Blue sky days can make for very bad location portraits, especially if you have to shoot in harsh sunlight. But with battery powered flashes becoming ever more powerful, it’s never been easier to overpower the ambient and create great photos.

In this video Gavin Hoey tests three portable flashes ranging from a small speedlight to a full sized 600ws studio flash, to see which performs best on location. The results might surprise you!
