I got 2 of these to hold my flashes and umbrellas. They do the job, but feel weak. Even though they are holding just flashes and an umbrella, it makes me question if it won't collapse. But at 1/2 the cost, they do the job.

Comments about Adorama Adorama Pro 10' Air Cushioned Chrome Lightstand, 5/8" Top Stud with 1/4-20" Screw Thread:

Is a great lightstand for flash photography. I tried using it as a background stand one day and it was not sturdy enough. If you plan to use this with studio strobes I would recommend not using them above 5-6 feet.

They are not chrome they are aluminum only the mount at the top is chrome. This is an advantage and a disadvantage. If they were chrome they would weigh 3x as much and be 5x as sturdy. Being aluminum they are not as sturdy but are easy to drag around town with you all day which is what I wanted.

These are decent quality and a good value for the price. I am generally pretty easy on my equipment and try to take care of things. I am also not using these every day. If you are hard on your equipment you probably would be better off spending more money. These have plastic clamps on the slides but I have had no problems with them. All in all I am happy with my purchase.

Comments about Adorama Adorama Pro 10' Air Cushioned Chrome Lightstand, 5/8" Top Stud with 1/4-20" Screw Thread:

This was part of a flashpoint kit, The first 2 I received were broken at the plastic on the base. I do not feel comfortable using these to hold the mono lights more than a couple feet off the floor. They are fine for my sb800s and umbrella.

On the plus side I sent them back to Adorama at their expense and within a few days had replacements no questions. So even though I'm not wild about the stands and would not buy them for my work. I will look again to Adorama for other purchases.

These have gone through a half dozen set ups and tear downs so far. No problems. They are rather light, and a tad bit weak (I can't imagine taking them all the way up to 10' with heavy lights on top) but a good solid value. I use 20 lb sand bags on the base and it keeps my comfort level in check.

These light stands are very nice for the price. They work smoothly. They are not very wide at the base, so they will fall over easily if you're using umbrellas or anything large outdoors. They are perfect for indoor/studio use. The air cushioned feature is nice. The hardware is a little on the cheaper side, but they do operate smoothly and easily, but go easy on it.

Used in conjunction with on-camera flash and with multiple strobes set up in slave mode, you will create lighting like I do in the studio without schlepping all the heavy strobe packs and batteries. This is a great substitute when clients demand a quick response without the necessary set-up time or the location does not allow all your equipment. Yes, you can attach sand bags for weight in light winds.

I purchased these to use as background stands. They are very lightweight, but are able to hold the background (10 x 12 muslin). I think they could take plenty of weight, but the stands, when extended to full height, tend to sway more than I would like. I also own photoflex's standard light stands, and the photoflex stands feel a little more steady. The Adorama stands have a tighter build quality. I do like the air cushion, but it never bothered me that my other stands lack this feature.

Bought this as part of a kit with a strobe light. It does the job, even with a relatively heavy strobe & umbrella attached. Have had this in it's almost highest position, and it does sway slightly there, but it needs a fair bump to risk tipping it over. If I'd need to use this outside I would definately use some sandbags or other weight to prevent the wind from picking it up.

Comments about Adorama Adorama Pro 10' Air Cushioned Chrome Lightstand, 5/8" Top Stud with 1/4-20" Screw Thread:

I have several of these light stands. They have a wide extension range (10') and support a monolight well. The air cushioning feature is a slight "safety" feature -- in case the adjustment slips, the light won't come crashing down. Their strong point is VALUE for the $$.On the downside, the air cushion makes it take a little longer to close down the light stand. This is NOT a heavy-duty light stand; it has plastic fittings that can break or wear out easily, so it's great for the hobbyist or backup stand for a pro, but not a stand a pro would want to depend upon to be set up and taken down day-in, day-out. Out of half a dozen of these stands, I've had one locking collar snap (so it only extends up to 7' or so, now, still usable) [...]This stand works great for a monolight. I've also used pairs of them to support light (e.g cloth) backgrounds, but would not recommend using them to support heavy rolls of paper background (I just tried it with a 12-yard roll of 107" background paper ... I was nervous about raising it more than about 6'-7' off the ground [too tippy] with these stands).

Looks like it's a winner. Seems solid and stable. Heck, it's a stand, not much to say. Good enough to give me high confidence in other "house brand" Adorama products.

Comments about Adorama Adorama Pro 10' Air Cushioned Chrome Lightstand, 5/8" Top Stud with 1/4-20" Screw Thread:

The light stand seems to be nicely built for the price. The finish is not Chrome as the title suggests - it is just plain aluminum. Not a big deal, but I thought I received the wrong item since the description clearly says Chrome. More disturbing is that the 1/4-20 screw thread is not 1/4-20. This bothers me because I wanted the flexiblity to attach a normal camera flash on the stand using this thread. The actual thread is much larger and will not work with a standard camera flash.

Lightweight and easy to carry around, but that comes with it not being stable when extended. I've had several occasions where my lights have almost tipped over (these lights were the Flashpoint Monolights that were sold with the stand.

I have bought a number of these lightstands, because of their reliability and smooth performance. I use them for lights, reflectors, as well as backdrop supports, because they are easy to transport and will set up without a hitch in all environments. The 10' hight makes them practical for most applications.

I've had this stand for several months now and it has worked very well for me. I have mounted a 42" reflector to it and had no problems with stability (inside only). I am currently thinking of buying a second for to put a light on.

Comments about Adorama Adorama Pro 10' Air Cushioned Chrome Lightstand, 5/8" Top Stud with 1/4-20" Screw Thread:

I just received three of these after reading the positive reviews. I have one set up for a strobe and two for reflectors for a convenient, light-weight portrait setup. I was in the process of setting them up for the third time today and one of the plastic pieces connecting the leg braces to the center column snapped rendering the stand useless. I don't have any experience with other types of lightstands but I am definitely going to be shopping around for something more durably built.

Comments about Adorama Adorama Pro 10' Air Cushioned Chrome Lightstand, 5/8" Top Stud with 1/4-20" Screw Thread:

I recently broke the modeling globe on my studio lights when I didn't tighten the screw on a non air-cushioned light stand properly.

I have since replaced my light stands with this and haven't had any issues.
I've got a portrait studio setup at the local markets, and the Adorama Air Cushioned Lightstand is strong, reliable and very well priced. I've used it to setup studio strobes + umbrella, or hot shoe (580ex) lights + umbrella, and also attached the reflector holder and reflector.

I highly recommend this light stand for any portable lighting setup.

I like the air-cushioning, but don't extend them too high with heavier lights. You may not be to happy with what happens.

I purchased two of these stands and they work fine. They're not beefy, pro-level stands but they look like they'll stand up to hobbyist and semi-pro abuse. I use them to support a 580EX and 30" umbrella and the stand works great - solid and not tippy. I also use them to support a cross beam and backdrop for portrait photography.

Comments about Adorama Adorama Pro 10' Air Cushioned Chrome Lightstand, 5/8" Top Stud with 1/4-20" Screw Thread:

I would call these stands "high performance / lightweight". They work well in a studio (hard floor and no wind). The base gives them enough support without taking up too much space. Time will tell if the plastic pieces hold up.
For location work I would prefer something heavier duty like the Bogan master stand but remember that the master is heavier to carry and to pay for as well.

This is a solid heavyweight light stand tht supports my monolight and umbrella well. There is no worry about the unit tipping over. While I haven't tried it (yet) it seems heavy duty enough to support a background.
