Film Noir is characterized by beautiful styling, rich black and white, and carefully crafted hard light. One of the quintessential lighting effects of film noir is patterned light coming through the Venetian blinds in a detective’s office with hard rim/hair light. Its dramatic, cinematic, and… it can be achieved with natural light!
Yes, in the movies they use high power constant light sources but in this instance, you need three key ingredients: Venetian blinds, sunlight, and a silver reflector.
