Fujifilm today unleashed the Fujifilm X-E3, the company’s first mirrorless interchangeable-lens compact camera with 4K video capture, 24MP resolution, and Bluetooth connectivity, in black and silver bodies. Fuji also unveiled a new 80mm Macro lens for the X-series, and a wide-angle 45mm lens for its medium-format G-series cameras.
Fujifilm X-E3 Key Features
- 24.3MP X-Trans CMOS III Sensor
- X-Processor Pro image processing engine
- 1.04 million dot Touch Function LCD monitor
- 4K video
- Video output to external monitor via HDMI port
- External mic jack
- Claimed AF acquisition of 0.06 sec
- Large Phase Detection AF
The X-E3, which features an eye-level EVF and touch-screen operation, offers improved resolution over its 16MP predecessor, the Fujifilm X-E2s. The X-E3 shares many of the features of the X-Pro II, including the same 24MP sensor and image processor, and a top native ISO of 12,800, expandable to 51,200. An all-new “Touch Function” feature lets you use gesture controls like “Flick” or “Pinch-Zoom” to look at or navigate your pictures.
In addition to its higher resolution for both still and video capture, the X-E3 is the first X-series model from Fujifilm to include Bluetooth technology. This lets you pair the camera with your smartphone or mobile tablet for transferring your images or operating the camera.
Fujifilm has a large phase-detection AF area, and has also tweaked its AF algorithm to optimize the camera’s ability to track moving subjects. Fuji claims a resulting AF acquisition speed of 0.06 seconds.
The Fujifilm X-E3 will be available from Adorama starting September 28, in the following configurations:
- X-E3 Body only in Black or Silver, $899.
- X-E3 with XF 18-55mm lens in Black or Silver, $1,299
- X-E3 with XF23mm f/2 WR lens in Black or Silver, $1,149
A Metal Hand Grip ( at Adorama) and Bottom Leather Case () will also be available .
Fujifilm Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro lens
The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro lens is a wide-aperture prime lens with a unique Front/Rear focus group configuration and Stabilization of up to 5 stops. The lens has an optical construction of 16 elements in 12 groups, including one aspherical lens, one Super ED lens, and three ED lenses, to reduce or eliminate internal reflections and optical aberrations.
The lens provides the equivalent of a 122mm lens on a 35mm camera, and is the first X-series lens to offer a 1:1 magnification for true macro photography. Hand-held images are possible even at 1:1, thanks to gyro and acceleration sensors which work together to achieve up to 5 stops of image stabilization.
A floating focus system divides the focus lens groups into a “Front Focus Group” and a “Rear Focus Group”. The group that is set in motion depends on the shooting distance. Fujifilm says this configuration will lead to greater accuracy. The front element has fluorine coating to prevent smudges, and the lens body is protected against rain and dust.
The Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro lens is compatible with the Fujifilm XF1.4x and XF2.0x tele converters. It is expected to be available sometime in November from Adorama for $1,199.
Fujifilm Fujinon GF 45mm f/2.8 R WR Lens
The Fujifilm Fujinon GF 45mm f/2.8 R WR Lens is a wide-angle lens designed for the Large Format, 51MB Fujifilm GFX mirrorless camera. Compact and lightweight, this lens is well-suited for high-resolution documentary or street photography.
Weather and dust resistant, this relatively light lens can be used in temperatures down to -10 degrees C. The Nano GI coating reduces ghosting and flare. The aperture ring has a C position (command dial mode) on the camera body that allows the lens aperture value to be changed to suit the photographer’s preference. A locking mechanism has been added to the A (Auto) and C positions to prevent unintended movements of the aperture dial. Finally, the lens is said to have built-in image stabilization.
The Fujifilm Fujinon GF 45mm f/2.8 R WR Lens is expected to be available in November from Adorama for .
