Ok now just so you know I do not use this lens for my paid shoots but rather use my Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. I have installed this lens on my general use Nikon D300 that I bum around with. I must say though I am liking this lens so far. It does zoom the wrong way which gets a little weird but overall it is a nice lens for half the price as my Nikon.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:

I got this lens together with my Nikon D90 camera. The first time I saw the lens I told myself...Wow...this lens looks great! It really is very well made for its price range. It looks much more expensive then what it is.
Optically its a mix bag as all 11x zooms are. From 18-70mm more or less its excelent, then all of a sudden sharpness drops all the way to about 125mm where its consistent all the way to 200mm.It seems that the lens was design to be optically good at the extremes of its range,18mm and 200mm Where its less sharp its still decent, not overly soft nor anything like that.
Colors are wonderfully reproduced as mostly all sigma lenses do,with a warm cast to it thats very aluring. In low light sometimes it tends to hunt for the focus which is understandable being it a very long zoom with not very open apertures.
When new it did not have lens creep but after having used it for a while everytime I forget to lock the lens,(it has a lock to avoid lens creep) it extends by itself when upside down.
One thing that I really like is the OS system.I can shoot hand held all the way to 2oomm at 1/30 which would be totally imposible for me if it weren't for the OS feature of the lens. After having used an optically stabilized lens there's no going back.I would not buy a long zoom lens without it.
Other lenses from other manufacturers might be better at some things but taking into consideration its construction and quite good optical performance together with OS and its price its a winner.Almost forgot, its distortion caracteristics are very good for this type of lens, barrel and pin distortions are very well controled and cromatic aberrations are almost none existent. It is prone to some flare which using the supplied hood a necesity when shooting at a very sunny day.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:

This is a typical do anything, but nothing well kind of lens. I bought it for my gal because she wanted to try a super ratio zoom. What a mistake. We got rid of it. I am suprised that people claiming to be pros or semi-pros would consider such. The purpose of an SLR is to have interchangeable lenses so you can apply the best task for the job. Sacrificing quality for convenience is like going back to a point and shoot.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:

This has been a great walk-around lens on my Nikon D40, replacing the 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses in my camera bag. Pictures are as sharp and colorful as with the Nikon lenses that came with the camera. I like the lock that keeps the lens from creeping out, which is especially important since I use the BlackRapid R-Strap. My only complaints are that the lens is a bit heavy and there's a bit of hesitation when zooming in and out. It could be a bit smoother. (BTW, the R-Strap minimizes my complaint about the weight. Get the R-Strap!).

Comments about Sigma Sigma 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:

I bought this lens specifically for a recent trip to London and Paris. I had travelled abroad in the past and was severely disappointed with the results from my Sony point and shoot, and decided I would upgrade to an entry level Nikon SLR D40X and upgrade the 50mm lens.

I began comparing reviews between the Sigma and Nikon lenses and became concerned when I read some complaints about the Sigma's weight, battery drain and glass quality. All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't listen to those reviews. The lens is fantastic and accomplishes everything I could want in a lens for a great price. I carried this camera in a Crumpler bag along with an SB-600 flash, my point and shoot Sony, plus accessories, and never felt any shoulder strain from the weight. There simply wasn't any noticeable additional battery drain. In two weeks of constant shooting I only recharged once. Regarding glass quality... give me a break! If you can tell a difference between Nikon and Sigma's glass quality then you shouldn't be buying lenses, you should be making them.

Even if you don't name your kid Sigma, you'll never regret buying this lens.

I use this lens as my everyday lens. I have alot of grandkids and they are involved in sports. Have used in basketball gyms but must turn iso up to high or adjust exposure comp, so pictures are to grainy. This is not the lens fault through. It will stop all motion and forcus is very good. For what it is intended for it is a very good lens.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:

I read review after review about this lens vs the Nikon 18-200mm lens. I has 3 concerns: The zoom creep on the Nikon (Sigma has a lock), The constant negative rumers about Sigma quality control (I have 3 other Sigma Lenses and am impressed with the sharpness, focus and build quality on each of them including this Sigma 18-200 OS lens. The other concern was the slower speed at 200mm. As it turns out I don't shoot much at 200mm in low light. It's not as sharp as a prime lens, but is way better than the Nikon 18-55 kit lens. I have shot over 700 photos with this lens (none with a tripod as the OS really works) I have included 2 photos shot with this lens

Comments about Sigma Sigma 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:

This is the best lens with this great range of focal lengths that we have seen. It is great for travel, although a bit heavy. It is sharper at 200mm (300mm in 35mm talk) than other lenses we have used. The optical stabilization is a plus.

We prefer it to the Nikon 18-200 because Nikon omitted the distance scale on the focusing ring and we like the metal to metal mounting of the Sigma better than the plastic mount on the Nikon.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:

I bought this lens for use as a general purpose/walkaround lens on a D200. I opted for the Sigma over the Nikon 18-200 mostly due to price. I have been pleasantly surprised by the image quality/sharpness of this lens, especially in close-ups at the long end. The HSM AF is very fast and accurate, though maybe not quite as fast as Nikon's AF-S lenses. I haven't tested the lens in low light so I can't say how effective the Optical Stabilization is, or how it compares to Nikon's VR lenses. Image quality has to be compromised somewhat in order to cover this wide a focal range, but all-in-all I think I'll get plenty of good images that I would miss with other lenses due to not enough (or too much) focal length. I tend to get buyer's remorse after buying anything relatively expensive, but I have no regrets over buying this lens.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:

I purchased this lens in July '07. At first I was not very happy with it and seriously considered returning it. I have been mostly using a Canon EF 28-300mm F3.5-5.6 L IS USM on my 5D and the Sigma lens only fits my 10D. So it took awhile to get used to using the older camera with the Sigma lens. And the Sigma lens is not really in the same class as the Canon L lens. After toting the Canon L lens around the US and Europe for the past year though, I wanted to try a lighter configuration. Anyway, after some practice with it, I think my results have improved dramatically. Keeping in mind that this is an inexpensive all around lens, and you can not expect perfect results from an all around lens in any price range, I'm pretty happy with it. The benefits are: 1) it is small and travels well, I don't have to pack an extra bag just for camera equipment, 2) it is lightweight and doesn't wear you out during a full day of shooting, and 3) it doesn't attract as much attention as the big white Canon L lenses. The OS works very well, although not as well as the Canon IS function. The AF is a bit slower than L lenses, but not bad. The 6.3 apeture on the long end of the lens results in slightly dark images at full zoom, but I have found that photoshop curves easily corrects this most of the time. I know a lot of photogs are critical of those of us that like to use an all around lens, but if you are looking for this type of lens, then I feel comfortable recommending it. [...]
