Comments about Canon Canon PowerShot D10 Compact Digital Camera, 12 Megapixel, WaterProof to 33 Feet, 3x Optical IS Zoom:

I use this camera for underwater photography while snorkeling freshwater streams in North Carolina.
Excellent resolution- I took a picture of a fawn 50 yds away, and when I blew it up and cropped it, the photo clearly showed the deer's eyes.
Excellent for underwater subjects from macro to about 10 inches long, such as bugs and bream. But for larger subjects such as large bass and catfish, a wide angle lens is required. To shoot large subjects, you have to be several feet away so the photo lacks sharpness.
Too, the zoom is only 3x so it's hard to get a good shot of birds, compared to cameras w/ more zoom. Even so, I usually get bird photos good enough to post online by cropping down to 70K or so.
Still, its very fun to use.

Comments about Canon Canon PowerShot D10 Compact Digital Camera, 12 Megapixel, WaterProof to 33 Feet, 3x Optical IS Zoom:

Went to DPReview and this camera got the best review so I got it. Played with it at home in preparation for a trip to the Caribbean. Pretty easy to use so I felt ready to go. In Belize I put on my mask and fins and off the boat. Great water, coral and fish. After 5 minutes the display goes blank, I tinker in the water with no success. I swim back to the boat to try a spare battery. While on the boat I hear that the camera is still taking photos(I think). So back to the water and all I can do is blind point and shoot. Ends up I got some pretty good photos when I got back, but I didn't need the problems when I only had an hour or so to shoot.

I got back to the cruise ship rinsed the camera off and let it dry. The display starts working again. At the next site in Grand Cayman the display goes off again after 5 min in the water.

The camera is currently at Canon, don't know what they will do. Even if they replace it I don't think I would trust it on another trip. How do I test it when I live 500 miles from salt water. Make an ocean in my kitchen sink?

Great for hardcore outdoors snappers w/ a surprising amount of manual controls for an enthusiast who may get wet!

i will borrow it for boat shots on my next dive trip

I have recommended it to several outdoorsman snappers and they all love it!

Comments about Canon Canon PowerShot D10 Compact Digital Camera, 12 Megapixel, WaterProof to 33 Feet, 3x Optical IS Zoom:

The odd shape takes a little getting used to, but the camera is solid, image quality seems excellent, the features are great, and the four-point strap attachment turns out to be quite handy. It seemed a little slow focusing in low-light, but not unusably so. The only caveat is the zoom/wide angle buttons which are flush on the back and a little hard to locate with gloves on.

Takes REMARKABLE underwater pics. If you're tired of seeing all your snorkling photos look like cream of wheat on those disposable underwater cameras, then this camera is your answer. It is well worth the price. I was also surprised at the fantastic quality of the "land" photos AND videos. The only con is the noisy photo quality on maximum zoom, but they warn you in advance that quality drops at this level of zoom. [...] I've recommended this camera to lots of friends.

Comments about Canon Canon PowerShot D10 Compact Digital Camera, 12 Megapixel, WaterProof to 33 Feet, 3x Optical IS Zoom:

I love this little camera. It is more bulky than the other waterproof cameras on the market, but is rated to go 3x's as deep. It does great in both the video and standard modes. The only thing I do not like about this camera is that it has no lens protector!!!! Come on Canon...you could have at least tried in that department!
The kids were thrilled w/ our first underwater video....they felt like it was something out of nat.geographic! I've always wondered what it would be like to swim w/ our fishes in our saltwater tank...now we have footage that looks like we are! ---All said & done it is great fun and I do not regret my purchase.

Comments about Canon Canon PowerShot D10 Compact Digital Camera, 12 Megapixel, WaterProof to 33 Feet, 3x Optical IS Zoom:

Not a super serious photographer, but have used some cameras and know a few things about them.

This camera is good for any sort of outdoor adventure/travel snapshots.

Took a trip to Negril Jamaica and used the camera everyday. Ended up with 800 photos from a 5 day trip.

Was freaked out at first the the camera didn't have a lens cap. It appears that the glass covering the lens is replaceable if it gets scratched. Nervous about how much they're going to charge for that, but keeping it in a neoprene pouch until ready to use and then just being aware of it has safeguarded the lens so far, even after banging the body around a bit.

Pictures turned out great, especially the underwater shots. After a few tries with the flash I decided to go without to avoid the reflection off floating debris in the water. There's a term for that, but I don't recall what it is at the moment.

Still getting used to the various settings, but was able to figure them out reasonably well just by clicking around through the menus.

Has done good in dim light settings, especially sunsets.

At times the photos get a touch grainy when using the zoom. Nothing bad, but it's more noticeable when your enlarge them to full resolution on a decent monitor.

All in all, the photos turned out much better than I expected and better than most others that I've seen from friends trips.

If you want to take snapshots in various conditions, without regard for water, this is a good point and shoot to go with.

Comments about Canon Canon PowerShot D10 Compact Digital Camera, 12 Megapixel, WaterProof to 33 Feet, 3x Optical IS Zoom:

I'm not sure why Canon d10 movie format is set at .mov file. Most users are PC users with software applications using .avi movie files. There is not an option to shot movie other than .mov. You would need an another application to covert .mov to .avi.

Other than that, its a great camera.

Controls are easy to use and the large screen makes it easy to see pictures in bright light. Took the camera to the beach and went into the surf to take pictures of the kids. Slow shutter speed a real issue. You need to anticipate each shot (action of waves crashing, etc) and you don't always get what you want.
