Arca Swiss heads are probably the best. There are Chinese made ball heads that are knock offs that might come close. If you want a quality product and price is no object, this is your product.

I needed this head in time for a project. My previous tripod head failed and I needed this one in time to do the job. Luckily I had another back-up, but I did not want to use it. [...]

Easily functions with my 400mm 2.8 + Nikon D3x on Gitzo Series 3. Also works well with Wimberley Sidekick.

Just had to have the one that the system is named after.

Absolutely none of the problems with older B1 that I read about.

I've used an Arca-Swiss B1 for years, and recently purchased the Z1. Same smooooth, fluid action and reliable tension control, in a smaller package. I HIGHLY recommend Arca-Swiss monoball to any serious photographer. Treat it right and it will reward you for years to come. I use L-Brackets on my camera bodies, and it is quick and easy to attach/remove. Once you set the tension for your lens/body combo, it is ridiculously simple to recompose. Very stable.

Like this ballhead a lot and I have owned quite a few before. No creep at all! One thing to consider is the long quick release bolt, the flip lock version is closer to the body, but maybe more prone to errors.
