I had no intention of paying this much for an everyday bag but I am glad I did. This bag is great. It is light and it is very easy to load and unload. The strap is comfortable for a shoulder bag and it is easily adjusted. The padding is adequate for a casual everyday bag. I would not use this bag hiking or any other activity that would require maximum protection. This is just a simple good looking bag for casual use. I currently pack my D90 with 5 lenses, SB-600 flash, filters, lens hoods and everything else you need for a day of shooting with room to spare.

I love this bag! I have read reviews that it doesn't have a lot of padding. It doesn't need it if you take care when you are using the bag. Who doesn't? Who throws the bag on the floor with their camera and equipment in it? I used it this last weekend when I flew to Montana. I took the dividers out, set my camera body on the bottom, with my 70-300 lens on it. I also packed my handbag in with the camera. I loaded it down with my battery charger, my power cord for my laptop and a few other things. This bag took it all. A plus is it looks great. The strap is great...it doesn't slip off your shoulder. I can't think of anything I didn't like. I have had other bags and they were made for my particular camera and they don't hold a candle to this bag.

I kinda feel bad for trashing this bag - because I really wanted to like it. I have quite a few other bags, and my main concern about Domke's were that they seemed to offer very poor protection of your gear in real-life use. They looked flimsy and poorly padded etc. But then again, after reading the other raving review after another - I figured I'd might just give it a go.

So, first off - it looks great, no denying that. The waxwear coating and general style of the bag is simply very cool indeed. Unfortunately, my good experience with this bag ends here...

The cons --->
Poorly padded. The inside sides of the bag offer no padding at all - just thin canvas. I'll take Domke's word on that it's rainproof, but that's about it. I took this bag to an outside job, and it was very icey - and let me tell you, I've never been so concerned about my feet slipping on the ice, ever. If that bag had fallen onto the ground if my feet slipped, I can't imagine what probably would have happened to the 85mm 1,2 and 50 mm 1.2 that was inside - espicially if it hit the ground at one of the less padded sides. Also, the bottom-padding seems pretty weak.

I mean, I have read about people bringing this to the Sahara - but now I'm just starting to think that's just an urban legend, hehe. Even with the flap locked as tight as I can, I wouldn't even consider bringing expensive gear in this to a beach-shot for example.

As for the "padded" insert - what is up with not being able to even SLIGHTY customize the interior? Your only option is to move the padded insert left or right - in my case, I just pushed it to one side so I could have my camera beside it, while having 2 flashes and 2 lenses in the insert. This also resulted in that the only thing between the icy pavement and my camera was a few mm's of canvas.

I'm giving this 2 stars, and in despite of shallow that sounds - it's only because of the good looks ^^

Unless you only plan on using this in the park on sunny days, or weddings(if the weather isn't too bad)- I would recommend staying clear of this one. I'm not gonna upgrade my insurance to the "Idiot-proof"-plan, just to be able to use this on work-assignments.

Adorama has loads of other great bags, and I will be buying another one in roughly the same size, since I miss a medium sized bag.

The Domke F-2 is the original design and still the best. Perfect size and ergonomics for photographers. The Waxwear finish gives the bag a "broken in" look and feel, while offering bad weather protection. I've used the F-2 for years and feel it's the best medium-sized photo bag made by any manufacturer. I highly recommend the Waxwear finish.

Very versatile bag, absolutely great for smaller film camera's. Good for Digital setups as well, but not with a large lens attached. It's smaller than it looks in the pictures, but still holds a decent amount due to the lack of padding and bulk.

This bag is a perfect size to keep all my gear. I have two smaller Domke bags that I also use for different situation. I love this Waxwear bag and it's color. The Waxwear bag was priced a little higher than I wanted to pay but worth having at the extra cost for what was put into it. The look and different canvas feel on this Domke bag is great.

I used a hard pelican camera case for dive photo travel, now saving 14# of weight still carrying the same amount of camera gear.

Domke makes great, basic bags. No lensgates, digital wallets or all-weather hoods, just a simple bag with a simple insert. This bag actually feels lighter and is definitely softer than a regular F2. The color is a much better shade than the doo-doo colored chocolate bag, and I suspect it will fade fairly well, as do all Domke bags that aren't ballistic. The strap is a newer design with 2 clips instead of 1... don't know why yet. Still don't know about the ointment that comes with it... haven't used it enough. Went on a wedding with it, and though the "wax" rubs off and makes the bag feel like it has some dirt on it, there were no effects on my clothes.
