Have been using Pentax cameras since the ME and MX.  Never has been disappointed, the K-3 II is an amazing camera well worth the money.  In addition with the battery grip it fits the hand well and can be carried in a Tamrac 515 case.

Excellent resolution and ease of use

Great camera for general photography.  Pretty good for sports which is why I bought it since I have all Pentax lenses.  Still learning as some of the settings that I used with my K5 are not as sharp as I want for sports. Still would recommend for anyone who is not ready for a full-frame upgrade.

Pentax K3 II Pro-Bundle

I can tell is a fantastic camera even with the limited number of outings I've had with it.  I tried it with a used Asahi f2.8 28mm manual macro lens that I picked up years ago and hadn't really used.  As you'll see in the photos, the flowers and leaves are quite stunning (they are to me anyway).  The stop-action waterfall photo is equally gorgeous.  

The only reason I didn't give it a rating of five stars is that I haven't used it enough yet.

Beautiful Photos are Easy to Take

The camera K3II takes great pictures.  However, I am not sure about the Ricoh Pentax company.  My K50 also took great pictures, but then started taking dark pictures or could not focus.  I did not know where to send it for repairs until after I bought the K3II.  I wanted another camera for my upcoming trip.  I had my K-50 fixed and found out that there is an "aperture control magnet" problem with the K-30, K-50, K-70, K-3, 645-7 cameras.  With so many cameras with the same problem, it should, in my opinion, be covered by an extended warranty.  The part is only about $10, but the camera had to be taken apart to fix it.  I also asked the repair shop to service my camera.  It again takes great pictures.  I am pretty sure Pentax cameras and lenses are a great value, however, I have no experience with Nikon or Canon.  I hope my K3II does not develop this or any other problem because I do like it.

The camera K3II takes great pictures

Great camera for portrait and landscapes, and so-so for sports, the features for the money are amazing, I wish canon or nikon did that, but then they would sell it for 3x more, I feel that the value is beyond what I expected, the astro photography feature makes for some kick ass photos, and I had it on the rain once while trying to get a shoot and didn't have to worry about having it broken as the waterproofing is great, is a workhorse, if you are doing portrait, events, and landscape or studio work, is fast enough on the weather proof lenses, but not fast for sports which I don't shoot anyway.

It’s a very familiar camera layout with the added pixel shift and internal gps. My external gps worked well last year for astrophotography and I expect the same wonderful results this year. I haven’t had a chance to use the pixel shift, but I am looking forward to using it for landscapes.

Just like my old K-3 with more features

I still use my 2004 1st D but this camera is the upgrade I wanted. The menu system took about 1 week to get use to but now it is like tying your shoelaces, I can switch functions easily and quickly. As a long time film user I seldom take high speed burst, my "keeper" rate is near 25 percent, same as with film. I am very pleased with the K3-II.

My upgrade from 1st D

I have owned a Pentax K-5 in the past but moved back to Nikon (D7100) prior to this purchase. The K-3II is much better built than the Nikon (D7100-D7200) better weather sealing and more magnesium alloy where plastic is used on the Nikons. I also like the color rendition of the Pentax sensor over the Nikon or Canon. The Pentax may not focus as fast as Nikon or Canon but Pentax has them beat with burst rates, image IQ and build quality. Pair the Pentax K-3II with one of the all metal limited lenses as I did and you have a bullet proof field camera. I have owned semi-Pro cameras from the two big names and some Fuji and Olympus gear as well.....I give this guy 5 stars in comparison.

Better alternative to the BIG two

I'm a Pentax user for over 35 years.
I'm very happy with my upgrade from the K20D to the K-3 II. So many advancements in the past few years. HD video is a great convenience. My experience so far has been great. Absolutely no regrets. I look forward to learning more about this camera. Body + battery grip + AF-200FG Flash package was a great deal from Adorama.

Great camera. I have a K10 which was their flagship 10 Years ago. Pentax has made major improvement in the K3 mark 2. Focus speed is much better, color accuracy and contrast are great. 

Pentax K3 excellent camera

This is my third digital Pentax camera and every upgrade I that have done the cameras just gets better every time. I started with the K200D then to the K50. Both still excellent cameras. 
The K3-ii, is by far the most solid feeling DSLR I have ever picked up.. the build is quality is excellent, it is balanced and very comfortable to hold and the controls are accessible and easy to understand. I feel that as with any Pentax camera you get way more camera for the price..
With the K3-ii, like my previous Pentax DSLR's I am able to use all of my old manual k-mount lenses from the Pentax film camera I bought over 30 years ago...
The picture quality excellent, colors are very good. I really like the dual memory card slots. So far the lack of the pop up flash has not been a issue.
Well worth the money!

Great Camera!

I have been with Pentax from the *ist model . They have been behind in some cases like megapixels but way out in front in other ways weather proof and others. When I got back into photography I was reading a lot of English photo mags. Pentax was hot in those and got great reviews but in the states you really did not hear of them. So I went with my gut and picked up my first Pentax instead of the Nikon or Canon. Because of the thought that the English had place into their reviews.

I was going to wait for a K-3II replacement, and even thought of getting the K-1. I decided to give this one a try and I must say that I do not regret my decision.

Love it!!!

Upgrading from the K-r to the K-3ii shows how much DSLRs has evolved over the past few years. The K-3ii is a wonderful piece of engineering with endless customization options, yet can produce stellar images straight out of the box. The price is very reasonable and the bundled items and especially the body grip are a nice bonus. I added the pocket size Metz 26 af-2 flash, and a spare battery. This camera will keep me occupied for quite a few years before I consider the next one.

An awesome camera

I recently purchased the Pentax K3ii from Adorama. I'm a confirmed Pentax shooter and this model does not disappoint. I would rate it as far better a camera than any equivalent Nikon or Canon. In fact, if not for the crop sensor, this camera rates as well as a full frame by any other brand.

Pentax - Offers more bang for your buck!

getting the right camera for my daughter's Christmas gift was a piece of cake.  I found the best price at Adorama.  it shipped and arrived immediately and I knew when to expect it so it didnt get scooped off the porch by somebody else.  My daughter loves the camera and has learned to operate it very quickly.

I have k50, bought it at b&h.   Its 2 years old, have taken 4,000 pictures.  The warranty had expired, of course, and the camera no longer works -- "exposure block failure".   Check out the Pentax forum -- hundreds of people are complaining about the same set of symptoms.   This affects k30, k50, k500, S1 and S2 models -- as of now.   Pentax did not make a recall, so naturally, their authorized repair place, PrecisionCamera, is refusing to fix it free of charge -- and thats a whopping $166 repair for a body that was ($) new.

When the K-3 ii first became available, I could only afford its predecessor, the K-3. Now that I have BOTH cameras, my backup, or 2nd cam has an identical build as my primary, so it makes for seamless transitions between the two at events! Past experiences with Adorama made it my first choice when shopping for my new camera, and the free accessory bundle was a nice touch... the proverbial cherry on top! I am looking forward to taking advantage of astrotracer and pixel shift technology.

fulfilled highest expectations

I live on a sailboat and wanted a very solid camera to take sailing and hiking.  Since I tend to singlehand, and have grown very fond of bombing through ports taking pictures of the world, I also wanted a camera with good ergonomics that wouldn't distract from the goings on around me.  

The camera and some lenses arrived on a Boston fall day with heavy rains and cold winds.  And so I set off happily with camera and a WR lens (the 55mm f1.4), for a few nice hours of shooting.  Maybe it's just emotional, but the camera feels like you could take it out in a monsoon.

This is my first Pentax, and the brand certainly seems to have a steep learning curve.   So far, the image quality seems good, but not superlative.  We'll see what happens with a bit more familiarity, but right now my sense is more that, by virtue of liking how the camera feels/not worrying about damaging it, I take it more places and shoot more.  

The autofocus is definitely very poor in comparison with my Panasonic LX100.  But in contrast, I was always very careful with the LX100 when sailing, the dials are too small to manipulate wearing gloves, and in any case it now has visible dust on the sensor.  

I bought the camera with the Premium Pack, and thought that most of the accessories were too flimsy (the tripod in particular is too shaky, and a the spare battery arrived DOA --- Adorama did a great job of getting me a much better replacement within a few days).  My own preference would be for a more basic but very solid kit (the holster, a good quality spare battery, 64G card, and a cleaning kit) or a better quality expansive kit at a higher price point (including a tripod one would really use).

I love the K3 II I had both a K5 II and K5 IIS and the K3 focuses much better than either of them. I think the metering is better although that is good on both the K5 s. The resolution is amazing at 24 mp. It is better than the k5 s in every way so far.

I love the K3 II

I bought this camera as a very bulletproof camera to take sailing and hiking.  I often sail alone, so also wanted a non-distracting camera with very good ergonomics, and conversely didn't care so much about the niceties like touch screens, wifi, etc.  

The camera arrived on a nasty rainy day, and after partly charging the batteries I set off with a weather sealed lens mounted.  There's definitely a learning curve, but the camera handles very well with cold fingers, and feels very reassuring.

This is my first SLR, but the image quality seems pretty good so far.  My only criticism of the camera itself is the standard autofocus complaint.  The camera hunts like crazy even when starting with a near-focused lens.  Today I took the Pentax 10-17mm fisheye out for a walk, and at various points the focus whipped back and forth several times --- I ended up just putting the camera in manual focus and leaving it at infinity.

For convenience, I did buy the camera with the Adorama Premium Package, and that seems a bit of a waste.  The cleaning kit and memory card were useful, but the spare battery arrived DOA, and most of the other items were of pretty poor quality.

Bulletproof with Lousy Autofocus

I have always loved the in body image stabilizer.  So far it has worked with all my Pentax lenses I have tried it with.  The the camera flash was removed to make room for the GPS unit.  No problem, I have a smaller flash unit I can carry around if I do not want to use my larger flash unit.  Fill flash is sometimes needed on the fly and the little flash will make up for the one feature I did not like.  There is the K 3 if you really want that built in flash. I have not tried the GPS + Astrotracer feature.  I love the Interval shooting, used it  at 2000 shots and 2 seconds apart.  It even has a start interval time.  Mirror lock-up is available if time lapse gets jumpy.  I am using it with Pixel Shift off.  No problem, l love the clarity of my pictures.  I plan to use the movie feature at full HD this week.  So many features, so little time to use them all...2 slots for memory cards I could have used in years past.  Loving my camera.

Loving My Pentax K 3 II

My two comparison points are the K20d I owned until recently and the K3ii. First, the reasons I chose K3ii over K3 were the built-in GPS and some of the more advanced image modes (like Pixel shift). Also I read some reviews suggesting K3ii is more future-proof wrt its lens mount mechanism, compared to k3. Don't quote me on that. 

I've used the camera for a couple of weeks now, all comparisons are to K20D. Image quality - superb in both cases, but you have higher sensitivity on the K3ii side. That also leads to the Shutter/Apperture priority mode actually being useful now. On K20d the automatic sensitivity adjustment in that mode was very narrow, however now it goes I think 200-3200 (and is adjustable), which makes it usable in a wide range of conditions. 

Overall going from k20d menus to k3ii was easy.

Auto-focus (especially in low light) is much improved. It does not hunt, the way K20d used to do. 

Usability - some improvements in UI, breaking up all features in settings into pages, so you don't have to scroll continuously, but switch from page to page is much more convenient. Some buttons could use better placement (e.g. if you are fiddling with focus, the AF/MF button is on the front, while the buttons to adjust e.g. the auto-focus spot or size of area is all on the back). 

Be prepared to get a Pentax-native flash, since there is no built-in in K3ii, and if, like me, you are used to using master/slave flashes, you will need a separate master. 

All-in-all I'm very happy with it. Look forward to using it more and looking into some advanced features.

Nice evolutionary improvement over K20d

It is my first pentax camera and I am very pleased with it. I've had this camera for a while and shot in a variety of situations.
It feels very solid and comfortable in the hand, the 100% viewfinder is great and the controls are well placed. I mostly use it in M or Av. I've used this camera with both af and old manual lens, and the focus was accurate always (with a  manual focus lens it still confirms when the selected point comes into focus, as you adjust the ring). Image quality is excellent, you can find tests online but overall there was never a shot that I found lacking in terms of iq. I almost never use it for video, but I tend to prefer 720p@60fps over other modes. Exposure is reliable but I tend to compensate by -0.3 or so, I sometimes find the result too bright for my liking. Others have told me the final shot was too dark, so it is a matter of preference, the camera works as it should. Battery life is good, but not stellar - never was a problem. In terms of features: don't use pixel shift much because I rarely shoot still life, but it works fine; astro tracer is neat when needed; I really like that it has a flash pc sync port. Overall, highly recommended!

Very nice

I suppose I am a Pentax enthusiast, I bought by first Pentax back in the 80s with K1000, then ME Super, MX, LX, then the digital SLRs K110D, K01, K50, and now K3II. The film cameras were really astonishing. The K110D (6MP), is a nice solid camera and really good for that resolution, then my step up to 16MP with the K01 was rather a disappointment maybe because is a mirror-less SLR, the K50 is a DSLR with view finder otherwise identical to K01 but again the picture quality not really breathtaking  (rather average). So now I was thinking getting either the FF K1 or the K3II at the end I went for the K3II because I have many DA lenses optimised for APS-C size sensor. Now looking the K3II has a nice feel, handsome looking camera with  excellent built quality. The embedded GPS I like it, but not necessary for the photography (K3 does not have it). The pixel shift technique is a nice feature it really improves the reduction of pixelation (apparent resolution to almost 70MP) and gives a nice smooth appearance in magnified portions of a picture. However for the pixel-shift to work properly both the subject and the camera must be absolutely still, so for normal hand help photography in a moving environment does not really work (it is rather worst). I have the camera now for a week but I know very well how to calibrate it and setup for various conditions, my impression of the overall picture quality is not what I was expecting from a 24MP camera, because looking pictures taken with the K50 and the K3II with the same lens the difference is not noticeable. The pictures somewhat lack of clarity and the exposure is a bit inconsistent. The K50 (16MP) costs now around $250 and the K3II around $800, is the extra money for the K3II worth? Well if your budget is small get the K50 if don't care and you want to collect Pentax cameras get the K3II. In any case in general the digital DSLR Pentax are good but not astonishing as their older film SLR cameras.
