I use this when I travel and not sure if I needed a tripod. It's lightweight and easy to cary all day. It has saved the just perfect shot when I didn't plan on bringing a full size tripod.

The gorrilapod works just as promised. The legs are even stronger then I anticipated and stay the shape you make them, granted I shoot with a rebel and lighter lenses. Also makes simple floor level shots a breeze in addition to the endless places you mount it.
