Comments about Slik Slik SBH-100 Ball Head, for Compact Point-and-Shoot Digital and Film Cameras, Maximum Load 3.5 Lbs.:
One selling point is that base can rotate independent of ball joint for easy horizontal panning. In real use this is difficult to do because to rotate easily one has to loosen the ball clamp which in turn means you might loose positioning of your optical equipment. Ideally a separate tightener for base should be added. Otherwise it is a fine product and I like the large lever handle and tabs on mount for tightening.

Pros Small, compact, sturdy, light & well made. Easy to tighten due to large clamp knob and tabs on mount.
Cons Base 360 swivel is not as useful as might be because in order to have ease of movement the ball clamp must be loosen which might then affect camera position. Base tightness should be independent of ball joint.

I use the SBH-100 on my Leki monopod/walking stick with my Nikon D-40. It works great on hikes, especially in low light, allowing me to shoot at slower shutter speeds than I would hand-held. It also comes in handy shooting indoors, too, when I can't use a tripod. The ballhead gives me practically an infinite range of angles, and adjusts smoothly. The only time I've had trouble with slippage is when I haven't tightened the ballhead to the camera properly.

I've attached this to my monopod and use it for a small Canon A520. It works very well and allows me more options of framing with the monopod. Used together, it gives me terrific stability, sharp photos without carrying and setting up a tripod.
