I first purchased a Kaiser retriever but had very little luck with it. I followed its directions to a tee and it still managed to mangle a couple of my rolls. I went back to the store and picked up one of these and it worked without a hitch the first time.
I keep it in an empty film canister as an added measure to prevent it from being bent but it is thick enough that it should not require any special treatment. This is yet another case of utilitarian design and no-nonsense form trumping modern design and materials. Don't waste your money on the much more expensive Kaiser. This one does the job perfectly.

Simple design. Intuitive, easy to use. Also easy to lose; buy several, they're cheap.

You need to read the instructions in order to use it properly, don't just assume that you know how to do it because of it's simplistic look and feel.
