Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
This lens competes well... quite well with the Canon 100-400mm IS lens. The optics are great and the focus fast and accurate, sometimes too accurate. What I mean by that is that one has to be careful that exactly what one wants in the main focus is in the cross hair as it will focus in front or behind the subject if care is not taken. I generally take advantage of the AF override. I let the AF focus then I tweak it with the manual focus ring which is positioned in a great place at the rear of the lens, unlike most lenses. The focal length adjustment is in the front of the lens, I love it.
The lens may be heavy, but not much more than the Canon 100-400mm, and it is balanced extremely well as to not feel as heavy.
Picture quality is excellent. Glad I chose this this over the Canon 100-400mm, especially for the cost savings.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
After reading reviews online about this lens, I was pretty sure that this lens would be a good one to add to my collection. The reviewers compared this to the out-of-date Canon 100-400mm lens and most of them had to force themselves to make a decision about which one was better (which is pretty good when comparing the price of the canon to that of the sigma). However, the pictures that I took with this lens were not nearly as clear as the ones that I took with my Canon 28-135mm. This was disappointing so I got a 100-400mm into my hands, took a few pictures and compared the two lenses. That is when I came to my conclusion - the lens is unpredictable. There are a few pictures that I have with my sigma that are far sharper than the Canon and others that are far softer than the Canon. This is probably a problem with the auto-focus system of the Sigma (Sigma is well known for their auto-focus problem). Also, I could have just gotten a lemon of a lens (those can make a huge difference and they very much exist, the favorite lens of a famous wildlife photographer is used as a paperweight for somebody else). Overall, good image quality, bad auto-focus system.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
Kept this lens on a 40D while on a safari in May 2010 and was very happy with the sharpeness & detail this lens captured. (Hubby used a Rebel w/wide angle canon lens) I did not take a tri-pod and mostly shot from the top of the Land Cruiser using a beanbag. Kept the image stablilizer on at all times and even captured some great hand held photos. No complaints about the focal points either. I was amazed to see the fine details of animal eyelashes & fur past 300mm. Even able to track BIF.
Shots taken during low light conditions(early am & late pm)are satisfactory but this lens absolutely shines with more available light!
Yes, it's heavier than what most people are used to but I'm not complaining! Good glass is what takes great pictures.
Overall, great lens for the money!! This is my only non-Canon lens but I couldn't justify the cost for probably a one-time event and I don't regret it.

I'm still learning. I think I need some pointers from the more experienced photographer. I have a hard time keeping the lens steady with my monopod. I'm open for suggestions...THANKS.[@]

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
I used the 120-400 lens at the Yankees & Marlins game sitting in the outfield. The lens is great, it's locking feature on the zoom barrel is great. The glass is top quality and with my 50D it shot some spectacular exposures. I also liked that it comes complete with a lens hood, strap and case. The only thing i found was when shooting motion the lens had a small problem keeping up .

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
Just got mine from Adorama yesterday, I was out today and took about 140 shots. Yes the lens was heavy but it has a sharp focus, good clarity at 400mm. I use it with my Canon 50D and love it already! Looks like a fixture on the camera. I remove the tripod collar and found it easy to hold and adjust the lens.

I have only had this lens for 3 weeks or so. I use this lens for photographing birds. This is a very heavy lens but so far it is great. Fast focus but a bit soft on the edges. I like it!

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
I just purchased this lens 3 weeks ago and am very happy with it. I know it is rugged as I dropped it within the 1st week but it never missed a beat. The image stabilizer works just fine and the auto focus is nice and sharp. The only complaints I have are its weight and auto focus is a little fussy in low light, but the so are 2 of my Canon lenses. Overall a great lens.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
I am an intermediate level DSLR user who's still learning photography. To me, it's a great lens to own at this price. I use it basically for sports action and wildlife photography.
The OS feature is superb. Is a little slow and u may miss a few shots but at this price no one should complain. What are a few missed shots anyways...
It's worth all the money. Planning to buy a teleconverter too.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Cameras:
I bought this lens 3 weeks ago and it is a incredible lens for the price. I made some comparisons shots between my Canon 70-200mm F4 and it is comparable image quality. The OS work very well and images are sharp even at 400mm at F5.6. I definitely recommend this lens to all action/sports and birds pictures. I am sure the 150-500 have same image quality. Go buy it.
(I was looking for Tamron 200-500, Canon 100-400, Tokina 80-400)
