautiful. Every shot was sharp and crisp. The water seemed to be frozen in time. Now her confidence to take good pictures has increased and I won’t be the one not in all the pictures. We can both take photos.
Overall the camera is great. I look forward to many years of great photos.
