This unit will soften harsh light from flash. Attaches easily to flash with velcro. Folds flat for storage.

Works great. caution like the company states it can disrupt the camera infared sensor if mounted on the camera. I got around this by tilting the flash-head up one click to clear the sensor. sometimes you may have to adjust the zoom a little also why focusing. other than that it works great. also don't forget to power up the flash because you will lose 1 f/stop shooting through the material.

Good change from umbrella ( either bounce or shoot through).

This acts just the way the LumiQuest web site said it should. Beware that it covers the flash's light sensor, so it cannot be used on a master flash (great for slave flashes).

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest SoftBox III - 8" x 9" Surface:
Pros:
1- It's made from some very good material which makes it very sturdy when it's mounted on your flash.
2- The amount of diffusion it makes is very good for the size, much much better than a flash alone or with small diffusers.
3- Foldable and lightweight, can be easily carried in almost any bag, 9" X 8" space required.
4- Won't take more than 5 seconds to set it up or take it of the flash.
Cons:
1- The soft box attaches to speedlight by velcro adhesive tape!! which means your flash will permanently have Velcro pads all over it. Well some people don't mind it, but i would have preferred if it could be attached using something removable like a special ring or something, cause when it's off flash it really makes the speedlight looks funny and not professional. But again the Velcro is what makes it very easy and fast to set it up and remove it.
2- It's not very difficult to set it up but the provided manual was a useless piece of paper.

This is a nice little light mod. It's well made and attaches easily to all my speedlites, which are different sizes. The diffusion material is also well designed to give a nice even light spread.

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest SoftBox III - 8" x 9" Surface:
Over the past year, I have been using speedlights in more and more situations. The LumiQuest softboxes have proven to be very good diffusers. They fold up flat, take up very little space and weigh almost nothing. Yet they are durable and I have not had one tear. You can get better diffusion with something like the Lastolite speedlight softboxes but they are much larger and involve more effort to set up and handle. If you want something that goes on quick and can be used on camera or off, the LumiQuest are a great compromise. The softbox attaches by velcro and comes with adhesive velcro pads for the speedlight. If you don't want to permanently attach these to your speedlight, the LumiQuest softboxes work fine with a Honl speed strap.

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest SoftBox III - 8" x 9" Surface:
I used this as if it were a mini-softbox with emphasis on the word mini. I bought it for a project photographing small objects in a tight space. It worked well for this after fastening a white piece of paper over the dead center of its face (for extra diffusion).
If you're photographing a relatively small subject like a slice of bread, and can move the light source in close to the subject, this will soften shadows nicely. It is MUCH better than Speedlite alone, but does have limited range.
I like that the unit is small and durable. I'll likely take it along wherever I bring my Speedlite. It's quick and easy to setup, and can be used in crowds and tight spaces.
This would probably make a good fill light, to fill in shadows when photographing a human face from a short distance, but I never tried it.
I thought this was a pretty good value. It's not a major investment, but can save the day if you know when to use it.

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest SoftBox III - 8" x 9" Surface:
very good for close up shots where you cannot bounce the flash
when the flash is mounted on a custum rotating flash bracket using a nikon d 300 the softbox III does not block the
camera sensors ,and you can use TTL metering

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest SoftBox III - 8" x 9" Surface:
Fits easily into any bag as it folds flat. The light output is great as long as you can use it close in. Further away, it loses its diffusing effects. Very nicely build and works great with my DIY speed straps. No need for permanent velcro on your speedlites.

Works Great, a lot softer light than expected. I might be breaking out the shoot thru umbrella a bit less.

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest SoftBox III - 8" x 9" Surface:
I have already owned a Gary Fong lightshpere, actually two, and was looking for something that would allow me to direct my flash while still providing diffusing properties. This product does allow you to "point" the softbox @ your subject or change flash angle for lighting variations, unlike the lightshpere. I do however like the Gary Fong product better in terms of consistency and overall appearance. still some visible "hotspots" on certain exposurers with Lumiquest product. Lumiquest product does however fold completely making it much easier to carry in my crowded bag vs bending the Gary Fong up as much as possible and stuffing into a corner which never seems to work. Having both is ideal in my opinion if you have the cash-o-la
