This Mexican -made bass captures the look, playability and sound of a late 1950s P-Bass. It is very well built and shares the exact same bridge, anodised pick guard, knobs, ,’reverse’ tuners and strap buttons as its twice as expensive US-built ‘Original Series’ P-bass. The electronics are the same as fitted to an American Standard Precision with plastic coated wiring. Finish is polyurethane but is well done and doesn’t ‘strangle’ the sound one bit. Regarding sound, this model holds its own very well with more expensive models of Vender P-basses. The maple board one-piece neck with walnut insert at rear looks authentic and this neck, while chunky to some hands, is very comfortable and the whole thing is reassuringly solidly built. However the range of colours available is severely limited. Mine is in the now-deleted Fiesta Red. This bass is quite likely the best value that Fender does, given its price to quality ratio. The ‘Classic Series’ 50s P-Bass is a very competent professional-level instrument and will not fail to deliver. Well worth a look for anyone seeking a new Fender Precision Bass, it really is that good.
