Philips Hue is the definition of "you get what you pay for."   While not especially inexpensive Philips Hue is extremely well made and exceeds expectations in all manner of execution.

Simply The Best

I'll start with the good. The lights themselves are well made, and the range of colors available from them are pretty impressive, ranging from warmer than the typical warm while bulb, to far cooler than a typical cool white. Or anywhere in between. The brightness is about what you would expect from a "60W equivalent" bulb and I rarely run them at full brightness in my bedroom. The hue app is reasonably good and it is easy to set up presets for quick access to your favorite settings. They also integrate well with Amazon Alexa.

Software updates can cause issues from time to time, the agile approach to software devlopement and release leave much to be desired.

From time to time Alexa will lose contact with the bridge. This usually just requires you to repeat the command, and 99% of the time it will work on the second try. I think this is just more evidence of poor quality control of the software. Speaking of the bridge, it is probably the most disappointing part of the kit. The bridge has no wi-fi capability, so plan on putting it right next to your router and wiring it in. This also severely limits your possible locations to put the bridge, and if you have a larger house it won't cover everything. This works out fine for me as most of the lights just happen to be near where I have my router, but keep this in mind.  First time setup can be tricky, did not work for me until I downloaded and update. The hub recognized bulbs in another room, but not the bulbs right next to the hub, strange, but the update fixed the issue.

It does what it says it does.  My husband set it up with the echo dot and it turns on and off by voice command.  Perfect.
